not sure why it is not recognized unless....have you used your usb ports before now? you may need to go into cmos settings and enable usb. I had the same prob a while ago and found out that they were not enabled. If you need to know how to get into cmos, when computer is starting up, (it says press del) hit the delete key to enter these settings. As for the red light, it means that the phone is charging, it should turn green when completely charged up. Hope this helps!

You think that the phone is charging throught the USB port of the lap top? Just to make sure we are on the same page, the Mobile kit comes with a cable that is labled Computer Data Cable, one end is USB which plugs into the laptop the other end plugs into the phone, you think that when the cable is pluged into the laptop the phone is charging?

First, do you have a straight cable, or does it have a little box on the cable? If it has a box, then it does charge through the labtop or desktop pc.

can you still use bitpim and/or the mobile office software to connect to and modify the CDM8900(verizon) with the charging cable? also, is there a way to disable the charging cable so it doesn't fry my phone or something?

I'm still working out the bugs trying to get the charging cable to work with bitpim, but I have read that it does work with bitpim, but only with ringtones and wallpaper. So no compatability with phonebook as of yet.(from what I have read). I have read reports of phones "smoking" with this charging cable, but I have had mine plugged in for several hours for last three to four days now and it hasn't affected my phone at all. Hope this helps !
