Near the bottom of the page in this Chinese link above (6th last paragraph) are some information about the controversial NEC phone. (Yes, the controversial AT&TW one)

After giving it a try (the *#7320# code), the following comes up on my screen:

Network lock
<310><380>
<310><980>

Anyone knows what this means or does any of you have the same numbers displayed? Or do you know whether this info is useful for YOUKNOWWHAT? *wink* *wink*

I'd be really interested to see replies and discussions relating successful attempts (if you managed to get the 8 digits) and sharings~

My Nec 515 shows the exact same thing.

Apparently, I later found out that <310> is the country code for US, and the code next to 310 is the network operator code. This coincides with the fact that 31038 IS AT&TW's published network code.

It also seems that the 8 digits is a universal code that will work on ANY NEC 5 series. That's why our kind network provider simply refuses to show that she knows, or is capable of, how to remove the restriction.

Does this info help anyone who's trying (and still trying) to get this lock deciphered?

For the dummies, the sequence to "do it" is this:

#7320*[8 digit universal code]#

for the NEC db2000 series, the 8 digits code is 82764016
and for the NEC 900 series, it's 19980722

so... know what I mean?

WOW!)
Are we that close to unlocking?
What would be the right 8 digit code for 5 series (515 & 525)?

Posted by: kwaalude

im surprised no one knows any techs that work at ATT that would be willing to divulge this information... of the couple groups that i have conversed with, both say that the phone must be sent to them for unlocking... to my (no to techincal mind) that seems ridiculous and that there should be some way to unlock this thing remotely...

From what I have gathered, whether it's a network lock unique to AT&TW or not, it's still a 8 digit universal code.

But what must be distinguished is that, this universal code will be different from the universal code used to lock the phones in say, Asia. Since N8 /N800 (Asia) and 525 (USA) and n341i (EU) are basically same in software, with differences being iMode/mMode support, quad/dual band etc, this #7230* sequence will work on any of them.

It will have to take someone smart enough to come up with a program that can decipher the algorithms of this 8 digit code like what u guys see in movies for deciphering ATM card codes... hahaha.

Though the question still remains, whether the unlock method some of u guys found in LA or Canada was code based (they got the unlock 8 digit code), or hardware based (they opened up your phone and reset the mainboard).

Where in L.A. are we talking about?

Posted by: AndrewLau

Still no one knows for sure whether it's code-based...

Do a Google search for "NECTalk." It will unlock NEC phones. Read the short text file include in the zip file. Once the phone is unlocked, the #7320* does not do anything. You have to have the USB cable with NECTalk software.

I had my phone unlocked that way with an NECtalk program...It was off the ATTw Forums acutally...unlocking phones is all over their forums, unless they ACTUALLY started to moderate it.

..and sorry, i can'ts end you the file because i reformatted my computer. If I find it again, i'll be sure to PM you!

can anyone pls tell what is the universal code for nec 525??

Everything that I have found about unlocking the 515/525 phones indicates that there IS NO UNIVERSAL CODE. The only way to do this is to buy a data cable for the phone (available on e-bay with holder, data cable, car charger, & cd for $4.99USD + shipping) and find the program NECTalk.
"Install USB drivers
Connect USB cable >>> NOT ON A HUB, but directly to PC.
Connect phone to cable (phone is turned on)
Phone will be detected by your PC. Go to Control pannel, and under phone and modem, you should see your phone, make a note of the com port your PC assigned to the phone.

Now go to a dos prompt (Start > run > command for win98 or start>run>cmd for win2k and winXP)
In Dos mode, Navigate to the folder where you copied Nectalk .
Run nectalk with the appropriate flags.
After nectalk has ran (2 to 3 secondes) the phone will be unlocked and the phone will shut down." - quoted from http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/sho...3&highlight=515

again, there is NO univeral code. Don't be a sucker and pay $30+ to have it done, pay the $10 total and get a carcharger and holder and other stuff and DO IT YOURSELF.

i just got nectalk and used the DOS prompt to do a "nectalk -pt unlock" and it worked just fine. I wanted to bring the phone in to work (cing) and get a few chuckles out of it for those of you wondering why anyone would still want to do this.

if any of you for some reason still would want to do this, PM me and i can help you out

I still have my unlocked N525 that I'm using as a backup with a Cingular SIM and it's working just as well as when I got it brand new from AT&T back in 2003/2004.
