hello.
has anybody here successfully been able to use the Panasonic G51 as a wireless modem connected to their laptop?
This is the data cable i have bought for the phone:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=3077163128
it says the cable can be connected so that the phone can be used as a GPRS modem. it plugs into the serial port (DB9) of the computer, and into the headset hole on the upper right of the phone. it that weird? the end that goes into the headset hole in the phone has four metal sections. i've never used a headset.. how many do they have?
i also downloaded Panasonic's Data Connection Assistant, but i'm not sure if that was necessary. anyway, i could not really get it to work. i didn't get a chance to try too much out on this one though. but it seemed like it might have been unnecessary, on account of me reading on here that you pretty much just have to set up a new dialup PPP connection or something and just dial *99#?
i do have the phone itself browsing wap sites via T-Mobile's free GPRS access.
anyway, i guess i'd just like to know if anyone else has gotten the G51 to work as a GPRS modem for a laptop.
big thanks to anyone who can help!

It is not as simple as that. You need to enter some data into the intialize string for the modem, so that the mobile knows which APN to use and I think the dial string is longer....I have to look at my laptop, which is at my office.
As for your base question, I do not know. If the mobile supports the AT commands then I do not know why not. If you need the settings, PM me tomorrow to remind me. Someone here should know the settings if they have setup their palm/ipaq to access through the mobile.
Good luck and let me know. I love to travel with my G51 but I use my X70 as a modem...mainly for bluetooth access, but I could be convinced to go back to a cable for the size and battery life.
