Vodafone Suck..!! 10 reasons (your opinion)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: oranabana

They must be the very worst of the lot - was on contract with them for the 1 year. Why do they suck?

1. asked specifically to opt out of marketing. Yet I got about 20 postal mailings, three e-mails and numerous txt's over the 12 month period. Neither complaints nor visits to the local shop changed any of this!

2. Their online billing shows a different billing table as the customer support team has available to them. Hence its impossible to get a straight comparison from them.

3. Their online billing is flakey to say the very least. Thought it was a browser issue, but turned out to be across the board of OS's and broweser. Login sometimes, sometimes not, sometimes error, sometimes not; always a gamble...

4. They have about 5 different departments, all non-interconnected. So if you speak to Vodafone Connect, and they tell you to call Vodafone Network instead , you need to call again, have yor call routed again, hold again, repaet your details again.... Why Can they not just have one place to sort things out?!?!

5. Opted for online billing (to safe trees...) and never got a single paper bill (just loads of junkmail (see 1.). Yet itemised billing disappears from any bill older than 4 months...whats with that?!

6. Their customer service is one of the worst. Kept in lopps of automated call centres for ages. A friend tells me that they actually have shares in the company that provides their voice call services on the call centre side. So that must be a nice way to keep the revenue up..?!

7. Their shops cannot deal with anything but selling you stuff. And most the time you get not only contradictonary info there, but the prices seem to differ from shop to shop. So shop around, as they say...

8. The whole experience was very confusing and I wil never go back to Vodafone, not even if they pay me for it. As acommunication provider, they ought to sort out their own communication first, before trying to provide it to others....

9. On a number of occasions, they lost connectivity in Harrow last year; it was down on one ocassion for over 10 hrs. When calling Vodafone they knew nothing and told me I had a damaged SIM. However calling the local Mobile Shop in Harrow, revealed that the cell was down. Go figure...

10.Was on Direct Debit. Yet they decided to take the money out of my account when they were either bored, not too busy, or in need, as on no occasion was there a regular interval. One months nothing gets taken out of my account. The next nothing either, then 1 payment for three months ago... and so on. If you enjoy 'suprise DDebit' have a go at Vodafone DD...

Lets hear it from those fellow Vodafoners...

what? vodafone are the best:
The have the Best:

Customer service
Best UK Network Coverage
Most reliability

Good call packs payt

best tarifs for me

most of my friends and family are on Vodafone, and ive been a customer since october 1997 and havnt had 1 problem.

best GPRS/Vodafone Live! service.

You can check your balance in descretion on screen

You can press 1471 and check your last recived calls u have recieved even if your fone was turned off at the time AND/OR you had no signal so you didnt actually recieve the call - Vodafone still lets you know someone TRIED getting through (*#1345#) which is one of my favourite things about vodafone!!!

My only problem with vodafone is the way they limit you to 30k when sending mms.... thats poor considering T-mobile let u send 100k. which means smaller pictures

They sux bcos of the theme they implement on E710. I hate them for it

nolimit966, whats the point of this, if its two days behind, not matching their actual billing system on customer service side and overly complex to calculate, when dealing with overseas roaming calls/sms...

well, at least some one is happy. Anyone else had a nighmare with VF?

O2 lets you do most of that too... their 1471 also gives info even if the call didn't connect... I'd probably go with Vodafone if i didn't text as much... I guess O2 is probably the best for those that text more than call...

Posted by: mavericke

I believe Vodafone is putting its customers off because its call charges and monthly rental is expensive. Other than that I do not see the problem.

Posted by: ashrich

Been using Vodafone since Dec 1990 , never had any problems with them at all , d/ds have always been correct , network coverage has always been good and always a friendly and helpful person on the other end of the line whenever I have had need to get in touch with them . Perhaps I'm just lucky .....................

Posted by: Phazed

lol! Vodafone NZ rocks!
Free mms untill end of march (then they'll have a new deal, if not extended)
Unlimited KB sending (as far as i know)
and i won $50 just fer updaeting my personal details on the webby!

Dono what yer all complaining about! move to NZ and you got it sorted

Posted by: Smooove

Vodafone UK is much much better than any other network covering England. Reasons.....

Only other network that offers coverage in my area is O2........ and O2 drops out to sos calls all the time! This is just crap, especially when the closest mast to me is an O2 one?!?!?!

(so by now you should be with me on the fact that I'm comparing Vodafone experiences to O2 experiences)

O2 have mixed personel on their customer service line. They have helpful, not helpful, useless and rude. Vodafone are very helpful even to the point of giving me good advice on how to save money and get a good upgrade, even when I didn't ask for the advice.

O2 charges for you to call customer services. Vodafone is free. So O2 charges you for them to give you no help. Vodafone gives you help and advice for free.

O2 doesn't support sms delivery reports, Vodafone does. Okay, trivial I know, but it is usful to have when sending texts. And who doesn't support delivery reports?? thats just lazy!

Text messages from where I live to international numbers are included in my free texts with Vodafone. with O2 they aren't. Maybe I'm just lucky here??

So Vodafone might work out more expensive, but its not that much, and to be honest I don't have a problem paying for quality!!

