Finally Faceplates for the Audiovox 8900

Posted by: neomuzic

Where did find it?

Posted by: Danariel

Wow! I second that question! Link?

Posted by: RDavis

These are faceplates company shipped to my store as well as flashing batteries for the Audiovox 8900
I was shocked I didnt Even know they had this stuff available for the Audiovox yet

Posted by: jho

I found a site where you can get them for $9.99

http://www.amco-cellular.com/audiov...faceplates.html

Posted by: neomuzic

good find

Posted by: Danariel

Thanks! That's GREAT!

Posted by: grkness

I wonder if that plain silver one is the same as the one that comes with the phone, but without that stupid Verizon logo on it, does anyone know? hard to tell, the picture quality isnt too good

Posted by: Danariel

Do you actually have to take the phone apart to put the faceplate on, or does it fit over the existing one?

Posted by: grkness

for there to be a clear one, so u can see the inner electronics and what not, that means you have to take it apart and take off old one :|

Posted by: acf

I'd imagine it fits over it.

I like the silver one as well. I've already nicked up the edge of my phone so I could cover that up as well as the Verizon logo.

Posted by: Pack

If you flip open the phone, there are little tiny cross slotted screws hidden underneath the two rubber bumpers on the corners of the screen part of the phone. And, there are the same size screws under the two little round points between the screen and the hinge. Just get a pin and pry up the little round hole covers which expose the screw heads.

So perhaps you have to undo these four screws in order to take the old cover off and attach the new one of your choice.

Posted by: jho

If they're not just covers that will be awesome cause i will get the smoke ones. Hopefully they will have the whole shell of the phone available instead of just the face. Also i'm surprised no one is making holsters for the phone that you don't have to take the phone out to answer it. I ended up modifying mine so that i can open it with it still in the holtser. A dremel and a heat gun are great tools to have laying around.

Posted by: Danariel

Ok, I just ordered two. We'll see in a few days!

Posted by: uyt

I also ordered two yesterday so i'll also let everyone know

Posted by: mizterboston

I wasn't to thrilled with the ones I saw. Maybe they look better in person

Posted by: uyt

Well, I got the two faceplates that I ordered, you DO have to unscrew the cover. There are four screws, two at top (under little rubber pieces), and two on the bottom in between the hinges and the screen(these are not however rubber pieces, they are stickers, so be very careful taking these out). I thought it was a little more difficult then switching out faceplates on my old t730. it can be done though. I am attaching a couple of pictures, taken with vx6000, not that great of quality(sorry) but just so everyone gets a better idea of what it looks like. The pictures are taken with the clear faceplate on. It is hard to tell but when the phone is filpped open, there are green lights that shine around the circuit board. Looks pretty neat. I attached this link http://www.amco-cellular.com/audiov...faceplates.html
again for easier access in case any of you are interested. Just a little FYI !

Posted by: uyt

Here is the second pic:

Posted by: Danariel

Crap, my two still haven't made it. Soon, I hope.

Posted by: uyt

I ordered mine on the tenth and just got them today, so you should recieve yours fairly soon I would think.

Posted by: pocketboi

I just got my smoke out one today!

Posted by: KPT

I'm assuming these are only covers for the front, and don't come with a cover for the battery, am I correct?

Posted by: uyt

yeah, just the front

Posted by: LooNTooNs

Do They come with the glas that covers the outside LCD. I Broke it already.

Posted by: uyt

I believe it is plastic, but yes. The whole front faceplate is replaced.

Do the stickers reattach, and do they stay in place? Or do they look like they will possibly come back off on their own?

Posted by: marcuscameron68

i just ordered 2 myself

the stickers can be taken off fairly easily with a pin and appear to have a plyable adhesive on them

im guessing they will be fine

will post back when mine arrive

Posted by: uyt

the stickers go back on fairly easy, but I imagine if they are taken off too many times they will not stay on very well. So I would keep it to a minimum, and they will stick to whatever you put them on (adhesive side down) so try to keep the adhesive facing up.

Posted by: Devilz

man.. i wish they had the back plates too.... it would just look weird with only the faceflate..

