GX20 Datacable - not conneting to pc!

Please please help!!
I have just purchaced a usb to serial datacable for my gx20.
I have downloaded all the newest drivers and the handset manager is the latest version i can find, i have enable the pc link on my ...but....when i connect to my pc the handset manager is still trying to locate a connection to my phone!! any more idea's????

im having similar problems using IR (ma-620) it searches and then says its blocked or out of range when its obviously close! any help would be great, thanks