There pricing here SUCKS though. They still havn't reduced the prices for text messenging even though Telecom, their major competitor, has put a $10 cap on text messenging. If ya do a lot of texting, on Vodafone you would pay a lot more than you would if u were with Telecom...

- James

Posted by: KiwiSteve

Vodafone in NZ way behind in pricing now
Telecom NZ have half price day calls to phones on the same network , plus 500 SMS messages locally for $ 10.00 per month

Come on Vodafone look at your SMS pricing are you really worried about SMS Spam ??

Half-price calls? Does Telecom still do this? I thought both Vodafone and Telecom stopped doing this at the end of Janurary 2004.

- James

Posted by: KiwiSteve

yes think you are right I no longer see the 27 to 27 half price day option anymore on the WebSite . I must have missed that !
I think the Corporates may still have that system but looks like the Consumer Option is gone ! Must check a friends account on 27 Cdma and see if he still has that

Vodafone in UK is expensive. Take a look at their plans and you will know that they are facing stiff competition. What they did was to change the off peak and wekend rate to £20 a month where consumers will have 1000 off peak minutes. This is much better compared to before. Anyway their line quality is as good as O2. I am using Vodafone simply because most of my friends are using Vodafone and if I am using a different network it will be very expensive.
This is not the case now as Vodafone had change their price plan to include cross network except for off peak price plan.

Posted by: ghost2501

I don't know about vodafone uk but vodafone ireland are even
worse. They don't even have wap 2.0 yet. And when i went into
the store to inquire they just shrugged their shoulders and had
absolutely no interest in helping.

Worst customer service ever, so much so that it convinced me to
change provider. Call, internet, and message charges are the
highest in ireland too

Posted by: TheAnnihilator

1. they're expensive

2. their pay as you go packages dont offer free txts and wap mins (unlike O2)

3. i think their CSD/GPRS is slow

4. their WAP chat sux (O2's is better)

5. voicemail is charged by the min, not by the call

6. they send u annoyin txts when u go abroad

7. when i had my GPRS activated, CS told me it would be 48 hours, it was workin the same day

8. their voicemail is annoyin cuz it keeps callin u back, when i used them as my main network (now secondary), i only had 6p once, couldn't answer it so i had to turn my phone off for a couple of days while i waited to top-up

9. they dont give away free sims

10. u cant txt them for things like: MMS activation, tariff changes etc... you have to call CS all the time

Posted by: towel401

vodafone really do adapt to the market and compeditors of each individual country and milk them as much as they can. when vodafone took over eircell here they just put up the prices, brought along annoying advertising, all red that hurts my eyes, stupid sharp gx10's, most expensive for text messages, no text bundles on pre paid

http://www.vodafone.ie/readytogo/ta...tosay/index.jsp

you have to pay the 30 cents even if you get the other guys voicemail

more expensive than 02 generally, no tariff to have cheap calls during the day and expensive at night like 02 does. they USED to but then they cut their costs before vodafone took over and never brought it back.

in holland they milk at least 20 cents for sms. they would never have $10 cap for sms here, they make a killing on it. $10??? wtf i know a guy who spends 100.. prolly $130.

Posted by: ringtone master

i think vodaphone are the worst network around

Posted by: TheAnnihilator

ok, they maybe overpriced, but they're not THAT bad

now o2, different story

Posted by: ringtone master

overall they are pish

Orange has recieved the most awards for customer service of any carrier, 7 years running I believe; which is free - the only network which offers 100% free customer service, and a dedicated data support department for connectivity between phones/laptops to access the internet.

Orange actually has the biggest network in the UK, and best network coverage.

You will recieve texts automatically on Orange for any missed calls from people that did not leave a message on your answerphone (be the phone off, or on).

Posted by: TheAnnihilator

i would use Orange as my main network, but i cant be bothered to unlock my GX10 which is a vodafone exclusive (has the logo on it), so best option is: stick with Vodafone as main

Posted by: bjh_101

I agree that Orange is the best (with best customer service) although it is not completly free, it costs standard rate to phone customer services on PAYG.

Posted by: shuurajou

Well, for contract customers who play line rental it's free. Since PAYG customers pay no line rental it's a standard call cost.

That's stupid. Here in NZ all networks lets all customers, regardless of if they're on contract or not, use Customer Service for free. I would refuse to use any network that charges customers an access fee for calling customer service. Looks like even Orange isn't doing good enough in the area of customer service compared to Vodafone/Telecom here in NZ.

- James

Posted by: shuurajou

Depends how you want to look at it. You could get free, crap customer service.

Orange PAYG in the UK may be generally just cheaper on calls in general, so they have to charge for CS to make up for that.

Posted by: KiwiSurfer

So if I complain about a coverage or capacity issue in a particular area, I have to pay them before I can tell them about it? That seems stupid. I hope they refund for genuine calls to CS.

- James

Posted by: bjh_101

There are generally never any coverage problems... and if there is then you obviously can't call customer services to tell them!!!

You get free customer service calls if you are calling for help in topping up your talk time balance or something similar, but calling to request GPRS settings or something cost standard rate.

