Updating Siemens Firmware

Does updating the Siemens Firmware (with the software provided at the official site) affect my phone in anyway? (besides updating firmware)

Like, will all my files and/or settings be deleted?

I'm using an m55, do you recommend I update it?

Everything stays the same. Apparently your games will load faster with new firmware. I don't play games, so I don't know I've updated mine, no problems.

how about the S55 ?
has does it effect that model ?

OraceO: I'm guessing it's the same situation! :-)

What about languages? If I choose GREEK, for example, will my cell phone now have the Greek character set?

Yup, the new firmware includes the new character sets. Mine has Arabic now, for example. One little quirk though, the upgrade changes the "Call Log" to "Records" and the "Organizer" becomes "Organiser"... I think there's other changes in the main menu, but I didn't pay close enough attention to the names before I upgraded to notice.

That is because when you choose different language pack, it comes with british english not US english.

It probably says Divert instead of Forward too.

I know. It wasn't a complaint, just an observation. Like Bravoxena I prefer the UK spelling anyway. And it does say divert!!

If you can read chinese, you can get a USB one for paying around CAN$16 from HK. http://www.sohoworkers.net/siemens.htm

Does the firmware upgrade improve the speed of the menus? I have noticed my S56 is pretty slow in scrolling through my address book. I would consider the upgrade if I knew it helped with that. I am also in a decent position to test any change in reception. I am on T-Moblile (so it would be 1900 only) and in my home I get only 2-3 bars. I don't really have problems with breakups or dropped calls, so it would be a pure meter test.

Also, how risky is the upgrade? I would like to do it to remove the AT&T specific software in my phone (it's unlocked from them), but don't want to risk losing it (as it works just fine).

P.S. You guys with the M55. My cousin got one the other day, and that is a sweet phone (esp the grey version). If only it had bluetooth. Great RF on that one too.