Posted by: Danariel

Hmmm, mine still aren't here. Kinda ticked.

Posted by: Danariel

Posted by: eNaZy

They came out with new styleZ
pretty nice stuff, anyone know if the flashing antennas and battery would work with the audiovox 8900 from TELUS ?

im goin to get my 8900 BACK! :P

Posted by: LooNTooNs

O ordered 2 faceplates from this site. STILL havent gotten them!!!! I placed the order about a week and a half ago and ordered them rush for $17, which I assumed was next day shipping. I finally got a hold of there # and found out they shipped one, the other is on BO. But there RUSH shipping is priority US postal Svc. Which is like $3. and takes the same amount of time to cross the country!!!!

Posted by: Ruthless Brad

Has anyone ordered the plain silver/gray one yet? I too would like to know if it is the same as the one that comes with the phone, but w/o the logo. If not I'll order one and report back. My goal is to eliminate all Verizon logos!

Posted by: samjam

I ordered some faceplates for the 8900 on EBAY on Thursday morning from Aaccessories. I ordered silver (like verizon standard without logo) and clear. I got back on Saturday from a trip and they were in my mailbox. I installed them in about 10 minutes and they fit fine. I think they were 3.99 each with about $7.50 shipping. They came from California and got to Tennessee in two days. The guy shipped the same day. Hope that helps!

Posted by: Danariel

Got mine finally a couple-three days ago, had to borrow my Dad's teeny tiny screwdriver set, but I've got the Royal Blue one on, and it looks REALLY cool with the blue flashing lights on the top sides. At least they're here now.

Posted by: justin_vt

pix?

and are they snap on, or -- as the screwdriver implies -- replacements?

Posted by: Danariel

Pics? Pics have already been posted. Yep, they are replacements, and I had to pry the old one off pretty hard, too.

The lights I'm talking about are the blue lights on the top/sides of the phone that blink when it rings, not anything extra added by me.

Posted by: Ruthless Brad

I just got the plain silver cover from Aaccessories on eBay. It is not the same as the original silver Verizon cover. The gray is a little bit lighter and less shiny. There is also less shiny chrome around the LCD. I'll just stick with the original Verizon cover for now.

Posted by: SeoulRacer

here's my contribution. translucent blue

Posted by: Devilz

any more pix?? maby from differnt angles and with the phone open?

Posted by: SeoulRacer

Posted by: Devilz

thats pretty nice.. i just wish there was just a back plate to match..

Would you say the quality of the material is the same or does it feel cheaper?

SeoulRacer : thats definetly the best looking ones ive seen yet.
is that the T-Dr Blue one from the link earlier in the thread....

It seems a little cheaper. The chrome part immediately around the LCD isn't as smooth or shiny. You can also see a small gap at the top of the chrome part. The rest of the faceplate is a little glossier than the original Verizon one.

Posted by: acf

Same material/weight though?

The material seems to be about the same, maybe a little less durable. The lcd cover is lighter plastic than the original one for sure, im happy though!

Hello, I have been reading this forum for quite a while now, and I'm impressed with the information that I have found here. I have found another place to buy the faceplate, and other accessories for the audiovox 8900, I have bought items from them allready and have not had a problem with them, in fact I just odered yesterday the blue transparent faceplate for my phone from them, my thanks go to SeoulRacer for taking those pictures, it convinced me to get the faceplate. ok so here is the link -

http://www.daydeal.com/audiovox

Anyways I look forward to reading more info and hopefully being able to help someone else, thanks

Posted by: zanth

Hi back again, just got my faceplate from daydeal.com and replaced it with the verizon. It went pretty easy, the old one was a little hard getting it off, but it looks good now. let me know what you think

Posted by: zanth

Hi let's try this again

Hope this works this time

Posted by: acf

Looks good. New antenna too?

Posted by: zanth

Hi yes I replaced the antenna with a telescopic one that extends to about 3.0", i got the antenna and the faceplate and other stuff at www.daydeal.com - they are in CA but they have free shipping and it only takes about 3-4 days to get to MA. so far I hav'nt had any problems with them. Thanks,

Posted by: Jay5gen

How sturdy does your new face plate feel...
I purchased the clear-blue from Amco-Cellular, and it felt a little weak to me, but i used it anyway...

