Posted by: zeki

ya i just tried it.. it is really good

Posted by: Codename_47

Yes very good, too bad it's not freeware

Posted by: futuredoc

This is byfar the most awesome multimedia app for UIQ phones....i jus tried it out and i am not exaggerating but it is actual dvd quality video on ur phone. U jus haveta try it to appreciate it.

Kudo's to these guys.

Cheers,
Doc.

Posted by: kathybillv

how did you convert this to your p900. which codec?

Posted by: sdsviet

if ur converter is on u can click on the codec section and it leads to the website and download the xvid codec for the uiq platform.

Posted by: Codename_47

Can anyone help me, in the converter I enter the unlock code i got from the phone, but it wont unlock i've restarted the converter many times, my request code is 38646 and the unlock code i get is 55163 but it aint working can anyone else with the program enter the code(38646) and see if they get the same number I got (55163) Please help me, it's so irretating with the "DEMO" sign on the screen when I try to convert.

Posted by: solarez

Seems like this piece of software is pretty good. I would appreciate it if someone could share their settings that they used in this app to create movies which are near dvd quality. Taking in to account the 128 meg stick.

Posted by: Bengalboy

I am going to purchase it and see what it does.....looks very nice..

Posted by: Bengalboy

I have used it and encoded the "Matrix Reloaded" for play on the P900 in Landscape mode.... A very nice player and codec for the P900. Get "High Resolution" video without the "High-Rez" headaches of encoding and loss of stereo playback, a 2 hour 7 minute movie that encoded on PV Author with 93mb takes 127 (as indicated on the encoding software interface, actual results unknown at this time) with the Xvid codec. Stereo playback is still available with video/audio sych in correct parameters. Not initially easy to setup, requires the following steps...

1. Download and install software

http://shop.my-symbian.com/Platform...nId=0&catalog=1

a. Download encoding software to desktop.
b. Download player to your P900/P800

2. Download "Xvid" codec and install

http://www.lonelycatgames.com/mobile/smartmovie/

a. for your P900/P800
b. for Windows

3. Encode your video file on your PC configuring the Video conversion to use the "Xvid" codec under "Video Settings" There are various codecs preinstalled but the "Xvid" codec is not one of them until you complete step 2 above....

4. Transfer the completed file to your Duo using the USB cradle or card reader.

5. Open player and select file.

The video is much less pixelated than the PV Author encoding and plays very smoothly....however....

The Player is still buggy and does not like to be shut down or interrupted by another application....accidently starting my Camera caused the player to lockup with only a complete power off and restart able to reset it. If you have a task manager installed directly to your C drive you maynot need to do a complete power off. Just end task and reopen the Player.

Encoding is indicated to take approximately 1 hour to reduce a 1272mb file down to 127mb... Until you purchase the program a RED "DEMO" will flag the movie every few minutes...

At $29 I think it's quite a piece of software for both the encoder and player. The encoder program worked very well with my MPEG files from #1 DVD Ripper. No problem whatsoever.....

Just be sure to install the "Xvid" codec before you start and configue the Video settings in the encoder to use this codec before starting your session.

If anyone would like to see a comparison shot of the "Matrix Reloaded" I will be happy to take a screen shot...

For those who don't want to shell out the money for PV Author, don't like having to fiddle with MPEGable and like stereo as well as a movie that fits on one 128mb Duo, I think this program is a steal....

BengalBoy gives it the "Cat's Meow" for simplicity at a much better video quality than the PV Author Software....

Posted by: C20LET

Bengalboy....do you suppose you could show us a screenshoot of both to compare? I haven't purchased Pvauthor and if this is as good as it sounds I might be tempted into finally getting some multimedia for my p900.

Not sure if this is a reasonable request...but is a small video clip of either possible? I have a pretty good idea of what Pvauthor looks like thanks to vwvwvw but a small 10sec clip of this software would be wicked as well...but no biggie if not. Screenshots from the site look good enough so if the ones you could post are different enough I'd buy it.

Posted by: Bengalboy

I'll post a screenshot of it a little later....I use JeffHarris to host video files and it might be awhile before I can post a clip. Trust me when I say it looks much better...alot less pixelation and artifacting...but...the file size goes up and that's what you get. Better quality, but bigger file.... As I said, the player is alittle buggy but the PC software has been encoding as I multi-tasked browsing the internet and posting this info.... $29 is a STEAL!! It works and works well with my ripping program's output files. For a initial release I would call it a "HOME RUN"..Just don't expect DVD quality....for that you need to get an iMate..

