I just wanted to give a short set of instructions on how to get a Treo 600 for $404.

Here is what I did:

Go to handspring.com and look for the link for "Treo 180, 270 and 300 owners." It's going to ask you for your previous serial number in order to qualify for the $399 price so head over to ebay and purchase a serial. I got mine for $5.

When asked what provider you use chose "other GSM." That will guarantee you that you get an unlocked phone. According to what I've read on other forums, people that chose T-Mobile may or may not get a unlocked phone. I can't verify this. The difference between the generic version and the T-Mobile/Cingular one is that the generic version has no branding and is not preconfigured. If you don't mind setting a few configuration settings, get the unbranded and guaranteed unlocked one. Place the order with free 3-day shipping. Some states will get charged tax.

Please note that there is currently a two to four week shipping delay. From what I've read, most orders have been averaging with about a two week delay.

I hope this helps anyone looking for a Treo 600 that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I was able to get my Treo 600 for $299 at CompUSA for Sprint. (It's not unlocked or anything like that.) I then saw it for $229 at CompUSA a week later!
