Louder 8600 Speaker Phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm not brave enough to open my 8600 to try this but has anyone tried to remove the cover on the ear speaker that is covered on the 8600? To be more exact look at the 8600's ear speaker (which is the same speaker used for speaker phone) thier is three openings for the speaker. You will notice one of them is coverd. I would think if the one coverd is removed the speaker would be louder.

I would like to know how to remove the cover also and maby drill some holes in the outside so you could hear the ringer.

It must have taken an engineering genius to design something like that..

LOL @ drilling holes in the out side. Have you tried contacting Verizon & AudioVox to voice your concerns?
I have tried this way, TWO forms Verizon reps can fill out that Verizon has is to get things fixed
1) "Verizon voice of the customer"
2) "Trouble Ticket"
and it does not seem to get much action...yet.....but I am getting credit to my account for Verizion not fixing it.

Check a post I started called "Want Verizon to fix it?" for more details on the forms.

Also have called Audiovox and complained and they do seem they will look in to fixing problems.

The mention of the holes in the outside of the phone came from my experience with the cdm8900 I had, but could never connect to the web browser, but thats another story. It had three slotted holes in the outer cover that the sound came out of when the phone closed.

I just tried to get the cover off and gave up. After removing the two screws under the rubber pads near the ear speaker the cover is still snaped on some how. I'm sure thier must be a trick to get it off....I can't figure it out with out all most breaking it or showing/leaveing evidance that I pryed the cover off. If anyone knows how to get this cover off please post how. I think my theary will work to make the hands free and ringer speaker louder if I remove that one slot that is coverd.

I just noticed on one of the other posts about the new covers for the 8900 (which I hope they have avalible for the 8600 before too long) that there are four screws in it that hold the cover on on it, so mabe the 8600 is the same.

Anxious to hear how it works out.

There is 2 more screws holding the cover on. One each towards the bottom of the flip under the little circles. Those circles are just plastic covers that are glued in place. doesnt take to much to get those off.