Best part is you can try it for FREE!! Then decide if you want to purchase it and get rid of the "RED DEMO" flag....

Posted by: fokker

the usb cradle won't let me transfer the file... prolly 'cuz its a .avi. it says the file isn't supported or something. i tried using bluetooth but there isn't enough internal space.

Posted by: sdsviet

hey bengal so how would u say it compared to 3vw's hi rez encoding. i was trying out the smartmovie myself and when it finished encoding i was able to play on the pc fine but when i played it in my p900 the movie was lagging. sound was also. i did have the video codec at xvid but that was my xvid i installed awhile back. maybe i'll install the one from the site and see if that made a difference. wat i was trying to encode just a friends episode mpeg i had. maybe i should try different files cuz i cant seem to have any luck with pvauthor and mpegable either.

Posted by: Bengalboy

All I am comparing it to is the PvAuthor program...most users I believe just want a program that readily encodes their video files without alot of personal involvement. Custom bit rates, codecs, etc...can result in better results for video or audio, depending on which area you are concentrating on improving. The average person wants a good quality image with stereo playback and the ability to carry that file convienently on one Duo. To that end, this new program is superior to the PvAuthor program. It encodes in stereo MP3 and does it with a superior video codec,,,but,,,once again,,,,the file size goes up and longer movies will not be able to be stored on the current P900/P800 media. The stock settings of the program worked very well for me, be sure that your bitrate is not above 112 when you encode, as that may the problem with the jerkiness of the video if it was set higher. Also the player has an adjustment within it for synching the audio with the video if you experience that problem.

It really comes down to tradeoffs, PvAuthor will encode just about any movie with stereo playback to a 128mb card...the same movie that took 92.4mb to encode with PVAuthor took 126mb with the new program and required ending at the very instant the movie was over in order to transfer it to the Duo. The video is much improved though, and the interface is so easy that you can get a high quality result with just a click of the "encode" button and the default settings.

Really, there is no way to get the best of both video and audio performance with the current P900's processor and memory...I personally believe that next generation will address this along with the support of larger storage media. Then you can have a video playback experience with stereo playback that is DVD quality like is currently available for the Pocket PC devices.

The only criticisms I have of it is the player is buggy...maybe the registering of the product will solve this but I don't believe the programers intended for it to have "kernal errors" in order to get you to purchase it. Apparantly it has a set video playback time in which it can be used before it locks up. The encoding has a big "RED DEMO" label every few minutes as well as a loss of color in the video, but, it works extremely well and once again, video looks much better than the PVAuthor results.

Bengalboy, What's your settings under the configuration of the codec? I have the latest Xvid codec installed.

I get laggy audio under the default settings too. My bitrate is greyed out and it just says 112kbps.

My audio settings are the default force mono at 8000hz bitrate 24kbps.

Your Xvid config settings would be appreciated.

Thanks bro

Posted by: solarez

problem mite be coz ur using 8000mhz for audio should be 22050mhz i think

Posted by: sdsviet

my codec is xvid also with 22000 with 24 bit rate and i get good audio but laggy video. i dont know wa'ts going on. i think my pc isnt able to encode right or something.

That was the default settings when i installed the program. If anything it would play better because it's less demanding. I would like to know your config settings for the video side. I will try bumping up the audio just in case.

I get this as well. I'm guessing it's because of the default settings of Xvid are too high for the CPU of the phone, since they are set for the PC.

A guide by someone, who has the video playing smooth with no video lag, would help to set it up correctly

I am getting the same error as you and can't seem to figure out why I can't get this to work.....

If any of you guys has some insight let me know.

I'm just going to guess at this, but I would say try and stick them into the documents folder. I believe that folder will allow more or less anything into it. I haven't installed this player but I'd imagine you could then look for the files manually since they won't be in the video folder. This was the case for me and .ogg files anyway.

Posted by: Bengalboy

The default settings...with the Xvid codec...

