What about the ATP mmc's listed on the memoryX page? Are they compatible with the 3600/3650?

No not yet, the Nokia compatible versions will be available only in November. It's listed on each MMC card page of that site. Sorry.

Hey, i think the lexar 256mb one shudnt be up there. i just bought one from wal-mart and it wont fit in my phone. It has these little plastic pieces between the copper part where the info is read that make the card too thick to fit on my 3650.

If anyone can help me it wud be much appreciated cuz i dont have the receipt anymore.

That's strange, did the packaging or documentation say that it should fit your 3650? Be sure you have an MMC card and not an SD card as those are too large to fit into a Nokia Series 60 phone.

Posted by: eibowow3650

yea, im sure its not an sd card. I took the bottom plastic part off, so now it fits, but the phone doesnt recognize it. Do i need to do something to format the card in order for it to work?

Yes normally that will do the trick. Give that a try.

Posted by: eibowow3650

i tried.. but its not reading the card at all. When i go to format it, it says no memory card insterted and my only options are help and exit. is there a *# # i can use to format mem. card?

Strange, not that I know of. I don't think the Full Master Reset will fix that problem either since that clears the entire phone memory. If you want to try anyway, enter *#7370#, your security code (the default is 12345 provided that you have not changed it) and then confirm by selecting Yes.

It could also be that your MMC card is defective. Have you tried it in another phone?

Posted by: eibowow3650

yea, i tried it in another s60 and it didnt work either. I guess ur right it must be defective.... but i dont have the receipt to return it at wal-mart, the packaging is gone, and i took the blue plastic off so that i could get the copper part of the card to the copper of the phone. hm... i wonder if they'll still return it.

You can certainly try that .

Interesting

I might be an idiot but I could've swore that my 128MB SD (yes, SD. Not MMC) card worked in my Nokia 3650.
It DID NOT fit the way the original did, i.e. the metal sliding tab would not slide over the card but it was still recognized & worked properly.
Maybe it was a fluke or maybe I was mistaken.
I'll check the brand when I get it.

I will confirm when I get the phone sent to me from my wife. I just moved to Bahrain & wasn't certain which cell phone to bring. Should've stuck with the 3650!

Posted by: eibowow3650

thats cool man. Where did u get ur sd card from?

That certainly would be unusual, if you get the chance, post some pics of this since based on what I know, the hardware of all S60 phones is only able to read MMC cards. This would certainly disprove that theory.

No probably not since such a function must be supported by the hardware as well.

Posted by: distorted

http://www.pretec.com sells 128mb *that is the highest they have* and it sales at $78
i sell 265mb MMCs at $65 lol do the math or i could break it down
2 times the memory for $13 less and is what i run in all of my cells.

read the sig to find out where to get it.

Posted by: eibowow3650

how come here it says $65 and on the other forum it says $87??? Even in paypal it says $87 not 65 for the 256 mb one

u say your 256 is $65 then ur sig says $78 then on the other forum and paypal its $87. Which one is it?

Posted by: distorted

my supplier and myself have ran out of 256mb MMCs due to so many requests for them. Since this happend i had to find a larger supplier because i cant have people on hold waiting on MMCs.
the new prices are effective as of last night.

the MMC is $78
shipping is $5 *USA shipping only different charges for other then USA*
and paypal charges a % on any time sold so i add that into the cost..

if someone sends a money order it is still 78 + 5 *us shipping*

howard forums uses a very out dated version of vBulletin meaning it will not update all the previous sigs, leaving a trail of old info.

once the old supplier brings in a new shippment of $65 MMCs i will order as many as they have and throw up a special, but untill they can restock i cant sell any at the lower price.
sorry about the confusion

Posted by: distorted

forgot to add that i am now selling
512mb MMCs
256mb MMCs
128mb MMCs

if you request a bulk buy from me then you will save a larger amount of money *maybe you might want to resell them also*

Posted by: eibowow3650

hm.. when will you be getting the $65 ones? Any estimates? A week, a month, 3 months, 6 months?

Posted by: distorted

thats what i asked but they said "untill further notice we will not be able to accommodate your requests for the 256mb MultiMedia Cards" so i asked the same thing you asked and they said at this time it is undetermined but we will let you know when we have a shipment you can buy.
not so helpfull but what can you do besides go with the next manufacture you can get under you.

