"- All shiny parts need to go into the new housing. I know that sounds stupid but I didn't immediately notice the two small metal slide contacts. As a result the phone couldn't tell when it was being opened or closed. The slide open/closed sounds didn't work, sliding the phone open doesn't light the LCD, sliding it closed doesn't end the call, etc. That resulted in another disassembly."

i noticed from an earlier thread about disassembling the slider that the person said that when they reassembled it back together they made a mistake of leaving out the metal slide contacts. I was wondering if this may be an advantage as we should be able to use the phone while it is closed with the speaker phone and use the phone command such as phone book etc. I was gonna test this out first hand but i can't find the bit to unscrew the back cover =P

Yes it is an advantage. We've known about it for a while now. As for voice commands, you'll need a head set for that.

So if u take out the slider magnets, will you be able to use the number pad to make calls? since it will not recognize that the phone is open will they be functional? please post any existing threads about this topic ty

Actually it works the other way around I think.. the behavior I saw indicated it never knew the phone was closed. I could open it and make calls, but closing it didn't hang up the call and you lose your open/close sounds.
