does that go the same with the 6600?

Posted by: angel_wing0

yip it does

Posted by: 1000101

I = confused.... on www.compusa.com they say the MMC is "Forward Compatible to Secure Digital (SD) Card Slot" so why isnt the sd card backward compatible with the mmc slot?

Posted by: angel_wing0

they just made it like that...*shrigs*

Posted by: 1000101

thats crap on a stick cuz i dont like buying things online and most stores dont carry mmc
i did find 128mb at bestbuy for 35 bux usd but thats 35 bux.... i got my 256mb jump drive for 40 bux 4 months ago.

anyone wanna donate to the "1000101 needs a memory card foundation" ?

i ordered A-Data's 1GB MMC for my 6600...i read somewhere that they were compatible with my 6600, i think from allaboutsymbian forums so I ordered it from this online shop called Amamax . but its been like 10 days and they still havent shipped mine out and don't even reply to my emails...anyways if i get it i will test it out and post the details here..

btw, it even says on the Amamax site that it is compatible w/ 6600 so if it doesnt work, i can blame them...

Posted by: angel_wing0

tell us the results man once u got the card

i've been in contact with those guys. The rep was really nice but he was dumber then a door knob. I tired to explain to him but he didn't know jack ×××××. I'm pretty sure he got confused with SD and MMC all together. They NEVER replied to my email either. Do you know if they shipped it out or not yet?

I love your review on it. Seeing as how i might come into hands with 100+ of these babies.

on top of the 6600 they claim it works on the n-gage. but no one can verify it.

1 guy selling on ebay said it works. and that site said it works. 4 other places never tested but was against me trying it.

Posted by: minmaster

Got my A-Data 1GB and seems to work fine...must've taken an hour to format the card...but it seems to work ok with my 6600.

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

sounds good. how much can you get out of it 979mb?

Do you have access to a n-gage?

How are the lagg times.

1 hour? mine takes like 10-15 and i was cursing the hell out of it already

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

yea that does seem a bit longer then normal. took me 7min on my 64mb lexar

Angel. you got PM

Posted by: angel_wing0

takes 7 minutes on a 64 mb?? wow thats LONG...i m pretty sure my 256 doesnt take as long as that

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

yea it got on my nerves. i mean my hard-drive formats in 10 mins and thats like a 80gb

Lexar is a pretty decent brand too. like Sandisk.

Did you get that PM i sent ya Angel? reaguarding the diffrences between a 6600 and a n-gage from the MMC point of view ? Given the fact that was 6600 was made about 1-2 years after the n-gage shouldn't something that works for one go for the other? I know the n-gage and the 3650 is the closer match but yea. I'm trying to do more research in find what works and what doesn't

Posted by: Dreamcore

I should note that the regular line of budget Sandisk media has a long-standing rep for being about the slowest that you can buy

Really, though, what we could really use is a Symbian MMC benchmarking app so that we can run our own tests and compare, because the actual model of phone/camera/device with which you use a flash card makes a big difference in the results

Posted by: angel_wing0

no i didnt =P

actually, dont buy it just yet...i am having corruption problems with the A-data card but i am not sure if it is card reader/computer problem or the mmc card...whenever i add large movies to the card for the 2nd time, my card gets corrupt...has anyone experienced this before? i will try to test it out on another computer...

Um...yeah...BowLoFTurTLe had problems with one of those A-Datas...

I'm waiting on a 1GB PQI that I ordered for $76, I'll be letting you all know how that goes.

Posted by: m5ionsvtec

it's weird how some people have no problems with them and some people have so many issuse with them. but i'll defenetly wait and see what happens.....i really want to use the smartmovie thing to play movies n my phone, even tho it seems kinda pricy to just play movies.... oh well.... thanx for all the info and work guys

peter

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

a-data's 1gb dont work on n-gage's its a fact. Dont try it wont detect and on a very rare chance it does detect its a 16mb instead of 980mb. Pointless stuff. The a-datas might work on the 6600 and above. but the only person i know of who has one is minmaster and he just stated about he has issues.

Tough call. My ATP doesn't give me any issues other then the general lag. which makes me wanna get the 512mb instead.

Posted by: angel_wing0

strange..my ATP doesnt lag AT ALL

Posted by: Dreamcore

Where should we look for lag, or what would be some good tests for an MMC?

I wonder if, for instance, timing how long it takes to format the MMC (on the phone) is a direct indicator of write speed.

Access time and read speeds are probably more important on N-Gages though, which don't have cameras...

There is a phone benchmarking app (SPMARK04), but even in the $250 version it doesn't seem to have any storage speed tests.

By the way, once I get the 1GB, after I put on a bunch of apps and games, but before I fill the balance with full-length movies and pr0n, I want to try this: http://members.chello.nl/epzachte/Wikipedia/

^ nice app!~

Posted by: ToyBoy

Im using a kingmax 60X 1 GB MMC on my nokia 3620...and it works great!