Then a couple days a go I had it in the holster, and bumped a doorknob. Thing split right in half... peice a crap. The factory face plate put up with alot more abuse than that and its still fine.

Posted by: zanth

Hi, the face plate seems to be pretty sturdy, after I put the screw's back in, it felt almost the same. I will say that the verizon case is more solid I think because the center piece is glass unlike the Blue faceplate which is all plastic. I usaully carry my phone in a leather case, but this time I'm using the swivel clip by Body Glove,(I think this phone is so cool that I could't hide it in a case!!) so I'm praying that I won't bang into anything!

Hope this help's you

Posted by: vice86

THose cheap things are junk...they only last a couple months till they're all scuffed up and paint is chipping off.

Posted by: Devilz

are there any Canadian sites that have these?

Why did you buy it there?

Don't you guys check out eBay first?:rolleyes2

check out the price on Day-Deal's eBay listing of the CLEAR BLUE FACEPLATE...

(Also interesting:
"Item location: Los Angeles, CA " )

It's probably the EXACT SAME one, minus $10.
Shipping is $5, tho.

eBay stores are better.
:laughs:

That's why you buy several of the cheap ones off eBay, so when one breaks, you have a spare. They're so cheap, you could buy 2 off eBay for the price of one in a regular store.

eBay stores are better.
:laughs:

So...what you're saying is that eBay stores are better?

Yes, for buying those cheap faceplates.

I remember doing that with the old Nokia 3390 that everyone-and-their-mom had...

Those faceplates do break pretty easily (which explains why they're only $4 on eBay -- cheap plastic).

If you can find some cool faceplates with glass windows in them, I'm sure they will be made of stronger plastic and last A LOT longer.

They'll be a bit more expensive, though.

Posted by: Synergie1

I was told that if your phone is still under Warranty, that changing faceplates (since they are not just snap-on) it will void the Warranty. Anyone else been told this?

Posted by: zanth

Hi the reason I bought the faceplate at daydeal.com because I allready had been doing business with them ie- Antenna, case's,...and I have not had any problems with them, I only paid 11.99 for the faceplate free shipping included and it did come from CA, I ordered it, received it in 4 days!!. I also am an ebay member, but my dealings with a lot of the sellers have left me with a sour taste and whoever said they were crap, and that the paint peels off I don't know what case your talking about because mine is clear blue plastic - ah no paint that I can see and so far has been doing just fine. I guess it is just personal perference. I love my phone know that I have modified it

Posted by: thePhallex

Yeah, I've seen how the paint wears off of those cheap third-party faceplates. It doesn't take long. I got one of those blue slide-action faceplates for my old Nokia phone and the paint wore off within a month.

They're cheap -- the paint isn't the best quality and neither is the plastic.

I'm sure you can't drop your phone from about waist-high without it cracking and breaking the plastic.

This wouldn't happen with the factory faceplate.

Also, I've noticed A LOT of dust gets inside the cracks of those cheap things. The factory ones must be sealed better.

Posted by: thePhallex

Does that clear blue faceplate light up at all?

(like from the light that's for the subscreen...)

Ch rs

Posted by: zanth

Hi, yes a couple of tiny lights do show up when I get an incoming message or hit the side button, at night it's really cool

Posted by: egruber

I have the same blue faceplate, and it's pretty sturdy. I've dropped the phone a couple of times with no problems...even on concrete. However, the plastic clear window loosened up just enough so that it vibrates when the ringtones are played. A little annoying, but that's it.

Posted by: thePhallex

I just got that faceplate also. I like it because it's a lot more glossy than the stupid silver one.

These phones have the smallest f--king screws I've ever seen. They're about the size of small laptop screws, maybe smaller.
So when replacing the face, you will need the smallest philips-head screwdriver you can find -- the best ones to use are the screwdrivers that are made for eyeglasses/sunglasses.

