Lg Vx4500 Wap - How I Did It!!!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: crpngdth2001

Downloaded and installed Now.WAP Proxy from link . Changed settings as follows:

Proxy Server Settings:

HTTP TAB:
Check "Enable HTTP (WAP 2) Proxy"
HTTP Proxy Port 9201

Check "Allow SSL/TLS Tunnel to non standard ports"

Phone Settings:

Proxy Address - Your Server IP
Proxy Port - 9201
Proxy LXL Port - 25
Homepage:http://wap.yahoo.com

I think the key is the proxy LXL port, the default was 0443, which is the standard HTTP SSL/TLS Port. Using "Allow SSL/TLS Tunnel to non standard ports" allowed me to use 25, the standard SMTP port.

Can someone else confirm this works for them? It works fine here. ENJOY!

Posted by: twm

Works fo me too.

Posted by: crpngdth2001

Anyone else? Looks like free WAP for the VX4500 is here!

Posted by: twm

So how did you figure it out?

Posted by: lv1

That software is trialware, right?

Posted by: valvo23

works for me too!!

Posted by: twm

it is a trial, but I feel better that it works. The only problem is my zone alarm fire wall blocks it, It come in with a new IP every time, so it makes me allow it eveytime. Not good if I'm not at the PC. I sure I'm doing something wrong.

Posted by: lothere

When you wrote

Proxy Address - Your Server IP

do you mean the ip you obtain from running ipconfig on the machine where now.wap proxy is installed?

Thanks

Posted by: strict 9

Awesome! Can't believe it was that simple. Thanks for figuring it out!

Posted by: crpngdth2001

Yes, the ip from ipconfig on the machine you install the proxy on.

Posted by: Acuraz

Wow Great man Works Great for me!! I am a newbie to this stuff too. ANyone Know how much this software cost to buy 30 days is not long

Posted by: vashwood

I get connection timed out. Here's the thing. When I am on dialup and I run nowwap my 4500 is able to connect to wap.yahoo.com. Everything works good on dialup

But when I'm using my dsl I can't connect.
Here it is...say my public ip is 67.21.2.293 and the computer thats running NowWap has the private IP of 192.168.2.101
I forward ports 9201 and 25 to 192.168.2.101
and I put 67.21.2.293 on the vx4500. But I get connection timed out. Am I missing anything here?

Posted by: crpngdth2001

How is the phone and gateway setup?

Posted by: vashwood

It's both setup exactly like this
Proxy Server Settings:

HTTP TAB:
Check "Enable HTTP (WAP 2) Proxy"
HTTP Proxy Port 9201

Check "Allow SSL/TLS Tunnel to non standard ports"

Phone Settings:

Proxy Address - Your Server IP
Proxy Port - 9201
Proxy LXL Port - 25
Homepage:http://wap.yahoo.com

Only problem is when I use DSL. It's fine w/ dialup

Posted by: vashwood

maybe theres something else I have to do with the router?

Posted by: flexia

do you have to have use nowwap or can you use wap3gx. I would try it but i don't have the phone, my friend wants hooked up with free wap.

Posted by: twm

All I did was forward port 9201 to my pc running WAP program. My fire wall software would block me, so I had to allow it to connect, each time I would start a new session I had to do this becuase it had a defferent IP.

Posted by: valvo23

On my router I just opened up TCP port 9201 for my private IP that the software was installed on, just as you have done, and that did the trick. Can you bypass your router for testing purposes ?

Posted by: crpngdth2001

Bad news on the cost of the portal once the 30 days expires - $1,400 for 5 concurrent user license, which is the minimum!

Posted by: twm

That's high! Hey all you guys send me the money and I will set up a gateway. Trust me....... ha
Well anyway we know that the 4500 can do WAP now, we just got to find other programs that will work.

Posted by: wap-jockey

I did everything as described, but when I run the browser, I get the message: "Error: Connection to server lost" (If the firewall were blocking the traffic, it would be a timeout error).

I know the message is getting through my NetGear firewall/router (connection--comcast cable modem), because I see a log entry for port 9201 traffic. I have the gateway running as a service, but I get the same error whether it's running or not, so I suspect that it's not accepting or responding for some reason. I have both port 25 and 9201 open in the firewall/router.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Also, I'm a little confused about the port 25 LXL thing, since there's no mention of dealing with port 25 in the gateway.

Posted by: klingger

sorry but where do you plug in these these wap settings into the phone?

Posted by: wap-jockey

Please disregard my previous post--for some reason, it works now

Posted by: mdphilps

I can't find where to put the "phone settings" at on the phone....can some please help me....THANKS!!!