Video:
Landscape
Reduce Frames
Codec Xvid
Bit Rate: 112

Audio:
Enable
Frequency 16000
Bit Rate: 24
Codec LameMp3
Volume Boost: 150

Member Fokker has reported that increasing the bit rate for the Video to 160 had remarkable results with no lag and that the P900 would play with the bit rate increased all the way to 224... I am going to encode a movie at 160 and higher to see what results I get as well.... Remember to follow the steps I outlined when installing the program in order to get a P900 compatible platform.

Thanks that did it...... Set up a subfolder and dropped it in.. Seems to work well. I'll wait until Mark does further testing before I buy.... But looks good so far.

I'm having trouble with a slight lag at the start of files which is annoying for a short clip. Tried loads of codecs but the same lag????

Is there no buffer like the PV one?

Not sure if it's worth buying.

Posted by: Simon Desser

Has anyone tried using a Divx Codec to convert your videos?
I've used Divx 5.02, and the results seem pretty good, and the file size is under 1 Mb per minute
Also, if your audio is running out of sync, you can alter the "Audio Preroll Time" in the options, in +/- fractions of a second, and it works a treat

Posted by: Codename_47

When you say codec: "xvid" is that the same as "xvid encoder" I only have "xvid encoder" codec

No, I said Divx, not XVid
http://www.divx.com/divx/?src=topta...from_/index.php
I've got version 5.02 and I tried it 'cos I didn't have the Xvid Encoder.
Anyway, I've NOW realised that although the file size is slightly smaller with Divx, I think the quality is a little better using XVid

Posted by: fokker

I'm sending Pirates of the Caribbean to my phone. I have the full registered version of Smartmovie player and converter. I had to use 112 bitrate because anything higher would make the size of the file go over 123 MB (which is the capacity of the DUO). But yeah... 160 would look a lot better than 112.

does anyone have ideas for the best settings to be used with a P800?

cheers

you're gonna have to test and experiment with settings
good luck

my codec is actually xvid mpeg 4 codec. i wonder if it makes a difference. i running a laptop with win2k 1.7ghz p4m 512ram and 40gbs. i see no reason for this lag.

don't use that... it comes out really ugly.. use 'xvid encoder'

Posted by: sdsviet

yo where can i find this xvid encoder. i looked around but got buncha random links. also i couldnt find a way to uninstall the xvid mpeg4 codec. it seems to not be in the uninstall apps section.

Posted by: fokker

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE WIN32 XVID CODEC FROM HERE:
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/mobil..._xvid_win32.zip

Posted by: fokker

just run setup.exe and click Okay and you'll see it in the drop down menu in the software

Posted by: sdsviet

aww man thanx for the codec. i finally got this stuff to work correctly. maybe i will now can go out there and buy the programs since it does actually work for me.

Posted by: sdsviet

wat's the difference between encoding the file at 112 bit rate compared to 224 bit rate? i dont know really see a difference in video quality for the file but i do get an increase in file size. higher bitrate means smoother motion right? cuz i think there might be a slight lag at 224 bit rate when i play it. unless this bit rate might just be too high for the p900 processor to handle. maybe i should try some comparisions. if u guys already did some comparisons let me know wat u think about it.

like 112 vs 224
112 vs 192
112 vs 160
and so on.

Posted by: ump001

i've been testing this software also, but for some reason when i convert a file which is 1.5mb's in size, after the convertion its nealry 2mb's in size. I'm using the default setting with the xvid encoder. Anyone also getting this problem. Know how i can sort this out.

thanks.

Posted by: sdsviet

how does it work with bigger file size's. maybe it only does that with small file sizes. i havnt really done any files that small.

Posted by: jeffharris

Mark, if you need to post any sample vids, just email 'em to me, I'll post/host them on my site.

Posted by: ceanth

good software this, i tried out 192kbps with matrix reloaded, did the chase scene with tinity on the bike, it looks amazing however the audio becomes out of sync with the higher picture quility. Im wondering if notching up the audio might help with this. Im gonna test it out a bit later but 192 does look FAB

Remember, there is an adjustment in the Player for audio synch with the video...

Okay Jeff, I'll rip a nice scene from one of the DVD's....choices, choices, choices...and encode it at 192 bit rate...

Posted by: sdsviet

umm matrix reloaded, fight between neo and the asian guy, san-something. or maybe a really fast action scene like the ones with the twins in the escalade. can u do two versions like one with 192 and one at 112 so i can compare it. cuz when i rip it, i see no difference. im using xvid encoder for the codec. bengal is urs just xvid and not xvid encoder?

i got pirates of the caribbean full on my phone.. it looks great

Hi ya guys

I purchased the SmartMovie converter/player last Sunday and have been playing around with it for a couple of days now... I wanted to get a feel for it before I posted anything.