Once you get all 4 screws out, it will be VERY hard to pry off -- it might feel like your about to break it. [BE CAREFUL! The clear blue faceplate doesn't look as cool when the color screen is broken.]
I got my original faceplate off by runnnig my fingernails along the sides, once I got one corner-edge lifted up. That made it easier and easier to take off.

Dust off the components and the new faceplate, and pop it in!

REMEMBER : The parts are A LOT easier to replace than when you remove them.

Posted by: zanth

Hi I just thought I would let you all know that I also have dropped mine but suffered no damage I will also say that it is a little tricky getting off the original one but if your carefull you'll have no problem. It looks like everyone is changing to Blue, so I ordered a Chrome finish one, and will take some new pic's when it comes in Just wondering "thePhallex" what do you think about the case and the way it light's up??

Posted by: thePhallex

IMO, it's worth the $4.00 it costs on eBay.
(But not the additional $6.50 for shipping.)

The lights don't really impress me. It just lights up the mainboard from behind... What I DO like is that now I can see the little "face open" light in the top-right corner that lights up when you open the phone.

I DO recommend this upgrade for the phone. It makes it more personal.

I would like to see a "chameleon" paint or something that would change colors depending on the angle of light you're looking at it. (And it would be cool to see it WITHOUT the GAY PURPLE that most chameleon-paint stuff has in it...)

Posted by: TKS_CO

Hey all,

I just found another website selling faceplates for the 8900 for $2.50 each:

http://www.sunchamp.com/retail/cata...p?cPath=305_430

I haven't ordered from them but if I end up keeping my 8900 I probably will. With all the fun I've had with Verizon I am sure not going to advertise for them with my phone!

Posted by: TKS_CO

Hmm, for some reason that first link I posted only shows the solid-colored faceplates. Here's the link that shows all of the designs as well: http://www.sunchamp.com/retail/cata...ath=305_430_431

Posted by: schwarz2

what was shipping on that last one? it doesn't show you the shipping price until you register. (i realize shipping might be different for different areas, but what was it for you?).... thanks a bunch! =)

Posted by: TKS_CO

In their general info page (http://www.sunchamp.com/retail/catalog/shipping.php), it says the shipping charges are based on weight and start at $5.95. I can't imagine the faceplates weigh anything much, so I'd guess $5.95 is about what they'd charge.

However, if you need more than just a faceplate, or you want to have choices, shipping is free on orders over $10.

Posted by: acl88

I really think the stock faceplate is ALRIGHT, as i like the chrome bezel.. only if the telus logo was replaced with something from LGtelecomm or another PD-K600 varient from South Korea..

anyways, instead of doing the faceplate change, i went one step further.........

notice anything?

Posted by: Frazzums

hmm, is that suspose to be that dark blue?

Posted by: jamski88

How does the faceplate come off on the 8900?
-- UPDATE: Nevermind. I saw the other posts.

What do you mean by "flipped the LCD over"...?

If you did that, wouldn't you be looking at the back of some computer chip or wouldn't the letters be backwards or something??

How can this be done? I'm sure that would actually look pretty cool w/ the clear blue faceplate.

I must try it and find out.

How do you do this?

thx.

Posted by: slimrob

Im sorry I dint mean LCD I meant the polorized lens that covers the LCD. The lens makes it so you can see the numbers. I dont know for sure if thats what he did. Im just speculating because I have done something similar in the past (not on a cell phone though).

I think he used bitPim to change the hex values for the system colors.

Although, how would it get that blue? The normal sub-screen is in shades of grey...

maybe it is this calculator idea of yours...

I'm so confused I am going to explode.

Give us a hint, acl88 -- Did you have to use a data cable or a screwdriver to do this modification?

(or maybe he just made it in Photoshop...)

Posted by: slimrob

Well I know when I did it on calculaters it would make the back ground dark with light numbers (instead of vise versa). Just a thought... I too would like to know exactly what he did.

Posted by: acl88

wow, i didn't think it would cause that much excitement.

