SCP-5000 LCD Contrast

What i've noticed is that the LCD is not as bright as expected is due to the fact that the screen itself is not a pure-backlit lcd screen. In fact, i've noticed that it uses a transflective screen, similar to the screen one finds on a gameboy color/gameboy advance. These screens do not require a backlight to view, and thus works very well under the sun (unlike for example casio's e125 which makes the screen almost invisible under the sun. You can tell right away if you turn off the backlight on the scp-5000 and try to view the screen indoors under normal lighting conditions.

Is there any improvement on the LCD display if the contrast was to be adjusted? That is, if it was possible? I wasn't able to find a menu for adjusting the display with the very short time I had to play around with it at the dealer. The contrast feature in other handsets, minus the colour display, shows any relevency as it does not seem to change anything.

no there is nothing you can do w/ the contrast, it doesnt really help w/the brightness, wished it had a brightness control, but with the battery life so short already, w/ increased brightness will just suck the life out of the battery , too bad w/ the heavy price tag $500, they cannot design better LCD contrast/brightness

I usually leave the backlight off during the day.. This increases the battery life immensely. The display is more than adequate under room lighting and the sub-lcd is perfect for identifying calls anywhere(it is backlit).. The main lcd backlight, unfortunately does consume substantial battery power.. there really isn't you can do about it.. even the best colour pocket pcs last only a couple of hours.

What i don't like is the external battery... the size of it make the entire phone look like a brick. I was surprised that such a phone still uses lithium ion batteries. For such a small phone w/ a colour screen, I was sure that they would have decided to use lithium polymer technology. Just look at the compaq i-paq H3670 pocket pc, using a lithium polymer battery, the entire device is still thinner than the phone, with enough power to run the device (play mp3, videos) for a couple hours.

The phone was definitely rushed, and furthermore, I am dissapointed that I don't have some form of colour browser! Too bad, my dreams of i-mode are gone... =<

I guess I'm rambling now, so I better stop typing.. anyhow.. It ranks high on the cool factor alone.. and makes a lot of people envious.. so that's better than nothing right? =P