No problems!

Posted by: angel_wing0

my friend just got a trascent 1 gb mmc..works perfect on my nagge!

Posted by: BROCKIM

so it might work on the 3650?

Posted by: angel_wing0

btw for those of u who is thinking of getting a ATP, read:

http://www.auphanonline.com/article..._id=1498&page=6

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

thats crazy putting a card in peanut butter. Those tests didn't prove much. ATP didn't tower over anyone. And no one towered over ATP. Just proves that ATP is among on of the top brands. It might of proved that the cards are really durrable. But then again SD cards are thicker and the 2gb is newer meaning maybe it was made under a diffrent type of mold or something. ATP is one of the better brands. Get it if you dont want to worry about it not working on you phone because it will. And it works as a SD in everything that i have tried so far.

Posted by: angel_wing0

well try it with a sandisk sd card..u'll be surprise about the results

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

i have a 1gb SD sandisk card as well. but what would i prove if i attempt to tear that apart. I baby my mmc/sd cards. But yea so far ATP has my vote just because no one has ever complained about the card in anyway that i know of.

Posted by: jhsieh

Thanks for the recs guys!

does anyone know if eDisk 512mb MMC works with the nokia 6620 ??

they are dirt cheap on ebay

Posted by: Trekker

I recently got a PDI 512mb MMC (it's a Taiwanese company I believe), and it is working great with my 6600. Will try it out with my sis's 6230 too, but i'm sure it will work there too.

best solution is to ask them

Posted by: Prez420

I have a Lexar 1GB that has the same prob... it a MMC card but it has small plastic dividers between the metal connectors. ALL my MMC cards have this except the stock 32mb card... what do I need to do to get a 1GB card to work in this POS?

Unfortunately, by "Symbian" they don't mean Series 60. They say they want to make such an app, but they don't know when

So no local Wikipedia on my N-Gage unless Tome Raider files can be converted to Mobipocket or something

So I was thinking, hey, I don't really need a 1GB anymore, maybe I should get a 512MB instead. Then I checked how much space I was using on my card already, and it was: 512MB.

So I guess 1GB it is.

My PQI 1GB works.

Any ideas for tests are welcome.

For example, my 1GB formatted in the phone in 52 minutes flat. I have no idea if format times means anything, but there it is, see if you can beat it when you format your card

Are you sure it's 60x?

If it's black, it's only 13x.

I have the same Black one and it works for my 6620, 4.22.1

Really the guy at the store assured me it was 60x...I has my doubts....but went with it anyways....
It even says on the receipt that it was a 60x....

Can you explain to me on the reasoning of it being 13x...maybe I can go back ..and give him a good yelling...hehe...

i have the same card i use for 6600 but it frequently gets corrupted when i copy files to it from my pc through media reader...does anyone know why corruption happens? im thinking it might be a defective card.

i formatted it many many times..everytime it gets corrupted, i have to format it again. it seems like if I go over the 200MB ( im estimating) of the 1GB, the card frequently gets corrupt. also, if I write files to the card that already contains data, the card gets corrupt easily. but if it is a freshly formatted card, writing files to it causes less frequent corruption...maybe i should just exchange the **** card..

Posted by: angel_wing0

yheah that i guess u should

Posted by: Soul814

kingston and a data work for ngage?

im getting 512 from newegg

Posted by: Jagasian

I just got a new N-Gage QD and a new Super Talent 128MB MMC card. I can confirm that the Super Talent is absolutely not compatible as it constantly causes the N-Gage to think that the card was removed and inserted, over and over again. It also causes a system crash and many other problems. Buyer beware, the Super Talent might be inexpensive, but it is a worthless piece of crap.

Yep, I bought a 512MB A-Data from newegg for my 6620. Works fine for a while, but if you go over like 200-300 MB as you said, it starts to screw up, especially when you install a new program, or restart the phone, it gets corrupted, formatting in the phone does nothing really, because on the computer it gives you only the option of formatting it as 4.0GB with a FAT32 file system. If it was not a corrupt card, it would give you the option of formatting it with 502MB and FAT16. Exchanged it once, and the new one did the SAME THING. Right now i'm waiting to see if they can exchange it with a Kingmax 512 since i went over the 30 days refund policy.

Posted by: zandrolouie

As opposed to a few reviews I have read throughout the net this one works flawlessly on my N-Gage QD. I got it from newegg.com and it's 9mb away from being full

Posted by: sabesh

KingMax RS-MMC 512MB works well with the Nokia 6620 (package includes an MMC adaptor for use with MMC-compatible devices like the 6620).

