***VX4500 Data Cable Clarification***

Ok, for everyone here having trouble connecting to their VX4500, i have figured out what exactly is going on. Alot of people may already have the VX6000 data cable. This cable will NOT work with the VX4500 (unless its the future dial cable.) The reason for this is simple, the VX4500 ONLY supports serial connections. Well, people may ask, "Then why is my VX4500 cable USB and works just fine?" The answer to that is simple, if you have purchased the VX4500 USB cable from VZW then the cable itself has a "Prolific" USB to Serial converter built in. So the phone is actually regonized by your computer as a "Serial" connection. For those of you using a VX6000 data cable that works on the VX4500 it MUST be the cable from Future Dial ww.futuredial.com) as this cable was ORIGNALY designed for the LG 1200 which only complies with a serial connection as well and has a chip similar to the "Profilic" chip found in the OEM VX4500 data cable.
Well, after discovering all this, i myself had an OEM VX6000 purchased from VZW for $69.99 that was designed for the VX6000 only. Turns out that this cable fits into the VX4500, but it will NOT work!!! So, after a little research I discovered that VZW is now selling a data cable for the VX4500 as you all know for only $39.99. Well, i was a little shocked when i realized the price difference so i went to my local Verizon store and returned the OEM VX6000 cable and purchased the OEM VX4500 cable. I managed to get the new cable and still get refunded around $30 or so. The OEM VX4500 cable WILL work with the VX6000 (as the VX6000 supports both USB and Serial connections.) If you decide to return your VX6000 cable and get the VX4500 cable, you will not only save money, but you will be getting a cable which has MORE functionality.
So for everyone out there trying to get their VX4500 working with their VX6000 cable, it will NOT work unless you have the LG 1200 data cable from Future Dial (not yet verified, but it seems to be the only logical solution.)
If you have a LG 1200 cable from Future Dial, pelase verify that this cable will work on VX4500 as it has already been verified that it works on the VX6000.
The OEM VX4500 cable works great with BitPim on both the VX4500 and VX6000. The software distributed with cable works great with both phone models as well.
Bellow is a list of current cables and whether or not they work with the VX4500 and VX6000.

Manufacturer--Type--Cable----Works on VX4500?--Works on VX6000?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
LG...................USB...VX6000...NO............ ............YES
LG...................USB...VX4500...YES........... ............YES
RPI..................USB...VX6000...NO............ ............YES
RPI..................USB...VX4500...YES........... ............?
FutureDial.........USB...LG1200...YES............. ............YES

The above table is based on knowledge gathered from various forums, I myself have NOT verified the functionality of each cable. If there are other cables that are not listed or the information provided is incorrect, feel free to update the current list and make any changes you see fit.
I hope this helps everyone having trouble with their data cable, I just saved $30 and I now have a cable which works on both the VX4500 and VX6000 =).

Cheers,
-Randy

good post, sounds like you are right.

i also have the rpi vx6000 cable and it looks like i will have to buy another cable for the vx4500.

one other thing, i think we are still waiting on confirmation that the rpi 4500 cable actually works...

Well, we better hope the RPI VX4500 works on the VX4500, otherwise RPI wouldn't be in business very long =/

Thanks a lot for putting that together.

Do you happen to know anything about the RadioShack cables? I believe one of the cables (the one with the serial conversion) worked on the 4400B. The appeal of these cables is that I think they run in the $20-$25 range.

hmm... does this mean there will be no "charging" data cable for the 4500? since it's rs232?

The VX4400[B] cable will not work. The phone connector is different.

If I get one of the RadioShack cables, do I have to buy any software for drivers or anything else, or can I just plug and play?

I found a link to a few users complaining about RPI, where Robert from RPI replied, apologized and offered a $10 discount code that still works. Full contact information of Robert as well as other email addresses are given by him in the thread. I suggest you use it before the discount is adios.

So has anyone been successful with purchasing a working cable for the vx 4500. The first post states that the cable from radio shack for the vx1200 will work, but he never stated if the vx6000 cable from radio shack (future dial) Will work.

Has anyone purchased the vx4500 cable on line and got it to work?

and has anyone purchased the vx6000 future dial cable from radio shack and got it to work also?

Let me know,
peace.