OK, well what was done was the calculator mod. I researched it online first and i will include some of the links here. (just google, "invert lcd")

I am not sure why it turned out as blue as it did. I think its a combination of 1. the specific spectrum of new polarizing film, 2. the nature of the lcd itself, 3. ambiant light.

WARNING, this renders the lcd only 50%-75% as readable as it was previously because it is generally darker.
********all the pics shown here are explicitly with the backlight on*********

I took the face plate off the phone, (kinda hard, but just gotta be gentle), then VERY VERY CAREFULLY stripped the old LCD of its original polarizing tape. THIS IS EXTREMELY DELICATE, as the lense doesn't seem to be secured to anything on the phone itself. its just a glass lense that may be attached on a single side (didn't pull it far enough to find out!!) but one slip and should the LCD crack, ur up the creek. This and the fact that the ORIGINAL FILM is EXTREMELY sticky. It takes a serious amount of patience getting this off, THEN getting the adhesive off the glass lcd itself. spend a good 45 mins on this to do it right.

Then get some decent polarizing film, it was $1.50 at a local science, educational store, and cut to fit and place on. I lucked out and there was a peel off adhesive right on the sheet.

When you are done, it should look similar to this, but with whiter letters and a more navy-blue background, not florecent blue.. my cameras white balance is off.

I ordered two faceplates, a flashing battery and an antenna for my phone on DayDeal.com and put Overnight Shipping on it. When should I expect it to come in... it's wednesday. I just read the page receipt and had second thoughts.

Posted by: flippinthephone

I'm not sure, by I think the screwdriver is faulty, I had to use another one.

The screws come out easily on first try.. and it didn't take long for the plate to come off. Flip the phone and dig your fingernail at the top faceplate spot where the hinge would meat the case. If you get what I'm saying.. that's about the easiest way to remove it.

I also ordered a very nifty antenna and a flashing white battery.

Well worth it.

Plus, I also ordered the hemp leaf in black cover but it was out of stock. I will have to order that next time but rest assure I will continue ordering from them.

I paid 23 dollars for Overnight Shipping on June 16th, on June 17 it shipped from El Monte, California and on June 18, it made it to Tylertown Mississippi around 11:00 A.M. They are a very good choice!

Jeez!

You could've gotten more antennae/faceplates with the money you spent because you HAD to have it within a few days!!

I think it would've been more worth it to buy a few more things and wait a few extra days.

I bought my antenna from eBay for $5 and I waited 1 week for it. And all I spent was the $5.
($1.99 for the item, the rest for shipping.)

Posted by: AstoKreep2000

How do you get the bottom screws off, those things covering them seem to be solid. Also, where can I find screwdrivers that small. I found an eyeglasses kit, but it only had a flathead driver in it.

Posted by: zanth

Hi, flippinthephone, I'm glad you got your stuff from daydeal, how's the flashing battery? Any Pic's? also I generally use normal shipping, and I get my stuff from Ca to Ma in about 5 days, sometimes only 4, I think that's pretty good. I myself am an impatient person sometimes and hate to wait, but 4 or 5 days I can live with for free shipping, did you buy the screwdriver at daydeal.com also?
thanks,

If you just go to your local hardware store and show them the screw or the phone with the screws, they'll give you the hobby screwdriver that'll work. And as for the 2 bottom screws, they're just covered by small flat plastic circles with adhesives. Just try to gently slip it off with your nail, and it should slide right off.

I've had the flashing battery for 2 months now, and it's great. Sometimes it just has a mind of it's own and flashes whenever it wants to, as opposed to flashing when you recieve calls or messages or anything, but most of the time, if you correctly charge your phone, it'll work fine. I got the white flashing battery, and I love it. Got myself a few faceplates too, the carbon fiber, chrome (same as what zanth has), honey red, and the transparent blue. I'll try to get some pics up.

Posted by: Krome

Sorry for the poor quality, not exactly up to date with the $300 digi cams out there

I don't know if the pix'll help, but it'll give you a rough idea. The white one makes me feel like I'm in rave sometimes. If you're in a dark-lit restaurant and the battery becomes alive...the waiter said it looked like I was having a mini-rave at our table.

