Bad for the battery?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Someone told me that if I charge the battery when it has two bars or more, then later on, my battery life will be horrible. Is this true? Or, where they full of it?

The Slider uses a Lithium Ion battery, so there's no battery "memory" issue like the older rechargable battery types. In the older types the battery would theoretically last longer if you let it fully discharge before recharging. It's good to do this the first time you charge a Lithium Ion battery but you should be okay recharging when it's at two bars.

Oh, ok. I remember having to do that with my first phone from Sprint about 4 years ago, but I don't know much about this phone yet. The battery on the Slider is so inconsistant. If I know I'm going to use it a lot on a certain day, I always charge it up the night before no matter how much life I had on my battery. So, I was kinda worried about the battery life later on. So, thank you so much. I feel better now.

Li ion batteries have no memory effects unfortunately they have half the life! Do not charge unless necesesary

So, it's not ok? 'Cause the other guy said that it was. Is it bad for the phone if I only do it, every now and then? Like maybe 2 or 3 times a month.

The problem is that the battery only has about a 500 cycle life at most. So frequent recharging will kill your battery sooner. But charging it when its not fully drained does not immediately hurt your battery life, it just lowers the amount of time until your battery wears out (but so does charging it when its drained)

Good point if you dont charge battery it wont wear out and your phone will remain mint. Charge only when you absolutely have too. Batteries are not cheap nor always covered by warranty.

Great, thank you. Sometimes I post threads, and no one really helps me out. But, the two are you were really great about answering.

Thanks so much braindead, and TelecomZombie.

The quotes aren't working very well.

I got my slider about 2 months ago and I charge it every night, all night, while its on, even when there are all the bars. Is this really bad?? its just a bad habit of mine. I leave it plugged in and on whenever I'm home. I used to do this with my old party animal (Kyocera 2119b) and I neva had a problem with its battery, the thing will still last for days and days if I leave it on and running off the battery. Anywho, should I stop charging it all the time or what? Thanks for advice in advance.

its not "bad", your battery will just wear out sooner, but by then, you may have a new phone. They are designed for about 500 chargings

Right... if you charged it up three times a week (I do it about twice a week) that's about three years. And considering a new 3-rd party battery is $30 now, I wouldn't stress too much over battery life.