I’ll just start by sharing these 2 files (for your downloading pleasure) that I made using both Mpegable and SmartMovie in order for you to tell me what ya think (for comparison sake... I encoded the MP4 to be approximately the same overall size as the AVI ends up using the landscape mode to encoded with smartmovie)

I use the new iRobot Trailer for a source file like you ask for sdsviet.

This first file is the MP4 and it will only play on the P900 (using the Packetvideo player) and not on the P800!

The second file is an AVI and will play on both P900 & P800 providing you have the SmartMoive player installed on your phone.

I almost forgot... I set the "Audio Preroll Time" to 0.95 (on the phone under "Options" on the SmartMovie player) for the best audio sync with this AVI.

Posted by: sdsviet

3vw, ur awesome no one come thru like u. i would have to say on the rest of us hofo'ers that ur work is greatly appreciated.

Posted by: sdsviet

i just checked out both trailers. both had good video and audio sync. from the looks of it the .avi has slightly better video quality and much higher sound volume when i played it all the way up. altho due to the higher sound volume there were much more noise so it wasnt as clear. the .mp4 sound clarity was much better but the sound volume was quite low compared to the avi. on smoothness of video during fast action scenes its seems the .mp4 file is just slightly smoother even tho the video clarity isnt as clear.

but i would have to say each file has its perks. with the mp4 file, since its made with mpegable there are much more options to mess with and u can easily compensate certain things for others based on ur taste and requirements. with the avi, smartmovie is a great and easy tool to use really fast with no worries about tweaking around to make a good movie or video. so all in all if u like one over the other or one just seems to work better for u than the other, then u chose wat best fits. for it would have to be smartmovie due to the fact that that's the only converter that i've had luck with and works for me. b4 it was mpegable and pvauthor which neither would encode right for me. i always had either laggy video or audio\video sync problems all the time.

Posted by: vwvwvw

Thanx sdsviet... that's an excellent assessment and I tend to agree with all that you've said.

I also wanted to share this fun little vid... and now both P900 & P800 users can download and enjoy alike. Sorry that the audio is a little choppy but you’ll still get the point... She just HELLOMOTO

This really should be shared in the Moto section too, now that the V600 can play back vids!

Posted by: fokker

I'd upload Pirates of the Caribbean for you guys but to where?

Posted by: sdsviet

umm i dont think we can post up full movies. just clips and trailers really. unless its a home movie of a sort. but that's as far as it goes.

3vw the vid was pretty funny. i kinda figured it out just as she started dialing. but i had to wait til the end of the clip to see wat it was. at first i thought it was a new commercail so i thought it was a cool cellphone but to my surprise. hehe cant tell them everything now.

Posted by: artesea

Help, since installing SmartMovie, any time I open up a folder which contains an XVID AVI, WinXP crashes and the folder closes.
It's making it pretty impossible to copy movies onto the memory card, and at the moment, i'm having to use the DOS prompt.

I'm guessing the problem is to do with the way WinXP treats the files (like when creating the thumbnails) and that it's getting confused between a DIVX AVI and an XVID AVI. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Posted by: sdsviet

sorry im not a xp user. 2000 is where its at. but all i can say is have u updated everything for ur xp like service packs. sorry i dont know wat else is there really besides if it is just a certain xvid avi then that might be ur problem.

Posted by: sdsviet

ok word to the wise when using smartmovie. for the past two days i was so excited that it was working so i've been converting my friends and smallville to fit onto my phone. i havnt been paying attention i just kept converting. so when i played one of my files i found out there was no sound. and i started to look around if i unchecked anything on smartmovie. to my surprise i did. by audio settings u must have "enable" checked or u will get no sound. hopefully my mistake will be the last one here. i had to delete about 15 files that took a couple of days of continuously converting down the drain. so just remember when converting make sure its all there and have urself a go at it. dont be like me

ps. hey my signature isnt there anymore. am i not allowed to post a for sale on there. if so then im sorry i did, wont do it again.

