Can anyone tell me how is the VM prepaid service in Los Angeles area. I am thinking abot switching my mom to pre paid as she hardly use her cell phone and I am paying about $30 with all the charges and taxes and her minutes gets waisted. So I was thinking about swirching her to VM pre paid.
I can get her $20 card and she can use it up to 90 days and after 90 days I need to get her another $20 which will cost me a lot less that what I am paying ofr her service.
Please advise..
Thanks

Just check a sprint service map. Virgin mobile uses sprint's towers. I would think it would be great in socal.

I had a Sprint phone when I lived in Pasadena and it always worked fine. I assume VM would be the same. LA has so much sprawl that almost the entire region is covered well by Sprint.

Thank you for the reply.
I called ATT and they said it will take up to 180 to port my number to VM. I am almost sure this is not right. Can someone confirm this please.

I will be porting my moms att number to vm pre paid service and att cs told me it will take them up to 180 days to port it over to vm. This cant be true.

Yeah, that 180 days sounds bogus. I've heard of varying degress of success with porting, but I think people do seem to have the most trouble with ATT of all carriers.
On the other hand, some people seem to get it ported within a matter of hours. So it's a gamble. You might want to ask VM for a time estimate because you would initiate the porting by calling VM, not ATT.