Posted by: eibowow3650

okay, i found some for cheaper on e-bay.

ne word on this? SD cards seem to be cheaper than mmc's and im still running a 16mb on my fone the odd thing is that my mmc fits prefectly into the SD card reader in my pc and thats how i transfer all my files

if i can find an sd memory card then ill try fitting it and get back to you.

Posted by: distorted

NO SD does NOT work!!!

and yes that guy was an idiot for thinking it worked

Posted by: TriBand81

An SD card won't work since the pins/metal contacts are spaced differently. Besides, MMCs bought off the net are fairly cheap anyway.

Posted by: kupz

if they r spaced differently then surely they wouldnt work in my card reader??

Posted by: TriBand81

Quote:

That might be different if you use a multi-card reader. My knowledge about why SD cards won't work in S60 phones is because someone tried it on their N-Gage and it was too large thus causing making it impossible for the SD's contacts to match the metal connectors of the MMC card slot on the N-Gage.

Now your card reader be a different story. MMC cards made for the N-Gage are much smaller than say a Smartmedia card. What kind of card reader are you using? It has to be multi-card reader since otherwise it wouldn't be able to read your MMC card.

Posted by: kupz

On VERY close inspection on my card reader i noticed the tiny writing 'sd/mmc' im guessing this means it IS a multi card reader and not like advertised just an SD reader!

thanks a lot though for your help, i will look around for a well priced mmc!

reyna, I would be careful with the Kingmax MMC. Numerous problems have been reported when using a lower end version such as their 128 MB or 256 MB MMCs. Go for another brand. If you do want to try the Kingmax MMC, then make sure you can get a refund or an exchange in case it does not work.

Best of Luck

Posted by: reyna12

So is there any other brands of 512mb or should i buy a couple or a few 256mb?

If 256 what is the best brand that will work on 6600?

The other manufacturer of 512 MB MMCs is TEC.

For 256 MB, you can choose from:

Kingston

Mitekmedia 256MB (Confirmed by Bennett, 26.3.2004) this has shown some incompatibilities during use.

No Info
Viking (256mb & 512mb)
LeadData
Memorex
Fly
Generic Avoid Generic devices like the plague at the moment, a lot of suppliers have excess stock of Kingmax MMC's that they cannot get rid of. Which they can quite legally re-label under Generic.

New Cards coming (Purely theoretically pending verification)

All right you're welcome

Posted by: djjuice

I have a 512MB ATP and it works great

Posted by: distorted

brand names dont realy matter as most MMCs are made by a no name company and then others slap their sticker on them.

as for 512mb your not going to find a lot of people who make them..
if you were to get two 256mb MMCs you will still have to install apps to the MMC in order to use the other mmc with say movies ect..
you dont realy ever want to install to the phones memory because anything you do on the phone uses the Phones memory as Virtual Memory *this holds what you are doing in a app and will recall it later if/when it is needed*

best bet is always to go with more memory then you "think" you need so that way you dont have to upgrade later.

as most of us with the 256mb MMC know its never enough once you realy start getting into using these phones..

Posted by: Slofsky

I recently purchased a 256 MB MMC from the brand extreMEmory and it works like a charm .

Posted by: mitodna

i just got Apacer 256MB, still testing it, well, anyone can tell how to stress test it?

thank you

mitodna

Posted by: TriBand81

What do you mean by stress test it? You mean fill it up with as much as possible?

Posted by: mitodna

hmm, like stress testing in PC?

well, so far so good, the i can format the card, able to install stuff, hang a little bit when unpacking files with N-Gage,

so it is a good MMC?

thank you

mitodna

Posted by: TriBand81

I haven't heard anything negative about Apacer MMCs. The only thing you might notice is that the card may take a bit to load the mp3s/AAC files when you want to use the Music Player to listen to the tracks stored on it. That's due to the large amount of storage capacity of your MMC and not a fault with your N-Gage. The N-Gage's processor needs a bit of time to open everything.

By the way, feel free to visit www.n-gage-help.com/forums.html if you need more help .

Cheers

Posted by: mitodna

i see, ok, let me test Music and Video files now

if it ok then i will recommend it, one thing, Apacer dont really manufacture the MMC right? they just rebadged the chip?

mitodna

Posted by: TriBand81

I honestly wouldn't know whether Apacer rebrands their MMCs or not. It could be.

