Hi. I have tried to connect my GD87 to my PC with a serial data cable. When I run the Edit Tool software I get the error "Invalid port number" and in the settings under serial port, the drop-down list is empty. I have tried entering differerent port numbers, but that didn't work. I have also tried to run CB2000 and I get the Error "Could not open COM 1". Iv'e checked in the device manager on my PC under Ports, but the only port listed there is the printer port. Can anybody help please?

im facing the same problem

Iv'e just sorted my problem out, hope it works for you. I realised that the com ports were disabled in the BIOS. Go into your BIOS, then into intergrated peripherals, then into onboard super IO function, then set your serial port to Auto. Obviously all BIOS settings are different, but it should be simillar.

WHAT IS bios???

Posted by: deckard44

Ah.......The bios is the program that controls the motherboard of your computer. When your computer starts up ther will be a message "saying press delete to enter set up" , but it might say something other than delete as all mother boards are different. It might be "enter" or "F1" or something. Look in your mother board manual for serial ports if you cant do it the way I described in the other post. If you know somebody that knows a bit about computers, it might be worth getting them to enable serial ports in the bios. It is pretty straight forward.

god!!!!!

dun think i would be able to do that

Its not that hard. Follow these instructions - Press delete or whatever to enter bios when your pc boots up (before windows loads), u should be able to read on the screen what key it is.
When you are in the bios go into intergrated peripherals, then into onboard super IO function, then set your serial port to Auto. Obviously all BIOS settings are different, but it should be simillar.
You should be able to follow those instructions?

ok done that
so now... do i still have to change the port at device manager?
currently Prolific-USB-to-Serial Comm Port(COM5)

and then which prog should i use? edit tool or CB2000?
and whats the use of crack2d and when to use it and how?

You shouldnt have to do anything in device manager now.I used edit tool, and it recognised the phone straight away after I had enabled the serial port. I dont know what the other programs do. I just want to up-load ring tones and pictures which is what edit tool does

still cant

What about a USB cable?

Posted by: Michi

wat do u mean usb cable?

Prolific-USB-to-Serial?

Posted by: mavericke

First of all, I believe you have to match the com port of your cable to the computer. Secondly I believe you should use a usb cable to do the job.

USB (Universal Serial Bus)

BIOS (Basic Input Ourput System)

how to match the com port of the cable to the computer??