Posted by: valvo23

1. Go to Menu
2. Hit 0
3. service Code = 000000
4. hit 9 for WAP Setting
5. enter proxy Address - Your public IP
6. enter proxy port - 9201
7. enter proxy lxl port - 25

Posted by: mdphilps

Thanks Valvo23!!!

What proxy is everyone using and what settings are you using for that proxy?

Thanks

Posted by: nabeel

it works! thanks

quick question: does it cut out of airtime minutes? do they deduct minutes if i use it during my unlimited nights/weekends?

Posted by: wap-jockey

the minutes seem to be treated the same as voice calls would be.

Posted by: nabeel

ah, gotcha...thanks

Posted by: mrmaster

My WAP hasn't worked for me for like 2 weeks. I guess no one has figured out any other proxy program yet?

Posted by: grumpp

Cox HSI blocks port 25. Is there any other port that will work?

Posted by: wap-jockey

Are you refering to the fact that NOW WAP expires in 30 days from date of install? Mine isn't expired yet and is still working fine with the 4500. You can can get more "30 day trials" by installing on other machines or reloading the OS (e.g. by using "ghost"). There must be some wap program out there which doesn't cost so much and uses non-standard ports. Anyone working on this problem?

Posted by: mrmaster

Yeah, the 30 days. I have an actual server setup at home so I'd rather not mess with it if I don't have to. It hasn't been working but I figured it was because of 1 of these reasons:

1. 30 days was up
2. My IP changed because I have a dynamic IP

Been too lazy to check!

Posted by: trend

I keep getting a "Error: Network down" msg when I try to browse. My settings are:
proxy: 207.232.99.109
port 9201
lxl port: 25
homepage: wap.yahoo.com.

I will me setting up a wap proxy on my cable modem, and I will allow anyone that helps me fix my problem use it

AIM me: theoreticalee

thanks!-lee

Posted by: mrmaster

Yeah my trial period is up. That is why my WAP don't work anymore. When I am already paying close to a 100 bucks to VZ I really don't want to pay them anymore than that.

Posted by: trend

thats cool, well can you tell me what i am doing wrong (2msgs up), i followed directions perfectly (so I think) and have tried numerous wap gateways

thanks!-lee

Posted by: mrmaster

I saw it, but I am at work so I have nothing to look at. My first question to you would be are you sure you are doing the port forwarding properly?

Posted by: trend

iprelay 9201:10.10.10.43:9201

Useing command line parameters:
local_port 9201
remote_addrs 10.10.10.43
remote_port 9201
bandwidth 0
forwarder 99 set.
-----------
yep, I can telnet into n1g.homeip.net 9201 and i see that now wap sees me as being connected.
I still don't understand the LXL part, I did setup my phone to use lxl port 25
and my server to:
"enable http (wap2) proxy)" "http proxy port 9201"

enable compression <check>
enable wtcp extensions <check>
allow ssl/tls tunnel to non-standard ports <check>

----
so recap, I can telnet into tcp 9201 port, and I can see that it is being forwarded on my router. (and other people can connect too)
however on my phone, if i try to use my server, i don't even see it connecting

thanks for any help! -Lee

yes does anyone know another option?

Posted by: mrmaster

Just did some more digging this past week and came up with zilch ideas.

Posted by: twm

I FOUND THE OLD VERS. CRACK BUT IT DID NOT WORK.

Posted by: versicle

Fairly new to this WAP thing...

I dl now.wap and used the proper settings as well as port fowarding, when no.wap is running is there anything else that needs to be open on my PC at home? Also can i set my homepage on my phone to anything, lets say tagtag.com?

Posted by: mrmaster

If you used the proper settings then the only thing to double check is to make sure you have the right ports open on your router if you have one.

Yes, any homepage will do.

Posted by: bdmurray

I recently setup my lg vx4500 phone to use my own proxy server, and everything works great. However, I did not use a wap proxy server. I was trying to setup kannel, an open source wap proxy server, and saw that my phone was trying to connect via TCP instead of UDP which is the protocol used for WAP. As you may recall the phone is originally setup to use port 8080 which is a standard port for web proxies. Subsequently, I setup a squid web proxy server, another open source project, and was able to successfully browse the internet without paying Verzion for web access. Hope that helps any vx4500 owners out there.

Posted by: mrmaster

Squid Proxy? This is an open source proxy server thing that I can download? Does it work with windows 2003 server instead of linux?

Posted by: bdmurray

I have only run squid on linux, the home page for squid is www.squid-cache.org. Looking at their web site I found this FAQ: http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-1.html#squid-NT
. Which seems to indicate there is a Windows port of it. I believe that any web proxy server would work with the phone.

Brian

Posted by: mrmaster

hmmm.