As for the faceplates, I got the clear blue one from daydeal, along with the battery, but the others I just got from Aaccessories on ebay. They're really good, great with shipping.

Yes, I learned my lesson there. It really isn't worth it. I'm new to these things and thought it would be here the next day. Two day shipping seems okay, but next time I order, I will get more for less (haha).

I will try to get my cousin's Camera and take pictures of my phone for you guys, I think it looks good.

Posted by: flippinthephone

These are rough Images, I had to resize them which I'm not good at.

I have the smoke gray transparent faceplate. I have a chrome antenna and the white flashing battery.

I will get a LOT more stuff next time.

Posted by: sellfone

Last tuesday I purchased a clear blue faceplate and a small chrome cap antenna from DayDeals (through eBay), and both arrived today (California to Virginia, standard shipping). Installed, they both look awesome. I chose the small antenna to replace the extendable antenna that comes stock with the CDM8900 because I find it annoying to keep in a pocket with that extra inch sticking out of the top. The new antenna is only 5mm and reception seems about the same, so it was defintely a good purchase and fits much better in your pocket.

I also foolishly tried to invert the external LCD because those images look extremely impressive. However, either my tools were not fine enough or my work was not delicate enough, because I ended up slightly cracking the connected side of the LCD (the LCD screen itself is free on three sides and connected to the phone on the bottom side). I put a small crack through the bottom connection, and the external LCD now only displays the bottom 5/8 of the screen (enough to display the time and date but will not display the top info bar). It's not a major problem, now I just have to flip open the phone to view all the settings. In other words, I'm not going to buy a new phone over it, but I'd be willing to pay for a replacement LCD. I know that other phones can replace external LCDs, but am not so sure about the CDM8900. Is anyone aware of replacement external LCDs for the 8900? I plan to visit the nearest Verizon Wireless store tomorrow, but it's a half hour away. Should I go in and tell them the truth, or could I get by with saying I dropped it...? I plan to put back the stock faceplate and antenna before I go in, any other suggestions?

if u say that you opened the phone.. that viods the warrenty and they will not do anything about it.. and probably make you pay for the repair.

if you say you dropped it, the repair might be free.. i don;t know how these things work in the states..

...... OH CRAP...........

yikes, this was exactly what i was afraid of doing when i did mine, as the lcd is litterally a slice of glass thats totally suspended in its little metal frame on the backside of the color main lcd.

if anything, return everything back to stock ASAP and try to conceal any signs that the phone has been opened/tampered with and don't even say you dropped it. just say you charged it and after charging this is what happened.

hello manufactures defect.

when you get your new one, try again.. i hope for good results!

well the only sign that the faceplate has been removed and that the phone has been tampered with (beside the tiny crack along the bottom of the LCD) is a slight lack of black paint on the head of the screws from the screwdriving. But I don't think anyone would notice that unless they were already suspicious.

I think that saying that it was like that when I bought it is the best option, but I've had the phone for almost two months. I guess I could say that I didn't know that it was supposed to display the top bar on the external LCD until now, so I didn't know anything was wrong. The thing is I'm willing to pay any replacement fee short of buying a whole new phone - it serves me right - but I'm afraid that if I tell them I messed with it they won't even bother trying to help.

I am thinking of doing this (but without breaking it).

I have a few questions:

1) Do you think it would be possible to hold on to the LCD screen with one hand, while you are prying the polarizing film off with an EXACTO knife in the other hand?? (so the screen won't move and crack while you're prying the stuff off it)

2) How long were you trying to do this? (I heard that you must have LOTS of patience. I wouldn't care if it took an hour, as long as I was careful.)

3) How much pressure did it take to crack it / How easy will it break?

Hello... ?

Can anyone answer the questions I posted above?

well I just returned from my local verizon wireless store with unexpected success. I took in my phone (with the half-broken external LCD), showed it to the tech rep, and he rather quickly replaced the whole phone, no questions asked. He was able to transfer my phone book to the new CDM8900, but my pictures and ringtones were lost - not a big deal. I was going to ask him about removing the annoying Verizon Wireless message on the phone, but there were quite a few individuals waiting in line behind me so I decided not to. However, when I got in my car I noticed that the new phone did not have the Verizon Wireless banner at all, and I was able to see for the first time my customized greeting message on the itnernal display. An incredible fix I assume thanks to updated software.

