I use BitPim 0.7-test4
1 Save db/default_ani_incom.txt to PC
2 Delete db/default_ani_off.txt on phone
3 on PC rename default_ani_incom.txt -> default_ani_off.txt
4 on phone in db "New File" default_ani_off.txt
5 phone off/on
6 Setting->Display->Power off->Select

Couldn't you just have changed the gif to one of your choice instead of using the cable?

Verizon won't let you set it to pictures you have taken or pictures you download give it a try. You might be able to if you have Telus, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the info bobah, I'm going to try this out.

I was able to change both my start up and my shut down screens by emailing myself an animated gif. It saved them in the animations folder. When i went into the menu they were there as an option and they worked perfect.

Verizon 8900

I have also changed my startup and shutdown to animated gif.

Does this db method mentioned above give us anything extra?

thanks

Bobah, get ALL.TXT from this page for a tiny bit more choices.

I tried e-mailing an animated GIF, but it saves it in the "Images" folder instead of the "Animation" folder. Is there something else that needs to be done?

I also tried to use a standard animated gif, downloaded into the phone from vzwpix.com. Have successfully gotten LOTS of ringtones in the phone, but can't seem to get an animated gif to work. Where would I get a gif to try? WHat format?

I've tried to email myself this .GIF file, and it doesn't display the right colors...

It shows the WHITE as some reddish-brown color...

When I open it in ImageReady, it shows up fine.

Why is it not showing the right colors on my phone?

thx.

how many fps is that gif? Does it animate right despite the color issues?

Posted by: thePhallex

ok, so I made a new animation.

I made this one in ImageReady.

It displays the right colors, except, when I emailed it to myphone@vzwpix.com, it made the white border around the image.

Also, it looks like it will only play the first 3 or 4 frames (of this 14-frame animation), and then start over again, repeating just those first few frames.

Someone who has gotten this to work: ... what are the properties of your animations??

I can't even get the phone to play it. "Failed to play pix message".

If you go to www.animationfactory.com you can pick from a number of free animated 3-d gifs. Each gif has several choices. Select the standard size with the white background, save it to your PC, then e-mail it to yourself as an attached photo. Once received, say 'Save Media' which will put it in the animations folder. You can then select it as the Power On or Power Off animation.

Still can't get rid of the annoying music, though.