Just curious but what is the firmware version on your phone?

Posted by: sgenilon

Speaking of WAP what ever happend to that long wap thread that had a whole bunch of info in it? It seems to have disappered.

Posted by: CapPicard

Sweet! I just loaded Now.WAP in Linux via Wine. It loaded up fine.

On my router, I forwards ports 9200 and 9201 (UDP and TCP) to my machine.

To my amazement, I can surf the web on my cell phone.

I can also surf the web by connecting to Squid.

Has anyone have gotten kannel to work with a LG VX4500?

Posted by: bdmurray

I did not get kannel to work with the LG VX4500 because kannel listens for connections using UDP, while the phone connects via TCP. I have a packet trace of this if anyone really wants to see it.

Posted by: jjanszen

can you just use a ip address from like waptunnel.com ?

Posted by: jjanszen

here is the serial for now wap

Posted by: radiowave

If you are using a MSN modem it is blocking ALL ports and
must be changed to allow the ports you need.

Posted by: jellyroll713

What wireless standard do i need to use? Do I use my PC IP or my router IP?

Posted by: lhueneke

Does anyone know if this works on the VX6000, and if so, where do you go in the phone to change the proxy setting?

Luke

Posted by: mrmaster

the 6000 has their own cheat.

with the now.wap serial I can access the web for free. I get to cancel the vzw wap next. wohoo!

thanks!

Posted by: BROCKIM

where in the phone do i find this?
Phone Settings:

Proxy Address - Your Server IP
Proxy Port - 9201
Proxy LXL Port - 25
Homepage:http://wap.yahoo.com

Posted by: sminnick42

So this program, sets up a proxy server on your machine? So if I install this and use an lg vx6100 and input the ip of my machine that this program is installed on, it should work?

Just wondering cause, public proxy server ip does not last long, would like to set up a proxy of my own and this program seems easy to install.

Thanks,

Yes it will work. If you are running a firewall, You will need to configure your firewall to work with now.wap

Posted by: xem1x

how do you browse to other websites, like enter a different URL?

Posted by: MarylandVZW

I am using Mobileweb4u.com with a v710 currently but i started there with a 4500. They have full support for it and have excellent links as well as the ability to browse to other URLS.

Posted by: sm_bbcoach

OK.

I have my IP address in (and it works. Checked it with another cellphone that connects)

Ports are 9201 and 25.

tried my tagtag wap site and wap.yahoo site.

But, I can not connect. Any ideas???????

Posted by: MarylandVZW

the 4500 is a wap 2.0 phone and wap 2.0 standard uses TCP/IP where as wap 1.1 uses UDP,

Port 9201 on your server is trying to route UDP packets to your phone and the phone does not know how to handle it.

Either setup your own WAP 2.0 server (very expensive to do it legally)
Get a free http proxy (unreliable and you will have to keep finding new ones)
Get MobileWeb4U (cheap service very reliable)
Or Pay Verizon $4.99 a month ( sucks to pay the man!)

I am looking into MobileWeb4U. How do you set it up on your phone??

Also, where woudl be a good place to look for free http proxys? I had one on my last phone for 11 months, but could not find one for the wap 2.0 .

Thanks again for all your help!

Posted by: MarylandVZW

You signup for service for you specific device, and they send you setup information for your phone.

It is very simple.

As for free proxy sites I gave up on that months ago. It never worked when i needed it.

Posted by: timmerk

What's a WAP server? Is is a WAP proxy server? And if so, can you use either a normal http proxy or WAP proxy address?

I ask because there are many free http proxy servers out there.

Thanks

Posted by: MarylandVZW

it depends on your phone as to what you can and cant use.

If you are new to this you are better off paying a bit of money to some provider such as mobileweb4u which is cheap, then trying to hunt down pertinent information

Posted by: MaZiN

I'm running a router, and did all steps at the beginning of the thread but yet it still times out? Can anyone help? Thanks!

Posted by: wap-jockey

go to this website from your WAP machine:
http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2

put in custom ports 9201 and 25 & see if your firewall is letting the traffic through.

I have been able to change my IP with a proxy and surf
but I just can't figure out how to get NowWap to work
with my Linksys Wireless Router.
Keep getting time out message

KenK

Posted by: KenK

I changed my port back to 8080

I was trying this on a win98 system. Just loaded the program
onto XP.

Is there anything else like NowWap that's free?

You sure you opened up the right ports on your router and that you have those same ports listed in now.wap and your phone?

Posted by: wgplife

will this work if you get the mobile web going then connect it to a mac laptop through the connection cable? like to use the phone as a modem? im going on a road trip on wednesday and this would be a nice way to pass the time.
