Yesterday I gave my 8380 to a Roger's technician because I couldn't get it to connect to the internet either. I'll call him tomorrow and report back

Just got my phone back and here is the problem. The web browser on the 8380 is version 2.0 while Roger's is only set up for the older 1.1 version. Fido can handle our version but I prefer to stick with Roger's if possible. I was wondering if it would be possible to delete our version and download the older version?

I want to clarify- the difference is WAP1.1 vs WAP2.0

The MIO 8380 is WAP 1.2.1 (same as HTC Tanager & MPX200).

The MIO 8390 and HTC Voyager (+all other newly released phones) are WAP 2.0

Lots of people seem to have had problems with the Rogers WAP but it should be this

Create proxy connection
Description: Rogers proxy
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP network
Proxy (nameort): 208.200.067.150:9201
(or try 208.200.067.151:9201 and 172.025.000.107:9203)
Type: WAP
Username: blank
Password: blank

Create GPRS connection
Description: Rogers WAP
Connects to: The Internet
Access Point: goam.com
User: wapuser1
Password : wap
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
IP Address:

In data connections
WAP connection: Rogers WAP

In Internet Explorer - Menu-Option, Connections, Untick 'Automatically detect settings' and make 'Select Network: WAP network'

Attempt to connect to www.google.com/wml

A lot of networks are now using proxy port 8080 to accomodate WAP 2.0 phones but I suspect Rogers don't have this yet.

I know one person who sorted out their problem by subscribing to the Rogers Internet service (APN internet.com) which will give you unrestricted access to the WEB. Obviously costs more though

Thanks for all this. However I'm still not connected so I have a couple of questions. First I notice that after entering wap as the password 16 *s show up. Is this just a security thing. Second I see that you have no entries in primary or secondary DNS or IP address. Do I place the values that Rogers gave me or leave blank

Yep the password is replaced by *s - this is normal.

The DNS addresses are associated with the Internet service and are usually set as default at the network (DNS's addresses in the phones GPRS connection are most often ignored).

What error are you getting when connecting ?

Maybe you are subscribed to the internet service.
Try the following and see if it works

Start-Settings-Data Connections
Menu-Edit Connections

Create GPRS connection.
Description: Rogers NET
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: internet.com
User name: wapuser1
Password: wap
Primary DNS: 207.181.101.4
Secondary DNS: 207.181.101.5
IP address: (blank)

In data connections
Internet Connection: Rogers NET

In Internet Explorer,Menu-Options-Connections, Tick 'Auto Detect Settings'

Try and connect to http://www.google.com/
