Seems like the first link that you posted wasn't for the NED 515, but for the NEC "N21i"...It was pretty obvious because the 515 doesn't have an external antenna like the N21i...also it's shape and size are completely different...just wait until the 4th QTR and NEC will probably provide us with more information on the 515...until next time...Mahalos in advance!!

I wrote to NEC regarding their NEC 515 model the other day. They told me that the phone will be released first in the UK market in the 4th quarter of 2002. So I asked them if I could prototype the phone for the US market, but I have not received a response yet. I guess I'll have to import the phone through the numreous channels available to me here in LA in order to grab the phone as soon as it comes out.

The NEC 515 Quadband looks really cool. I hope AT&T Wireless in the U.S. will carry it.

Any rumors on price yet?

Posted by: plasticparadox

That looks alot like the Sanyo SCP-5000.

Posted by: jacobrich

No rumors on price yet. I agree that it looks like the SCP-5000. However, this phone has an internal antenna

it's close to the 5000 but the flip looks way cooler on this phone !

Posted by: AdmiralAK

Hmmm....to buy this....or the p800....hhhmmmmm...or both?!

Posted by: BB88

buy the Asus ones as well

Posted by: plasticparadox

Yeah, I saw the Asus one.. I don't know if I would put down money for the phone until I know that they are reliable, well made, and easy to use.

i guess this NEC will be my next phone, but damn i dont think it uses a TFT LCD , i think its an STN , and as i always say if u saw the difference in your own eyes , u will never consider STN

Posted by: jacobrich

The Japanese FOMA NEC phone uses an OLED screen. I wish they would use the same technology on this GSM phone. I'm sure that in the future color screens will be OLED, but I want it now!

Posted by: justlovejo

thats even better , but i guess it still need years to be used outside japan

Posted by: jacobrich

If they could integrate an OLED screen, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and location services, along with all of the other goodies this phone has (minus the infrared, if they include Bluetooth). It could be one of the best phones ever made. Maybe they'll do it on the next release.

*sigh*

It does not look like the SCP-5000

You guys are uninitiated in the ways of japanese style folder phones

Contrary to popular belief, there are quite a few different styles of folder phones.

That's because you guys are GSM users who have never seen a PDC phone . Time to wake up and find out that a Nokia GSM phone is not the greatest thing in the world

http://k-tai.impress.co.jp/cda/arti...case_backnumber

Go there and learn that you guys need to know the differences. Maybe learn some japanese along the way.

Umm...those are pretty much normal phones that are carried by the carriers there.

u can get those 3G phones in Japan for about 200 USD each..
house phone line is way....expensive than cell phone in Japan

everybody have one of those 3G in Japan
cuz it's so cheap.......the company lowered the price and want more ppl to sign out their service.........

it's like Sony lower Ps2 price and earn money in software.

Those are not necessarily 3G phones. DoCoMo is a PDC phone system which is just a form Of IS-136 (TDMA like AT&T Wireless) with a 14.4kbps data packet layer on top, same with J-Phone w/ their JSky data packet network. ONLY FOMA is 3G W-CDMA. AU by KDDI's 144k packetOne network Is also 3G (CDMA2k 1xrtt), with a upcoming EV-DO network. For each of them, you need respective 3G capable phones. Alot of them are NOT 3G phones. The Appli 504 series phones made by SEMC, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Panasonic are NOT 3G phones.

Companies subsidise phones and the prices range from 50-500 depending on what you want (DoCoMo Appli 504 series phones run approx 300), a decent J-Phone or AU by KDDI CDMA phone runs between 50-200 at places like yodabashi or Sakura in Shinjuku.

Installation is usually 9900 yen/line and approx 4000 yen/line + usage costs. Most households get 1 home line since it's still much cheaper for usage than a cell phone.

Most people get cell phones because they're always out of their house. I was always out of my room....everyone always called me on my celly.

oh my god you've got to be freakin kidding me. that's it i'm moving to japan just for those phones....

Posted by: HoLlanD dOg

Does anyone know that if the NEC 515 is the similar size to the DB7000?
If yes, it's pretty big....considering that the DB7000 is abit larger than a Nokia 8250 even it's CLOSED.

Size does matter!

Posted by: c/m

NEC 515 will be BIG...............

i don't know how big
but all i know is that
it is BIG..........

Posted by: HoLlanD dOg

My interest to the NEC 515 dropped by half....
