Changing ESN to another handset

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: willzok

For any techs that may be around...is there a way to move a good ESN from a defective handset to another handset? Thanks in advance.

no, the esn is phone specific and stays with the phone it was given to.

Only the manufacturer's PST can change the ESN in a phone, and they do not give out this tool.

It might not help willzok anyway. I'm not sure that he has a Kyocera phone.

i think he meant, is it possible to change the firmware. the esn is just a means of identifying revised sliders.

Yes, those are illegal pirated copies of the phone maker's software, or hacks that will void your warranty.

Not necessarily, Sprint for example, will only allow handsets that match ESNs they sell, similar to several other carriers. So, it is necessary to clone the phone to match another's ESN if you want to activate it on many carriers.