I'm off to bed

Hi,

Just got a 3620 (and just joined this forum) Following some suggestions on this forum, that one can never have enough memory, I'd like to get a 512 card, but ouch, they are expensive. Froogle wasn't much help at all.

Would appreciate if you could point me in the right (and least expensive) direction, to buy a 512 MMC.

Also, though it might be the wrong thread, what software do you consider a must-have or a very-nice-to-have?

Is there a way to make the phone ring louder?

Thanks

Posted by: Andrewu

Hitachi 256 MB MMC card works fine in my N-Gage, at least for storing apps and files. Still having some issues with the MP3 files (I think it is in figuring out the directory structure; I'm a Mac and Linux user and refuse to get a PC just to install the Nokia Suite), but I will do more searching before angering the veterans with a potential noob question

The only 512 MB MMC I know of is made by TEC. Try Amazon or eBay for such a card since it seems that almost no mainstream retailers carry this brand. You might have to look around for a bargain. The search I did came up with all German sites and those prices were in €.

As for software, go to www.my-symbian.com and look here for software:

http://my-symbian.com/7650/applications/index.php
http://my-symbian.com/7650/download/index.php

Software recommendations are here:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=347611

As for making your phone ring louder, try setting the ringer volume to its highest setting under Menu --> Profiles --> Choose the profile you want to adjust (normally General) --> Personalize and scroll to Ringer Volume.

Enjoy

which 1gb card works with ngage?

and has anyone tried a 512 on 6600

any phone works with any mmc
dont matter the size or brand.

the only people that have problems with this is when you get a call or text while formating *but same true with any mmc*
or they get a defective MMC right out of the box *it happens time to time*

i can get any size up to 1gig... doubt you will find any better price then what i get

It depends, certain MMCs may also only be incompatible with the N-Gage for example but work perfectly on the 3650 or 6600.

Maybe it was a fluke or maybe I was mistaken.
I'll check the brand when I get it.

I looked into the SD spec versus MMC and it is possible -- THOUGH I HAVEN'T DONE IT. SD is designed to work in the narrow 1-bit mode of MMC as well. You can check the docs:

http://www.sandisk.com/oem_sd_memorycard.html
http://www.sandisk.com/pdf/oem/SD_P...l_specsv101.pdf

The physical size of SD is usually too thick (2.1mm versus 1.4mm). For the phone (3650 etc) I have no idea if you can get a 2.1mm card to physically fit in there. Then again there is such a thing as Thin (1.4mm) SD Card if you read the later pages of that pdf.

Edited to say that I found a 2.1mm SD spacer in a Treo 600 and it won't really fit in the 3650 properly. The pin alignment looks ok but it's too thick. I haven't had any luck finding a 1.4mm thin SD card either (not mini-SD because that's different).

I just found a Panasonic 16MB SD card and I tried it but couldn't get it working. It is 2.1mm and so it won't fit into the connector properly enough for the pins to touch. I'd need to shave some plastic somewhere. Whereas the MMC pins are surface flush, the SD card's pins are inset, which I believe prevented the connection. It's not worth it.

I'm looking to buy a 256 MMC for my 3650, but I read somewhere that you must have firmware 3.14 for it to work.

I'm currently using 2.54. does anyone out there use a 256 MMC with a 3650 running 2.54?

Posted by: heart_locks

You are very right. If ur firmware is not upgraded then your phone will show dissapointing results in working with a 256MB mmc card. I have heard this complaint from many of my friends. Upgrading the firmware will be the better option for you.

Posted by: Malaco0219

^ err

someone on the forum once had a 2.54 3650 with 256 mmc and he was fine.. he even showed it at the hofo meet and it was fine

Thats what i said bro it will work but there is a possibility where your phone can get fused up. I have seen many of my friends facing the same problem so i think there should be upgrade, if ur phone goes well without a upgrade then its even more better.

