Is there a prob. with the BM network in Montreal or is it my phone?

Today was a pretty weird cellular day...

I took my phone off the cradle at 6:30am...brought it to my 2 hour class at school, then came home. Stuck it back on cradle. the whole time it was in my car or in my pocket.

1:30pm : took it with me to work. The minute i took it off the cradle i got the famous "searching for signal" message. I thought it would reacquire service in a fe wminutes. I got to work and it was still searching...then i shut it off, pulled the battery out, hard reset, backup, only plug without battery, you name it, i did it. It reacquires service..i get some txt messages...then there's a huge spike in reception (I.E : perfect reception in a 1-2 bar recpetion zone) then it searches for signal again...20 minutes later it reacquires it, i can make a call..then the reception spike happens again. Sometimes i can call whenever i get reception again, and i'l have reception of 1-2 bars..but I can't call out it stays on the "calling..." screen. From time to time it says with the warning sign "Service required. Contact provider" then I reboot and it searches and acquires signal

Etc..etc..etc...Whenever I'm on a call, it won't let go though. So now I'm not sure if it's the network (I've travelled about 20-30 km's today, so I should have hit a few different towers) Right now it's sitting in it's cradle and hasn't lost recpetion yet.

I tried going into the field debug mode, but I don't have the code for that. My programming code only works in the programming field

This is why i'm confused if it's the network or if it's my phone. It's so frustrating. If it's my phone, it'll take 6 weeks to come back...what are the odds I get a "nice loaner"? and what's the rental fee for one? (just in case it IS my phone)

Thanks

Sounds like it's your phone that's acting up. I haven't had the slighest problem with my reception today.

A rental phone costs $25. Unless you took the service plan ($69 which will cover your phone for three years, includes a free yearly cleaning and software update, as well as a rental phone for the duration of the repair. Just give me a call and I'll take care of everything )

Rental phone aren't the same at every store. For example where I work we give out either a motorola v120 or audiovox 9100. whereas if you go to lasalle, you'll get an lg tm250.

From my experience, it is rare that a phone will be in repair for 6 weeks. 2-4 weeks maximum.

I'm going from the caddilac of phones to the lada

I'm not sure why it would just start screwing around like that. Since my phone is screwed up, I'm wondering if I tinker with the firmware it might fix it (with the software to install new firmware, we can backup prl's and etc...)

Bah, probably won't risk it, seeing as they would be able to blame the fried phone on that

Doesn't mean it's a software problem either. If you were having problems with a 5135 I would encourage you to screw around with the settings, but when you screw up an $800 phone it's a little harder to swallow

Yeah exactly

I bought it at L'acadie Bell Mobility...so I'll probably just end up going back there. So odds are 2-4 weeks...not bad I guess

Any clues to what coulda gone wrong with the phone? Every other part of it works fine. Every now and then when it reacquires service, I even get voicemail alerts :\

It most definetly is a hardware problem, perhaps something got dislodged inside. Every time I send out a 5135 for reception problems I always take a look at the repairs report, granted I have absolutely no idea what all that jargon means but almost everytime there was some soldering work done to the phone.

You really should consider taking the service plan though. Which is actually $109 (for high end phones; 7135, a600....). You're already going to have to pay $25 for a loaner, might as well add another $84 to cover the phone for another two years. the repairs that are going to be done are only gonna be guaranteed for 3 months. if you plan on keeping your phone for another year at least, it's a good investment. also it generally boosts its value if ever you decide to resell it

Come by and see me, I'm right next door at Rockland Center.

Will the service warranty also cover any other phone I buy at BM (I.E the Audiovox 5050 at the end of Q1)?

Do I need to bring my receipt to the store or will they know it's less than a year old (I mean..the 7135 was only offered from April on...)

I didn't know there was a BM in rockland! Where's it at?

Edit : And resell it I will! I'm getting fedup with the unstable software and constant tweaking needed to be done on it

The service plan is offered for any phone. It only applies to one phone though. It's $69 for the basic models and $109 for high end models.

It's recommended that you bring you receipt. The repair form has to have a copy of the receipt. If you can't find it, it can usually be printed out again though.

At Rockland, the store is at the complete end of the mall...next to the sports expert..