Been playing with smartmovie all weekend and done some fantastic rips of 5th element and The Matrix, both spanned over 2 128mb duos with maximum audio quality and 160/192 video. Detail is incredible, and smooth enough for comfortable viewing

For making movies which span over two, this can't be matched for video quality. It has the massive advantage that you can manually adjust the audio if it's out of sync, you can increase the brightness of your videos if they're too dark (or you're viewing them in well lit areas)

It's extememly fast at converting, increases the gain of your audio easily and is truely stunning watching a video on my p900. Remember, all those people who say there's more to fiddle with on mpegable, you've got all the variables in the Xvid codec with this. You can even create all your videos in Virtual Dub (it's more difficult but allows a 2pass xvid encode).

I've had no problems whatever with the player on my device, none of these kernal errors, or hard reboots to perform! Well worth getting. As with all these things though, you can find them on the web for nothing.....

has anyone found out if there is a huge difference between encoding video at 112bitrate compared to the allowed max 224 bitrate for the p900. like is there that much of a difference for concern. the big difference i'ved seen for now is the double in memory but that's it. i just encoded one of the starwars clone wars in 112 and 224. im going to watch both on my p900 and see how that's gonna be like.

edit:
yea with teh 224 bitrate. the video clarity is much clearer than i expected. with the 112bitrate, during the fast action scenes u can definately see the pixelated boxes and with the 224 bitrate, u can hardly see it at all only maybe a lil when its a shot of something really far away like the landscape or soemthing but during a close up shot of a person u wont see anything but great clear pictures. i only problem i have with 224 is that the files doubles in size compared to the 112. so i guess if the movies itself has a lot of fast action sequences then 224 would be the way to go for the best picture or maybe u can lower it for like 192 and 160 lowest. but i would have to say 112 isnt that great for it. i did this comparison with clone wars so its a animated piece. it might that clear due to the fact that its animation and prolly doesnt require a high resolution to give better video clarity. if someone did a comparison on a real non animated movie, let me know wat thoughts are of it.

Well it looks like you’ve answered your own question even better than I would.... hehe

As an analogy, I like to think of bitrate as adding detail to fill the picture (resolution size). The larger the picture (i.e. 320x208 vs. 192x 144) the more bitrate it takes to make it look good. Combine that with video movement (which requires even more detail/bitrate per frame) and you begin to see how a lesser bitrate begins to show poor quality.

Now using a higher bitrate is going to naturally result in a higher file size. The two go hand and hand. Lower the bitrate and you’ll save on the file size... but you'll end up with less quality!

I personally choose to use a higher bitrate to encode for my visual tastes (396 k/bit in Mpegable for what I’ve coined “Hi Rez”) and let the file size fall where it will. (BTW it takes 4 - 128 Duos for me to carry around the whole RoTK movie with me).

Now coming into using SmartMovie (and I haven’t really done a lot of converting with it yet) I have found I can achieve a rather satisfactory image setting the bitrate at only 160 K/bit! (I made the iRobot Trailer that I posted @ 160 K/bit) Then again, I might not feel this way once I start converting more files... I’ll probably up it as I go.

You have rightly found that converting @ 224 k/bit looks much better than 112 K/bits... especially when you have a lot of action. I’ve found the most demanding sections of a movie are during action scenes when both the camera AND the characters are moving simultaneously... this is where the detail can become very distorted (pixilated) when you compromise on bitrate.

Furthermore in my laid-back lifestyle (I’m retired) I’m not really put into situations where I need to kill time watching full length movies on my P900. I just prefer to share and show-off that the P900 is fully capable of doing this when the occasion arises. For the most part I have found myself more pre-occupied with converting the most recent movie trailer (unending source material that usually isn’t any greater than 2 mins. long and equates to no more than 6 Mb of space.) and therefore I really don’t care about limiting the bitrate (basically I’ve push it to the limit of the phone’s capability already using Mpegable without having the file run into noticeable jerkiness). FWIW...At this (bit)rate you can fit more trailers on a 128 Duo than I’ll ever care to carry around with me. (about 20 trailers if my math is right!) And another point is... most people I show my P900 to don’t usually have more than a minute or two to view it anyways... the movie trailer presentation turns out to be the perfect size for this kind of sharing.

But when it’s all said and done remember... beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all have different levels of tolerance when it comes to our viewing tastes. To my I just got to have that “Hi Rez” detail or it’s just not worth viewing more than once for me!