Posted by: Malaco0219

i believe king max has no problems

just dun have too much struff on it i guess.. (kinda contradiciting the fact of having a memory card of large size ) but the more fille ur card is the longer it takes to load..
i never heard of any probs on 3650 and 256 mmc otehr then slow processing just like 6230 on 256

Posted by: heart_locks

You are dead right. Thats the most peculair problem Nokia phones faces when higer range mmc card are inserted. Their working gets slower than a snail but yet my 6600 rocks a big time

Posted by: Malaco0219

^ cause 6600 is designed to be able to use 256..i duno about 512.. but i heard its fine
3650 was designed wen 128 was available as the latest card.. so it was designed for 128

Thanks for the compliment.
I finally got the phone & both of my SD cards all together & this is what I found.....
...as suspected, neither worked.
The thing that made me think they worked was that under "SIM" on the menu, all of my contacts showed but they had already been transferred over to the phone from the MMC card vice being transferred from the SD card.
When I go to "EXTRAS" and check the sim it displays "No SIM inserted".

I apologize for the confusion & getting people's hopes up. Sorry.

Hi Everyone, we have many users w/ the 6600, ATP 512MB MMC combination. For specifically the 6600 I haven't confirmed compatibility w/ our 1GB card although it has worked for 6230 users w/ no problems! It should be the same but I don't want to state anything until I can confirm it. I'll let you guys know as soon as I know....

John, I believe there is a limit based on the firmware. IIRC, the max for the 3650 (with latest firmware) is 256 megs.

Posted by: johnmed3

Man! I' was sure hoping these were compatible. Oh well, will have to make do with 256 Mg .

Ya it says "memory card missing or corrupted"

Posted by: HighLife

Im going to take that as a sign and says thats probaly a bad sim card. I would write back to the seller and discuss returning the item for another.

I wouldnt waste to much time troubleshooting cause its probaly a loss cause. Just return it and see.

There is alot of generic stuff out there but alot of the feedback seems to be that it's not very compatible and usually comes form kingmax.

I'm leaning towards the ritek stuff but would like some feedback.

It's not that kingmax is generic but rather generic cards usually are made from kingmax memory.

I've read alot of forums that have similiar posts and they all seem to have issues or worn against either one.

Posted by: nokiangagegsm

Hi all:

I've been reading up on compatible MMC cards for Nokias.
I've read through this thread several times, although its so long, its easy (for me) to get confused.
Also, it looks as though the combatibility list isn't completely updated.

I'm specifically interested in my (original) N-Gage.

A have a few questions, if you don't mind.....

1. What 1GB MMC cards are known to work with it?

2. I understand RS-MMC cards are smaller, but do they also
consume less power?

3. Is the N-Gage really that slow when referencing large
cards and if so, how slow (is it still useable?)
Would it be better to stay with a 512 card?

4. Is the slowness related to the organization of files
(or lack thereof - ie. fragmentation) OR
actually the number of files?

5. Is there a maximum number of MP3s which can be referenced
by the software? I know some MP3 players max out at 99.
Is there is a limit, can it be overcome by using folders (ie.
by artist, etc.)?

6. With an RS-MMC adapter, do RS-MMCs fit into an N-gage and
does the adapter normally ship with the card?

7. I see some references to ATP. Do the 512 & GB cards work?
If so, where can I get them? I see references to some sort
special offering discount.

8. I see Topram works, but there's so few on E-bay its hard
to get them under the "Buy it now price".

9. I see 1GB Transcends work, and Digi4me has them listed for
$98 including shipping on PriceWatch.com BUT they can no
longer get them and they are substituting "premiums" which
equate to A-Data "MyFlashes" which I believe may not
work...any comments?

10. Also, angel_wing what coupon_code are you referring to
and where are you getting your cards?

Thanks in advance for any information/answers to my questions.

Posted by: angel_wing0

10. check the nokia forum and u'll see..jeff from atp is selling 512 mmcs for $60 USD + shipping

Posted by: nokiangagegsm

Thanks, but it looks like its closed as of 2 days ago.

Anyone else care to tackle my other questions....please?

