I just got this phone...overall, is it a good one?

All in all, I think the 8900 is a great phone. The larg screen is its' best asset. All phones have their own little quirks and problems. People hear differently, so sound quality thoughtws vary from user to user. You'll be happy.

Aside from the speakerphone being too quiet and/or distorting, and lack of a fast find feature of the phone book (most kyoceras have this), and given that I paid $6 for the phone, I can't complain.

It is unlikely I'd say the same if I had to pay the full $ 150 or $170 (or whatever it is going for these days) amount.

Also, the camera is a gimmick.. quality is non existent.

I didnt get the phone of its camera though... I wanted a speakerphone, and at the time, this was verizon's most expensive phone... given the $70 rebate and the $100 ne2 credit, this made a good deal

On the plus side, reception and voice quality is good, battery life is great (2-3 days between charges with modest use).

I love the phone so far. Speakerphone is FINE! I dunno why people are complaining about it. Feels nice, custom ringtones are great. My only gripe is the method of dialing speed dials and the limited number of speed dial slots. Everything else so far is awesome.

Ok. The speaker phone is by no means Motorola quality and is not great for Cars. But for my purposes it works fine.

What do you mean fast find in the phone book? The right soft key and a few buton presses gets me were i need to be withought any problems.

Things I hate:

- I absolutely cannot stand the fact that you cannot use the two-way speakerphone while the phone is closed (unlike some Motorolas). It's very annoying. I HATE THIS THE MOST.
- The speaker is facing one way and the microphone is on the other side on the front of the phone when it's open, makes for a horrible conversation. The speakerphone is not the best quality either.
- I hate the fact that there is no button dedicated specifically for voice mail (like CDM9000, on which I can assign a password to)
- Phone book entry name length is a joke (comparing to a 3+ year-old CDM9000 again)
- Calendar event entry length is a joke.
- Only 21 speed dial entries is ridiculous. (on my R.I.P. CDM9000 I could dial the location of the phone number entry in memory and press send to make the call)
- Sandard ringtones are CRAP.
- Extremely annoying/embarrassing power up/power off tones.
- The vibrator sucks compared to my 3+ year-old CDM9000.
- "No pix is stored" <--- Grammar, anyone?
- The changing of sub-LCD between time and "Verizone Wireless" every few seconds is beyond aggravating.
- I don't like the "pause/link" dialing set-up on this phone either.
- The 'Verizon' markings on the phone.

It's a fashion accessory, not a whole lot more than that. listed at $370, it's a joke. I realize I could change a few things, but it should be well set up from the factory.

Things I like:

- It's new (as in--I have a new phone)
- Nice bright screen (use for finding things in dark 'haha')
- Takes pictures for those moments where you might need a camera + e-mail them.
- Little better sound quality compared to my old phone. (I'm not talking about the speakerphone)
- That it has a two-way speakerphone (it's a love/hate thing)
- Calculator
- Alarm for three different times
- Stupid little games you can download to kill time.
- The fact that it has cost me only $29 brand new from Verizon.

But it was $29 from Verizon and my CDM9000 took a crap. I still haven't made up my mind whether I'm keeping it or not. I have 9 days to return it.