Oh, can you tell me why you say that 224 K/bit is a max setting for you? I don’t seem to have that limitation with using SmartMovie.

Also, I‘ve been playing around with my Moto V600 and converting trailers for it. Talk about dealing with a lack of storage space... it only has about 6 Mb of on board storage.

Hi guys, i use 160 (roughly 1min = 1.3/1.4 mb), if you wanna sort the noise problem out then drop audio to 16 and increase the Hz to 22050 (i think its that, but anyways it starts with 22) - What that does is gets rid of any distortions in the background and it clarifies it a hell of a lot.

Going back to your 224 option, i wouldnt recommend it as it slows the video down (although it gives excellent picture clarity) but when it comes to a fight seen then it has a slight LAG (if that makes sense )

So i agree with vwvwvvw that 160 is the best you can go, i made a clip with the fight scene from "Matrix Revolutions" where they fight in the building and then fight in the sky and i tried it with every single setting and found that 160 kept bot smoothness and flow and was very generous with the file size and i got 123mb on 1 mem stick and the last 28mb's on my 32mb mem stick.

I mean try it out and let me know, i based my settings on vwvwvw in the sense i saw that if you lower the audio then it increases the flow and smoothness of the movie.

i have around 13 episodes of the simpsons and they all look awesome under these settings and the best thing is they are in landscape and take the full screen, and i put anger management and matrix revolutions and now i can STRONGLY say that this encoder and player finally do my P900 some justice.

On a final note, i only bought this p900 to show off the 2-3 min clips, i dont think i have the time to pull it out and start to watch movies on it constantly. Strains the eyes!!

Oh yeah, please help with my format problem, everytime i put my mem stick on the "reader" my pc says it needs formatting and it wont let me access my files no more

ukp900 answered the question there with the 224max bitrate. from wat i was told about smartmovie it recommends that 224 will be the highest bitrate that one can set for the p900. anything above that tends to lag the video a bit. seems that the p900 processor cant handle a higher bitrate than 224 as well such as how its cant really handle the 30fps files also. well i will try lower the quality on the audio to 16 and see if it makes a difference for me. well right now my setting is at 224 bit 22050hrtz and 24bit audio. im just converting clones wars right and now all the episodes are no longer than 5 mins so its pretty easy to just watch one when ur having a quick break of the sort.

Well tonight i had to go OLD SKOOL and bloody use my usb cable to transfer a movie, it takes roughly 40mins to 1 hour and with the card reader it takes under 4mins

that was some good stuff sdsviet, im pretty new to this but i have only had this p900 for like 5 days and now i can rip dvd's and then use smart movie (first used pvauthor - bengalboys choice and then mpegable - vwvvwvw choice and now my choice SmartMovie)

But without those two guys i wouldnt have even thought of entering this field and they have made it exciting and challenging and DOWN RIGHT FUN, so BIG UP TO both of them who are totally WICKED!!!

Also i think im gonna purchase a new card reader i bought my first one last week for £8 which i think is roughly $15, but check this link out, im gonna buy this one from ebay and it looks a bit like BengalBoys, but his looks better

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....&category=18872

Oh yeah vwvwvwvw how much did your laptop cost and whats the spec coz it looks sweet and also how do i put pictures in the threads (do i have to pay?? be a member that is)

Posted by: Bengalboy

Glad to have helped you ukp900, it was fun being able to show people "how to do it" and judging from the hits on that thread alot of people are using it. Beats some JackLeg charging you $50 on ebay to sell you encoded movies? I agree with you, SmartMovie is the best encoding program currently. Easy interface and simple bit-rate changes make it the choice for people who want a high quality video with stereo as well. No hassels, no worries, just fun!!

Hi guys,

I have a question. Do you have any idea why every time I upload a second video to my smartmovie, the first one will disappear?? I remember saving the first (Lord of the Rings) before I upload 'Spiderman' but only Spiderman can be seen???

Cheers,
Anissa

Posted by: sdsviet

umm i dont think u can have more than one file in smartmovies simultaneously. i believe it can only do one file at a time. i tried it myself and it would not let me select more than one file.

Posted by: Anissa Low

Oh, only one at a time? That's very lousy! Imagine the time I took to upload it to the phone, only to watch it until I u/l the next one
Think I will stick to the video that came with the phone after all.