Thanks in advance.

e-bay search: "TopRam 1GB MMC" - (must use quotes)

9/15/2004:
- won an e-bay auction for a TopRam 1GB MMC.
- price was $81.00 + $12.50 US shipping = total price $93.50 US
- was shipped 3 hours after ordering!
- was shipped from CA
- was shipped "regular" insured postal mail (shipping cost was definitely padded, but Priority Mail or anything else was not expected as auction description eludes to regular postal shipping and does not promise anything else - no complaints).
- tracking number was included although USPS did not scan item during transit (only when it was shipped and delivered)

9/17/2004:
- arrived in PA (other side of the country) in less than 3 days (72 hours) from time of order!
- worked first time in my original N-gage (no formatting required)
- amount of RAM displayed correctly using FExplorer v1.10
(979.719 MB available after formatting)
- displayed in PC (Windows XP) as a TEC card.

9/20/2004:
- prices on e-bay are now less than $77 before shipping

'My Flash' brand 1GB MMC works with my Nokia 3650. It crashes my laptop when I plug it into the laptop card reader slot tho, and about 25% of the time when I put it into the USB card reader for my desktop, my desktop gives me an error like bad media. But it works flawlessly in the phone, and boot times are exactly (so far as I notice, I didn't like use a stopwatch and time it to the hundredth of a second or anything) the same as they were with an equal amount of data on a 16MB MMC. I got it off ebay for about $100, but the seller I bought from (qualityrams) doesn't seem to have them anymore, and I didn't love their shipping, cos the envelope was clearly labeled that it was a 1GB MMC.

Posted by: nokiangagegsm

Sounds a little unreliable.
--
I saw a post elsewhere, where someone said it would not work.
Digi4me.com sells them for $93 plus $3.99 (minimum) shipping.
Their Transcend (or Premium) MMCs are really A-Datas since they can't get Transcends right now.

Posted by: helwitch

Quote:

Like I said, it works perfectly in the phone. I've rebooted the phone expressly for the purpose of making sure the phone would consistently read the card roughly 3 dozen times. I was very wary after the card causing problems on both computers, so I used extreme caution and acted very paranoid about the card working, but I've had it 2 weeks now and it works just fine in the phone. I still can't get my laptop to read it, but my usb card reader will read it if I plug in the card reader, let the computer detect the card reader, try and open the card reader (without a card in it so that it says media not present) and THEN put the 1GB card into the reader.
Edit-Oh, yeah, both the PC and laptop run windows XP, and the phone, obviously, runs symbian. I haven't tried the card with any other OS, cos I lack access to any mac or linux computers.
Edited Edit-And my Kodak DX4530 digicam reads the card with no problems either.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a 512mb mmc after I exhausted the entire space on the 128mb mmc in my 6600. Hence, I've decided that my 256mb mmc will go beneath the hood of the 6600 while the ngage gets a new disk.
I have an option of either buying a Kingmax (or Kingston [not too sure]), a Microsim and a NCP 512mb mmc.
Does anyone own any one of the listed ones above and if yes, have you had any sort of issue with the card?
Please reply guys coz I need to have it by Monday or Tuesday...

So just to confirm...a 1gb mmc works on a 3650? What firmware do you have on your 3650? I was reading up on MMCs here on hofo and the general consensus was that the limit for a 3650 was 512 and the phone lagged. So from your experience, a 1gb mmc works well and access times are not impaired? That makes me wanna get one now, too! And I just got a 512 ATP mmc, darnit...

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, didn't see the posts of ppl asking which firmware I have. According to *#0000#, I have V 3.16, 20-05-2003 NHL-8. And, no, I see no difference in access times with the same amount of data on the 1GB MMC as I had on the 128MB MMC I had in. I'm not saying it wouldn't get slow if I had the whole 1GB filled (which I plan to do eventually with video and music, so I can watch/listen to stuff while on the bus), but with about 90MB of data, there's no noticable access times, not while booting, not while browsing the card via FE Explorer, or while running apps that have been installed to the MMC.

I just picked up a 1gb KingMax mmc from Newegg. It was $78 plus shipping. Popped it in my original n-gage and it works fine. Performance is on par with my old 64mb. No problems so far.

i got my email back

well after talkin to the guy from atp. i dunno now. i mean yes ATP card are GREAT! but still do i need to be that great? i think i'll still get the kingmax 1gb but invest in a 512 Rs-mmc from atp.

i'll still be debating this one. newegg 75 for kingmax or Fry's 100$ ATP. grrrr such tough choices.

is it both for 1 gb?

if it is 75 for 1 gb and 100 for 512...i'll rather get the $75 for 1 gb also