Posted by: KiwiSurfer

Call them when you go back into coverage then. :-P

Ah, thats better than I thought. I was thinking they were charging you to add credit to your prepay balanace, but apparenly not!

- James

Posted by: hollow

ok im with vodaphone and i have just 1 complaint about them
a very annoying 1 too

when you have inclusive minutes on your contract there is no way possible to check how many inclusive minutes you have left for the month

you can call customer services but there 2 days behind or if your like me and get a contract through the carphone warehouse then vodaphone cant even help you at all

very very annoying i think
as all over providers send you a text message telling you your remaining talk time

hmm, it seems my GX10 is already unlocked, both my O2 & Orange sims worked in it

I have just got to add to this thread.

Vodafone absolutely suck. Maybe i,m just bitter, but after 10 yrs with Voda, i have never felt so much hate to one company as i do now.
I recently tried to cancel my contract with vodacon, and it is turning into a nightmare. Wrote the obligatory letter they ask for, and hear nothing.
Get a bill.
Phone customer services, and get a stroppy bint (no offence to women intended) with no interest/clue about CS.
Pay the bill thinking its probs wot i owe for termination of contract.
Following month get another bill.
Phone customer services again and get the host from hell with nothing but "uh huh uh huh uh huh mm mm mm uh huh"
Phone customer complaints and........................................get the same woman!! She then tells me "we aint got your letter" In a tone that says "Tough sh*t, Pay up, i dont give a f*ck"
That threw me over the top and so told her to shove it.
Write another letter asking to cancel. And still recieve no confirmation, until after recieving another bill i bite the bullet and phone CS again.
"Yes we got your letter It'll be cancelled next month"
Recieve yet another bill, then another, and now have the bailiffs letter. So thanks vodafone, from the heart of my bottom.
6 months trying to cancel a contract.
The phone was turned off, when the first letter was written and the sim destroyed. I bloody wish i,d used the free txt's and minutes now

Aside from that i switched to o2 because:
1 they are cheaper
2 the deals are better (voda lag by a good 6-9 months enticing new customers and price cuts.)
3 the coverage is sound.
4 customer services are friendly
& 5 Their corporate money making image is not rammed down your throat.

So to all the Vodacon lovers out there, the grass is greener on the other side. I got bit after 10 yrs and will not return. I hate them with a passion. I have even persuaded my family and friends to change (except those on orange they are a faithful bunch)

Posted by: naimwslim04

One thing that really makes me sick about Vodafone is Vodafone Branding .

The way that Vodafone brand ALL their newer phones with that disgustingly ugly red-white theme makes me sick. What is their obsession with red and white?

And then, (and I'm talking about the phones that are exlusive to Vodafone especially), they go and set restrictions on the functionality of the handsets! Take the Sharp GX30, for example, it has Bluetooth! Great! Shame you can't even use it for file transfer! Oh, wait, it was disabled. Why? So that us Vodafone customers would use MMS instead. It's the same story with the IR port. Ah, but we can use the IR port as a GPRS Modem. That's great, as long as the money keeps rollin' in then that's okay.

But then, MMS don't even send to people on other networks! (I don't know whether this is just a problem on my handset or if other people are getting the same problem too). There is also a restriction of 40KB on MMS size. What is the point of that?

These are just a taster of the things I hate about Vodafone, and I'm sure a lot of people are in agreement with me. This is the LAST time I will ever buy a Vodafone phone again.

Posted by: spam.account

They RESAMPLE JPEGS FROM THE INTERNET.

Yes, no kidding people, they do. The internet you get through GPRS or 3G from vodafone is not the internet as you think it is. They're using an "optimiser" (love the phrase) called "Macara" from some company which is in-line with the network infrastructure, and it "dumbs down" pics from the internet if you're using the internet APN.

It can't be turned off, and your pics will be about 1/3 the quality they should be.

This is apparently something vodafone did to be nice to their customers, so they don't have to pay so much. Yeah right -

I bet their infrastructure can't handle the volume of data over GPRS and 3G. Serves them right for not putting in a thick enough backbone, more like! But then they take it out on us, giving us shoddy service for the cash you and I pay.

So remember people. If you want to access the internet through GPRS or the wonderfully fast new 3G,

don't expect the internet to be delivered as it was created.

The arrogance is breathtaking. I'm cancelling the 3G contract off the back of this, if I can.

Posted by: D_Jansen

vodafone not good. i try to make call on my phone using prepaid sim kaart and sometime it tell me that i have no money left or sometime when dont have much money, it say numbers and keep saying for long time then hangs up. i switch KPN now. Much better

Posted by: wiggins

Vodafone has held a dominant position in the UK for the last 15 years but in all that time they have successfully managed to tick off nearly 60% of all their contract subscribers.
The reasons? Poor customer service. Dishonest billing practises and appalling confusion on what and what is not included in their contract services.
So why haven't they learned and changed? Because its deliberate. A confused subscriber cannot challenge his bill or his contract.
Compare Vodafone's opaqueness to O2's clarity and honesty and there's no contest.
DON'T GET A CONTRACT WITH VODAFONE, YOU WILL BITTERLY REGRET IT.