Thanks or replying

When you've added new movies to your phone (a card reader is nice and fast) open up Smartmovie, click browse files, then, at the bottom left of the screen, click Menu and then "Rescan File System". This will then show ALL the compatible movies on your phone/card

Sorry, you probably need to install the xvid codec on your PC, then select Xvid in the Codec Configuration in SmartMovie.

Posted by: p408typeR

yeah , i think thats my problem too, but i also got that installed already! not sure if i installed correctly though
i first installed it in my temp folder located in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP

im not sure if thats the right location or not, however, it says installation completed, i didnt know what to do with the other file besides read me so i just left it there, but in the read me file, it says after installation it will run and i can delete the files, i tried to get it working before and after deleting the files, but still didnt work

HELP!! anyway thanks desser

Posted by: Simon Desser

If it's installed correctly, then Xvid will show up in the list of codecs.
First click "Configure"

then select Xvid encoder in the list of available codecs.

Works fine for me using default settings.
I am however using my existing xVid windows codec. The end product is good enough for me, but I am a VCD geek so I would be

it might be a little better for you guys to understand how i try to work it!

i first downloaded the trial software, installed it onto the comp (the converter) and then automatically installs the player onto my phone, then i have installed the Xvid onto the phone, and also installed the codecs on to the computer (im not sure if i did this correctly, because i read the README file, i installed it in my temp folder located in WINDOWS folder found in C drive, is this correct?) and then i converted a file, and then transfered to phone, but didnt work, in the player on the phone it tells me that i dont have the codec installed, but i have installed the Xvid onto the phone already!

anyway thanks much for all you guys help, very appreciated!

Derek

Posted by: sdsviet

maybe u'll just try to reinstall it again. who knows it might have installed on a different directory on the phone.

a different directory on the phone...hey, can you tell me for both codecs to be installed on the comp and phone, where is the exact location where i am suppose to download to?

Thanks.
Derek

Posted by: sdsviet

well i guess it should be installed exactly where the player is on the phone. my codec and player is installed on my duo. for the computer i think its just where u installed all the other codecs.

Have you selected a file to convert?

Posted by: sandra1

Hi Artesa

No I had not - I had problems trying to pick up anything to load,
I wanted to download some of my DVD's but I was unable to get the convert box up .I choose a trailer from the internet and loaded that one although it appears a bit choppy but at least it is on there and will need to have some tweeks made to it.

I do not know what I have to do to get the Smartmovie to pick up from the DVD drive on the PC, so that I can choose the correct codecs.

Sorry for the very silly questions and many thanks

Sandra

You cannot encode a movie directly from the DVD drive...you must first "rip" the DVD..see my tutorial in the sticky department..

So did u guys make up ur mind on the best bit rate to use, because i am kinda confused here...

Posted by: Bengalboy

Depends...do you want best quality looking video....or most convienent format for storage of one movie on a 128mb card?

Posted by: Taliban

if i need the best looking video, mine are ranged between 10-30 minutes, by the way what are the settings you use for music video clips. thanks all in advance

Posted by: Taliban

hi guys, i was just wondering if this is the best program to encode videos for the phone, and if any one had any new experience with it?

Posted by: Lilfinger

hi! i just want to ask! if u rip a dvd... how many mb will it be??

Posted by: sdsviet

if u rip a dvd in its raw form it can go from 4gbs to 9gbs which means in mb terms is 4000mbs to 9000mbs. is that wat u were asking for/?

i like this format the best because it gives the best results with ease of use. also if u want really great picture go with 224 but if u really just want it to fit on a 128mb stick then go with 112 nothing lower. its all up to u to choose wat u mean. if u encode something with 112bit rate and there's still some memory left then up the bit rate where it will fit the full 128mb stick and give a little better quality to it.

Posted by: Lilfinger

tnx! coz im planning to buy smartmovie... so i just want to know if i can put some movie like from dvd(rip) on my fone... but i dont think i can put any movies on my fone b'coz i only have 128mb mmc on my nokia 6600! so... i assume that a full movie wont fit...

Posted by: sdsviet

u can definately fit a full movie on there. people have done it with smartmovie b4. its actually decent quality too. but sometimes u do it in two parts which is usually the best way

Posted by: Lilfinger

thanks for that! maybe ill give it a try.... but my fone has sumthing else installed on it... (games,themes.....etc).. but we'll see
