Matrix animation ANIMATED on my vx4400

Unfortunately I haven't gotten it to animate as wallpaper.....

I found the resource decompiler I was looking for in the thread I posted under software. It's part of the BREW 3.0 SDK, the command line program in the bin directory called brewrc.

With this I decompiled all the BAR files on the phone, including mshop.bar which contains among other things, an extra wide bitmap that has 4 pics of phones with different colors on the screen and amounts of border there (used for the 4-frame animation that is there while you are downloading stuff).

I used brewrc to convert mshop.bar to a .brx file, then replaced the downloading pic resource with the matrix2.bci file I had created with Brew_AuthTool from the SDK, and compiled this into a new mshop.bar file which I uploaded to the brew\en directory on the phone. Now I have the matrix animation on the screen whenever downloading apps in GIN.

Here is a link to the resulting mshop.bar file. The board won't let me upload it because it is too big: mshop.bar

Can we add animated gif s for wallpaper, like the ones that come with the phone? From reading other post i thought we couldn't

I doubt it can do GIFs as-is, they would have to pay royalties to Unisys in order to sell GIF decompression code with the phone.

You can extract the frames from an animated GIF and turn it into a BCI with the "Brew AuthTool" from the SDK. The BCIs show only the first frame just uploading them as wallpaper, but if you replace resources in the BAR files with these then play animated... sometimes. Some of the resources it plays only the first frame.

I would think that the animations CAN be used as wallpaper, we just haven't figured out how yet. Maybe some flag in the brewImageIndex.map file to indicate that the screen needs to be continuously refreshed for the wallpaper? The brew API supports animated images, and the phone comes with one built in as wallpaper, this makes me strongly suspect there is a way to do it.

One thing I noticed that may be the reason it isn't playing images I add as animated is that updates to the active wallpaper by changing the .bit files while the wallpaper is showing only immediately show on the part that is underneath the time/date area as this is probably the only part of the screen normally being refreshed. The rest of the .bit file gets picked up if you bring up the menu screen and cancel out of it.
