Blade startup sound question

Hi everyone. I've got another question for you knowledgable people. My Blade plays a sound at startup, and I can't find a menu option to shut that off. Tried the board search and didn't find anything on that topic. Does someone know how to shut the startup sound off (without putting the whole phone in silenced mode)?

Thanks,
Martin

I discovered it is a midi file loaded into the phone named "startup_generic" or something like that I believe. I tried to delete it but the phone won't allow me to, as well as overwrite it using the data cable and bitpim. If i find a way to get rid of it, I will let you know.

Thanks. I'm interested in knowing more if you discover something. However, I don't have a data cable, so I won't be able to change a thing. I was hoping that there was some "secret" menu option or button combination.

Well you could just keep pushing the "end" button on startup but that isn't really a solution but it does cut out the sound.

They really should have given people the choice of turning it off. I see so many phones where they make sounds on startup and you can't turn it off. It's embarrasing when you're in a quiet environment and want to turn it on only to have the music tunes come on.

Thankfully my Audiovox-8300 has an option but not on the blade.

Hum, tried keeping the "end" putton pressed when starting the phone and it immediately shuts off
Bah, I'll live with it. Thanks anyway.

Hehe, well actually you don't hold it down, if you want just keep repeatedly pushing it.

If you want to get the timing, hit the end button the sec you see the Telus/Blade Logo or just keep hitting end as soon as you see the "no service" icon at the top, i think most of the time though you'll get that key press sound so i guess it's not perfect? but at least we don't get the music!

Why are you guys talking about pressing END repeatedly?

As soon as you hear the startup sound playing, just hit END once quickly, and it stops.

Wirelessly posted (Killed By Death: QC07 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/4.3.4.4d)

What else does the end button do ?

If you have you phone set to silent mode before you turn it off, the next time you turn it on, it'll be silent and it won't play any music. No need to press End!

It might be a little late to post this now, but there IS a way to get rid of the startup sound.
I just discovered this a few moments ago.

It is VERY complicated and QUITE risky.
It requires the data cable, special programming software capable of downloading the flash memory into a file on the computer, hex editor, blank midi file or midi file creator software, bitpim, and a good overall understanding of how it all works.

You basically...

Create a midi with no sound in it using a midi sound file creator, and upload it to the same directory as the startup sound using bitpim.

Connect the phone using the data cable, use the programming software to download the flash to a file, edit the flash download in a hex editor, and change it to point to the new blank startup sound, then reflash the phone with the file you just edited.

One mistake during the flash download/upload or editing and your phone is basically fried.

But if you do it right.... VOILA! No startup sound, just like mine.

Just thought I'd share with you all that it IS possible.

Thanks for the info Andrew. However, I don't have all these tools and I don't want to screw up my phone.

Thanks anyway!
