Verizon Banner GONE on my NEW 8900

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Auracon

Guys-

I just received my new CDM-8900 via mail.

I don't have the problem with flashing Verizon Banner on the outer LCD or in the inner LCD also. I guess there has been updates to firmwares (meaning mine must have come with the new software.)

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

S/W: T095VEDT20_0.189
H/W: TX-95C_REV_02

Have a good day people!

I have identical HW and SW versions...

....and I do have the annoying flashing banner

FYI the flashing Verizon on the out side screen is from a certain chip/IC Verizon installed after Audiovox made it. Glad Verizon is listening to us that we do not want it. Check my post for more info called "8600 update to fix problems?" on this page.

It's not an extra "chip" in the phone. The software is what controls the flashing... along with the eri file. The person who got this new phone, can you tell us what the ERI Version of your phone is? It's under settings, system, PRL ID. Thanks

Auracon, alexosten, what calling plans do you have?
(America's Choice, Local, ??)

Hi,

I have America's Choice plus 20 pix per month

Howdy, Alex

Well if you have the A/C plan, then your phone is using the flashing indicator to let you know that you're in their preferred rate area. Which means you don't get charged for roaming or long distance. If it's solid, then you're outside the A/C preferred area and you get charged the going roaming rate (.69c..?).

Don't know why they didn't set it up the other way around, 'cause it would be a lot less irritating.

America's Choice

Also, there's some threads here on these forums that show you how to get rid of the flashing indicator with a data cable and software.

Hi,

yes, I saw all the postings about using the LG VX6000 data cable, but I've also read about the problems with it. So, my question is has anyone tried this (http://www.rpiwireless.com/xcart/cu...040&cat=0&page=) cable.

It's supposed to work with bitpim in a few week and doesn't seem to have the problems described in this forum.

Let me know what you think

Alex

PRI: 50150
ERI: 50018

I do not have the flashing banner.

(BTW, I have the local digital plan. It may be that it only flashes for people with A/C plans?)

I think that's the way it works, unfortunately.

I have no banner on my new 8900. I have the nationwide no-roaming plan (can't remember the name - higher than America's Choice). and it's always on roam, even though i have the latest PRL. The guy at the verizon store thought it was weird, but i have no complaints.

Posted by: neomuzic

I wonder if you got my 8900 or someone elses 8900 that we removed the banner and forgot to fix the roaming icon that would continously reboot.

I had to exchange mine because it kept rebooting..

i have same ERI, same H/W, and smae S/W versons...just
PRI: 50152

and i have the "verizon" on the outside every 5 seconds

whats PRL or ERI ? my PRL is 50152 with A/C and it has the verizon banner crap. i see a wide veritey of PRL #s that have differing banner results... could it have something to do with plan and location?

my old 9150 has the VZW banners and the PRL is 50096 ERI 50018

does this mean anything?

again whats PRL and ERI?

what would changing the PRL do to your phone(besides get rid of the banner)? say if i change mine from 152 to 150 would that mess up my America's choice features? tell me i'm roaming when im not supposed to be or whatever.. also why is it ONLY on audiovox phones!?

Posted by: kirksucks

ok.. so PRL (Preferred Roaming List)

The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of a digital phone. It lists the frequency bands the phone can use in various parts of the country. (The smaller bands within Cellular or PCS.)

The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. For example, say you had a Sprint PCS phone, and were travelling in an area with no Sprint coverage, weak Verizon coverage, and strong Qwest coverage. The PRL would tell the phone to look for towers using Sprint's band for that area. Finding none, it might tell the phone to search for towers in Verizon's band next, perhaps because Sprint's roaming agreement with Qwest was not as favorable, or none existed. The phone would use Verizon's towers, as dictated by the PRL, even though Qwest might provide a better signal.

...ERI

Enhanced Roaming Indicator.

A handset/PRL feature to indicate to a participating customer whether they are on a home system, a partner network, or a foreign (roaming) network. ERI capable handsets, when loaded with the proper software and PRL, will illustrate the home or roam condition using a banner with text on the handset display. While many phones can indicate home vs. roaming via an icon, ERI phones can clearly indicate the third "partner network" status, which may carry a different rate schedule.

so im guessing like someone said before.. if you *228 to update software you'll get the recent PRL and stuck with the banners again.. dam verizon. thats why audiovox made the "R" icon

i wonder if there will be a NEWER update soon for americas choicers that turns off the banner roaming thing. stupid idea.. and i wouldnt mind not being able to personalise my banner... but refering to the outside screen .. it inhibits the functions of the phone.

thanks for reading my long post.
