I'll be doing the work tonight. Just wondering.

Can you rate the difficulty from 1 easy to 5 hard.

I am not doing this to replace the housing, but to get the left arrow button to work again. Someone on this board mentioned they did this, since he was experiencing the same problem. And he said that after taking off the housing & doing something to the keys, the key started working again.

I have the t6 screwdriver, I have the pliers. No anti-static mat, but I'll use anti-static plastic. Should be okay.

I've downloaded the pics & printed hardcopies to follow to take the housing apart.

I tightened my slide, which is a few steps from completely taking it apart. But it wasn't terribly difficult, I'd give it a 3.

I've taken my sl56 apart this evening. The one poster that difficulty rating is a 3 is quite right. One thing that has been failed to mention, if you do take the sl56 apart, you will need 2 differen torx screw drivers. A T6 & T4. I was scrambling this afternoon looking for a T4, found one at the local cell store. I borrowed it for the evening. The directions that have been posted to taking the sl56 apart a close to being perfect. Only a couple items I had to figure out, since the pics don't do any justice on how to really do the job.

After all that work, taking the sl56 apart twice; the left arrow key still does not work. I gave it the good ol' college try & pretty much came to the conclusion that I'll just have to live w/ the fact that the left arrow key is not going to work.

So w/ that, I am NOT buying or supporting Siemens anymore.

2 for me ... pretty easy. Toughest part was
a) getting the T4 driver
b) removing the two halves of the phone.

I was able to correct my "bad left key" problem by putting it back together. But before doing so, I gave the phone a really good dusting. especially where the PCB touches the contact sheet, which touches the keypad.

I got the left arrow button to work again, Yay!!!! I took it apart for the third time, & I lifted the white portion of the arrow key. I gently removed it part way & used a cotton swab & 90% alcohol to wipe the contacts. I put the SL56 back together again, and to my surprise, the left arrow is working again. I also tightened the slide in the process. Now my phone feels wholesome & new again!

Now I like Siemens again...........
