Is it possible to get free internet on the 8900 by changing the proxy's etc?
I cant seem to find where these settings are...
sorry if this has been discussed.. I did do a search with no luck in finding anything

Follow this thread

Not sure what is happening with the search, it's not working very well these days. Use google to search, it's much better. This for example.

well I just got my phone working on free wap setting. Here is every thing that I have found so far on these boards:

A good home page by yahoo:
http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/

Menu to get into your web setting:
##2769737 [end]

WAP Settings(pick one of the 3, I chose UP link1):
User ID: Blank
Password: Blank
WAP IP1: 204.163.167.193
WAP Port 1: 9201
WAP IP2: 204.163.167.193
Port 2: 9201
(it will always take you to the openwave home page. But from what I have see so far its not doing it for me)

And this a thread I read about WAP:

Hey guys...

I'm totally LOST!

Can someone assist me on how to enter this info:
Menu to get into your web setting:
##2769737 [end]

WAP Settings(pick one of the 3, I chose UP link1):
User ID: Blank
Password: Blank
WAP IP1: 204.163.167.193
WAP Port 1: 9201
WAP IP2: 204.163.167.193
Port 2: 9201

I'm going into MENU, then 5 (Mobile Web), then 1 (connect web)... then it tries to send, then I scroll up once to the "openwave" icon, press ok, then I get a menu, then I scroll down to 9 (settings), press ok... then I see 2 Proxy, and then from there I see WAP Proxy 1, WAP Proxy 2, and WAP Proxy 3.

Am I in the right place?!?!? If not, where do I go and if so, what do I do?

No, your not in the right place. Enter ##2769737, end. You will then get internet options: 1) UP Proxy IP, 2) Web Idle time
You want to choose option 1, then any of the three UP LInk's. Then choose AP1-IP. Enter 204.163.167.193 ( In order to get the "dot" in there you have to hit [send]) for the new IP. Hit ok, then go to AP1-Port. Enter 9201 for the port hit ok.
You will then need to set up your homepage to either yahoo or google's WAP server.
>Menu 5, 1, then go up to the openwave icon. 9, 1. then enter one of the following:

http://www.google.com/wml
http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/

WOW! That is REALLY interesting.

At first, that totally didn't make sense...
entering in ##2769737 [and then end].

That sounded to weird to do. So, I didn't even think to
just enter ## and then a bunch of digits and then end.

Hmmmm....

But... all I'm getting now is SENDING.............

I'll get back wid ya!
Thanks for your help

Keith

After much research...
it appears that the network is down for the wireless web right now.

I tried the FREE WAP, but I kept getting "SENDING.............".
I tried changing the homepage... and I could, but after I tried connecting to either yahoo or google, and I got that "SENDING..........." message, I ended up disconnecting and then later tried it again, but it keeps defaulting to OPENWAVE.com!

So, I went ahead and signed up for the $4.99 a month wireless web, just to try it out and having trying to log in, it tells me to contact my service provider, and I called Verizon and they told me that the NETWORK for the web is down.

So, anyways... I'm going to pay for 1 month's service just to see if I like it.

Question: Will I personally notice any difference between the FREE WAP and the paid web service????

Also, does anyone know how to get rid of that dang default OPENWAVE.COM!

Believe me, I have been reading the Howard Boards, and I'm still unsure about some of these questions.

Later...
Keith

Keith,

The reason it keeps defaulting is because your phone has not successfully connected to the internet. It will continue to default until you have connected successfully. So, which wap server did you set your homepage to? i used google and I know that it worked today ! Get back to me when you can!

Perhaps another day will prove better.

Have any of you changed web idle time after pressing ##2769737? Try setting web idle time to 60 seconds.

My settings under UP Proxy IP:
select UP Link 1
select AP1-IP
enter 207.232.99.109
hit ok
select AP1-Port
enter 9201
hit ok

Then exit to home screen (background)
hit menu 5, 1
click on openwave icon
hit 9 (settings), 4 (circiut linger)
enter 60 seconds for that also
hit ok
option 1(homepage)
make sure that when you enter url that http:// is in front of it or it will not work.
Mine is as follows: http://www.google.com/wml
when it is sending let it go until it connects
if it does not connec then it will reset your homepage settings until there is a successful connection.

VTS:

as far as "security keu not recognized", you do not have your ip addresses and port settings correct. Make sure they are like above and re-enter your homepage and try again.
Good luck to all !

still working for me

OK. I put in all the settings for waptunnel. Tried to change the homepage, but when it sends it comes back with 'Server not responding', and the homepage reverts back to openwave.

1. Do I have to update the homepage before waptunnel will work? Or can I start with the openwave homepage, connect to waptunnel sucessfully, and then go change it to yahoo or google.

2. The Server not responding message. Is waptunnel just down? Any ideas?

3. The Waptunnel website says I can use port 9200 or 9201. I'm using 9201. It also mentions that 1200 and 1201 are available. Should I try one of the others?

Thanks!

I can't get Waptunnel nor Ericsson Developers Gateway to work. I had waptunnel working a few days ago, but not anymore. I think Verizon may be having problems. Is free WAP even allowed by Verizon?

Posted by: Ceoltori

I tried again tonight, and it's working beautifully. Speed is far better than normal for WapTunnel. I guess WapTunnel was just down during last week.

With VZW you can use free mobile web if you can find a working free gateway, but you will use air time unless you use it during nights/weekends when it is air time free if you have free nights/weekends on your VZW account.

If you read the forum, you will see that Wap Tunnel goes up and down from time to time. I think it was down for a week or more in the middle to end of last month. There are many free gateways listed in the forum. Just a hassle to keep checking to see which one is currently working.

I know this thread is old but i have a quick question. Do you have to repeat this process anytime you want to use this?

On my 8900 the settings persist even after turning phone off and back on.

I just go to the browser anytime and it uses the gateway ip I assigned.
