unsolved mysteries: the bitpim troubleshooter

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

honestly I don't think I did this much research in highschool. I've looked at hundreds of websites, searched 10-20 forums, read articles, gone through at least 5 search engines, and spent about 8 hours looking for alternatives to bitpim, since the troubleshooter supplied with the program and on the Bitpim Website don't describe the problem I have, and all the forums I've searched don't seem to come up with a clear solution, and after looking here for awhile I noticed a thread with no replies, I was hoping someone out there had been blessed with knowledge I had not found, and would have enough mercy to share it.

I've tried multiple settings in the 1x dept. on my phone, I've tried multiple settings in bitpim. I use a VX 6000 as you can see.

Let me get down to the grit of it.
Here's the LOG:
1:10:58.915 COM1: Opening port COM1, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0

1:11:22.019 Error: Device needs attention - LG-VX6000 on COM1
LG-VX6000 on COM1: The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew.

See the help for troubleshooting tips
^a crude joke no doubt.

and after its kind enough to display that, I get an alert:

LG-VX6000 on COM1: The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew.

Now, I have seen this a few times in threads, but nobody seems to have an answer. SOMEONE MUST KNOW! Have mercy on me and everyone else, will you?

Not only did I spend hours surfing the net for solutions to this, and hours changing settings and attempting to find a way past that dreaded prompt, but I've spent hours finding alternatives to bitpim, and have come up with nothing. Evyerthing thats syncable out there seems like its made for every LG phone other than the VX6000.

I would appreciate any information anyone can offer.
Thank you,
-one very unsatisfied data cable customer

ok, I tried looking for this "nobody seems to know" answer myself just yesterday, but found diddly squat. I finally figured it out myself (pat on back).
It's a little confusing.
I hope I get this straight.
1) first make sure that you're phone says "RS232 port" not "USB"
2) After all the correct drivers are installed (especially the one that says, "LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port Driver" This is a driver for your "PORTS" in the DEVICE MANAGER icon. (by now I'm sure you know what I mean by device manager)
3) Plug your phone to your pc.
4) make sure all of the drivers install correctly
5) Open your DEVICE MANAGER icon in "START > CONTROL PANEL> SYSTEM>Hardware (tab)"
6) Click on the "+" on PORTS and double click the line "LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port Driver.."
7) Go to the "port Settings" tab and click on "Advanced" NOW this where it's a little confusing.
8) I changed my port to COM 2 which was available. Try that or choose the lowest possible available port.
9) Save your changes by clicking OK OK..
10) Start BitPim
11) Click on EDIT > Settings
12) Click on the "COM Port" tab and click "Browse.."
13) Select the port that you selected above in DEVICE MANAGER.
14) Hit OK and See if it works now
15) Make sure before you download/upload data your phone says it is using the Serial RS232 port. It has a tendency to CLOSE or switch to USB.

Try this. I hope it works for you. It was very frustrating for me to get it to work also. But once it works, it great!!

Thank you so much! (I think).
I still have one problem. Where do you find those drivers? are they available for download somewhere? another thing that took a large chunk of my time was searching for more device drivers that were a) hopefully compliant with my phone, and b) hopefully compliant with my cable which I was stupid enough to buy off of ebay, its a generic brand and came with a driver disc which seemed to install correctly, but contained no software for my phone.
When I first plugged it in XP jumped all over it and tried to install drivers for this listing: "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM", which was unsuccessful. Of course after installing the drivers I received with the cable I searched the qualcomm website for answers and was unable to find anything helpful.

Thanks again for your tips. Unfortunately until I find something new in teh way of drivers I'm still stuck in the mud.

Go to the Futuredial website and download the USB installer. Then run it before you ever try to plug in the cable. This should install the correct drivers for you. I hope this helps.

this forum rocks.
eh it took a little work but the futuredial drivers worked fine with my generic cable that I paid $15 for off ebay.
XP kept finding new hardware and I just kept directing it to the folder that the setup unzip had created for the futuredial drivers, and after 3 or 4 times of newly "recognized hardware", things work perfect, and btw, using bitpim .7 test 5 indicates what com is most likely your phone, for those who are less saavy about choosing com ports etc.
and for anyone else out there who had this problem, and you're lucky enough to have gotten a cable off ebay with cheap drivers, disreguard the XP warning for installing things it hasn't listed as safe/functional to install. Futuredial works fine.
A million thank-you's guys.