Posted by: angel_wing0

ATP rs-mmc works well with 6620 also

Posted by: redrose1

Not sure if I'm allowed to do this but can anyone help me with my new forum at http://www.redrosemobilephones.co.uk/e/forum.php I.m trying to get it off the ground but it's hard going! You guys seem to be what I need!
Am I allowed to do this? It IS mobile phone related after all.....

yip should be able to

Posted by: angel_wing0

just tried out a 256 ATP mmcmobile on my ngage...works perfectly!

Posted by: singlung2099

To check if a card will work in the phone why don't people just check the wattage that the card uses then it should work
I've just bought a 256 DNA Pro Reduced MMC voltage 1.8-3.2v and it works fine

Posted by: angel_wing0

because not all cards work...a-data cards do not work on the QD

Posted by: illi

Confirmed compatible:
PQI 512MB on the Nokia 3620

Ok.. I'm gonna change this. It did not work so great afterall. At times, the card reader will not read the card (WinXP) and 6620 goes into an endless loop rebooting coz' of card error.

Unfortunately ATP 1GB cost $85 and Transcend or Kingmax cost $60. So, in my books, it is 40% more expensive to get ATP. 40% is too much of a premium for memory. My experience with Transcend might be an isolated case. Could be the card or the card reader. I'm sure with ATP, there are problems as well.

it is weird, no idea why it wouldn't read it or if it really is the card reader... just strange that it works fine in the phone (i can transfer stuff to it over BT from my pc) but the pc can't see it and when i plug it into the laptop it sees it and says it's not formated and can't format it. but it formats fine in the phone.

Posted by: angel_wing0

hmmm...wondering if i should get an atp 2 gb mmc now

Posted by: fee

got my 2GB magu card... works well with the 6620 although it is noticeably slower than the stock 32MB and in some rare cases, the phone would freeze when too many I/O operations are happening with the MMC card.

Posted by: angel_wing0

thanks for the input

Posted by: I[E

only time i ever get a freeze-up is when i'm listening to music and a call comes in (2.14fw)
as for the card speed , it's just as fast (if not faster) than the 1gb from topram. honestly never used the 32mb card though to make a comparison.

Just got a 512 Kingston RS MMC and it does not work for me nokia 6682. Any reason why??

Posted by: mona13

6682's have to be a DV RS MMC. I bought my 512 DV RS MMC from USAMemory.com and it works great. It's an ATP (I think).

rs mmc wont work with 6682...it takes dv rs-mmc

Posted by: manta

I just received my Kingston 512mb DV RS-MMC off eBay.
I don't need the DV, but I wanted to be a little bit future proof.

Posted by: romeo26

okay iam a noob and sry for the dumb questions:
what is does dv, mmc, and rs mean?
what is the cap(highest possible memory: like how the sony pro duo can reach 30gb) on the mmc or mini SD?
and lastly
what card type will the n80 use????

Dual Voltage Reduced Size-MultiMedia Card

Posted by: HowEver

MultiMediaCard *Plus*

Brand: ATP
Size: 1GB

(Rocks my world! Thanks for life's simpler pleasures...)

It's faster than the tiniest regular MMC.

And it works great with the Nokia 6620.

Posted by: angel_wing0

its an ATP! of cuz it will work

Posted by: iseedeadpeople

My N6680 and (2) Kinsgton 512mb DV RS-MMC works like a charm after some tweaks..

Posted by: angel_wing0

yip...it worked fine with my friend's n70 as well

Posted by: SHaubner

Anyone have trouble with Crucial RS-MMC cards? I just got a 256MB card--I can read and write to it, but get an Installer System Error when I try to install any apps to it (either using Manager or PC Suite) on my N-Gage QD. PC Suite gives message "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

Tried reformatting several times, with no luck.

I have A-Data MMCmobile 512MB

Angel, I have had my A-Data card for a week and have had no problems with it. Do you have personal experience with their cards? Both the 512 mb and the 1 gig have 5 of 5 stars at NewEgg.

Hey, no worries man. I have had my A-Data card for a week and it has been working fine. It is really hard to screw up solid state memory, regardless of what Angel says.

Posted by: Klubhead

anyone know about this card...

http://www.pricegrabber.com/rating_...64821/id_type=M

compatible the the qd?

yes i do. I m not saying that they wont work. But compare to the ATP ones, which can withstand heat, cool, water and etc (it's been proven by someone doing an experiment), not even close.

I m not saying that a-data wont work, i m just saying they are not the best. Simple as that.

I browsed through here, and tried searching, but could not find anything on the Nokia 3620. All I'm looking for is the capacity of the MMC that this phone can handle.
I have a 16MB MMC that came with the phone, but I'd like to get the biggest I can. I thought I read somewhere that it could only handle 256 or 512MB, and I'd like to get the biggest that would function reliably.

I found some on eBay that were a better price than newegg.com, so I'm thinking of getting one of these.

Any suggestions for the Nokia 3620 would be a great help.
