x70 and Cingular voicemail problem

Hi all,

I am using X70 with Cingular network; the problem I am having is that the voicemail icon is alway present on the display and there are no voicemails.

Every time when someone leaves me a voicemail it will notify me through SMS message with a content-less message, after I delete the voicemail it will send another content-less message!?!?

Putting the same sim card in other phones (SE P800, Moto V600) problem goes away, so I am guessing it's the setting within X70 that needs to be changed.

Anyone has the same problem and have a solution?

I have exactly the same problem. It has something to do with Unlocked x70. I tried different Sims and flashed to newer Firmware on my X70 and the VM icon won't go away. I guess you would have to do what I've done. Live with that.

I have the same problem and I finally found out that it's a US settings problem. The X70 is made for the Euro-Asian market and their voicemail standards are a little different so when you use your X70 in the States it will show the voicemail icon on the screen. If you use it in Europe or Asia it won't (I haven't really tried that yet but I hope I will soon

That's strange, because none other handset has the same problem. I will be in Asia in couple weeks and will see what happens.

Mine dosen't show the Icon all the time, only when I get a new Voicemail.

But I do get the SMS when I have a VM and then one when I check the voicemail.

That is normal !!!!!!

It might also depend in what state you are and if your phone is a Euro or Asian specs (software might be slightly different). I sent mine to Panasonic UK to see if they could fix it but there is no solution for that because the phone is not supported in the US and they haven't fixed any bugs that might happen when roaming in the US

I've been pondering an X70 on and off. This may sway me away from it again.

I had a Sharp/Vodaphone GX20... awesome phone! Tons of Vodaphone crud that was useless to a Cingular/US user like me. I found if I had an voicmail waiting, I wouldn't get an icon. Instead, I would get a text message with a few ASCII characters of gibberish.

Ditto if I cleared my voicemail messages... instead of an icon going away, I would get a 2nd SMS message of similar text gibberish.

I eventually got rid of the GX20. Sigh.