I returned home and once again put on my clear blue faceplate and steel cap antenna, and I'm about to start sending some ringtones to the new phone. I'm still debating over whether or not to try to invert the LCD, but I don't think I will any time soon.

thePhallex,
1) acl88 may be more helpful with this question than I - but I personally wouldn't lift the screen out at all to hold it. Try prying off the film with it flat in it's bed.
2/3) The reason I cracked the LCD was that I was under the impression that the glass component was seperate from the blue rectangular objects on the southern side of the screen. My idea was to pry out the entire glass LCD and then take off the film when it was completely removed from the phone. However, when I tried to remove the glass screen, I noticed too late that the object was attached to the phone, and I had already applied enough pressure (a considerable amount) to slightly crack the blue object below the screen, which damaged the display.

yeah, that's what I meant -- hold it in place w/ one hand, and remove film w/ the other.

Ah! Excellent description. Thank you.

Carbon Fibre from Daydeal. Quality is not as good as the stock faceplate, but definately passable. No serious flaws, and seems to be holding up well so far. I also have the stubby steel antenna.

The flashing battery, its it some thing attaches to the stock battery? Or it replaces the stock battery completely?

Thank you.

Hi guys

Great forum you have here - very helpful and informative

I would really like to get my hands on a few of those face plates, especially the chrome and transparent blue ones - they look very nice.

Problem is, I am in New Zealand. How would you guys suggest I go about getting the face plates? I guess ebay is an option, but I've never used it (or Pay Pal) before. Any other alternatives?

Cheers
Kanz

You're right, I'd think your best bet would have to be e-bay or daydeal. If you're willing to just wait out on auctions, then I'd suggest ebay over Daydeal, since they are a alot more expensive as opposed to the ebay auctions. I highly recommend Aaccessories http://search.ebay.com/8900-facepla...sosortpropertyZ . Shipping rate for international orders are just $1 more than U.S. orders. I understand that you've never used paypal or e-bay before, but there's a first for everything.

You might want to wait for some other member's opinions in reguards to alternative options, they probably know more than I do.

Thanks for that Krome

I have another question:

I have noticed on ebay there are several different users selling the transparent blue face plates. Do you think they are all the same product? They all claim to be made from "the highest quality" but in my experience 'high quality after market face plates' are an oxymoron

I don't mind paying a little extra for decent quality after market stuff. If anyone has first hand experience, with any of the other sellers, please let me know.

I emailed some of the people on ebay selling the faceplates and asked about it voiding the warranty. They said that yes, it did void the warranty on them.

I kinda doubt it. Like on a car, you can add all the aftermarket stuff you want.. It is up to the dealer to prove the aftermarket part is what caused the failure.

I think it only voids your warranty as far as display failures go. I know if you crack your LCD while putting one on your ××××ed.

I agree.. and it's pretty hard to mess up the sub display when replacing the cover. I had cracked my cover before I replaced it and the sub lcd was still fine.. Just a little dusty..

BUT, DO make sure you use a high quality philips screwdriver of the proper size to get the 4 screws out. If you don't you will probably strip them and be $crewed. I bought mine at Fry's Electronics for $3-4, also works great for notebook computer repairs.

I might go down to the Cricket shop a little later today.. see if they say anything about it. I want to check out the data cable & CD they sell. See if I can buy & return it so I can make a image of the CD..

Posted by: AdamTheFckdUpKi

yeah, hey did anyone notice that the external display gets alot more dusty with aftermarket faceplates? I mean its not really bad where I cant see it, but after a couple weeks it gets like white dust spots in there..

Posted by: KRUNK

I do not know why, happend with my brother's 8900, so he changed it back to the OEM.

Posted by: AdamTheFckdUpKi

its simple enough to clean out, but its just a pain in the ×××.
