Voice and Data?

Posted by: ImmerStark

yup voice and data, 3g voice is already active but the data will not be available untill august 11th. right now they are optimising and fine tuning the network to get ready for launch

The 5150 will not be able to be used /w 3g data. 3G has to be enabled on your account from sprints side and that wont happen with the 5150. plus the browser will not work on 3g anyway. current ww browsers only work on 2g and will not work on 3g. 3g browsers only work on 3g and will not work on 2g.

the phone will be able to use 3g data for a pc connection, and yes sprint wll have to release the connection software fr the pc and enable 3g data on your account

Check this out...I've had 4 5150's,,,I'm a little rough on them.. but anyways the software on all of them where 1.106sp. when you went to the debug menu (##040793..save) on 2 of the 4 you had the option of "rate set (1x)" on the other ones it just said "rate set" and it didnt even have the option for 144k or 144/230, or 64 packet...etc..etc..etc.. All had the same software, prl, and browser version. Im guessing that its more than the software that enables the higher data rates because the 5150's with the (1x) feature had a different "PRI" version (pri stands for PRODUCT RELEASE INSTRUCTIONS) It seems that the newer PRI version is 0x7d82 for (1x). On the phones without the (1x) option it was 0xc56c. Maybe I'm wrong,,,does anyone have any more info on this??????? Is there any way to upgrade the PRI? or is it something else in the software or phone????

heres a code for the 6200......
its in the manual
##tty .....menu...save.... pretty useless

The current phones marked 3g will not be setup for 3g data. Currently there are no plans to offer any kind of upgrade. The phones are set in the system as 3g voice 2g data. Unless thats changed which it doens't look like it will be they will not be able to be provisioned for 3g data. Not to mention if it even let us provision 3g data it would disable their ww browser in the phone. If ya want 3g data, ya gotta get a new phone. System wont allow otherwise.

if the browser does not support 3g data,,then why is it when I set the phone to 144k and i use the browser it says "network unavailable" and then when i set it back to 14k async it works fine?

there is absolutely no reason sprint should not allow people to use the 1x data on a 3g sanyo. all it would require is a browser upgrade to use the ww, and for a pc conection the phones already has the correct software.

Your right, a browser upgrade might be possible. But there could be a memory issue as well. The 3g phones coming out should have a good bit of memory storage in them. I wouldn't be surprised if those 3g phones out now (2255, 5150) dont have enough memory to support a 3g browser. Also even if it is possible currently the chance of upgrading is listed as "not likely". Luckily the phones will start at $149.99 so they will be affordable and all will have color screens except the Sanyo 6300 which will still be b/w. Ill post a list of phones coming out later today.

cool, thanks. i think thr sanyos have 128 kbytes of mem for multimedia, but i am unsure about how much is reserved for the os and software. i think i am going to have to find out how much memory wap 2.0 browser uses now.
