I want to buy a treo 600 for stock trading purposes but not sure if it can handle certain functions.
I'm on Sprint and will sign-up for the vision package to get unlimited internet.
Question on using a real-time ticker on the 600:
1) can it handle a real-time ticker.
2) can it handle the Ameritrade Streamer
3) can it handle any other brokerage site real-time tickers
Any comments would be helpful...and Thanks!

It depends on what the brokerage sites use for their tickers. If it's simple javascript then the Treo MIGHT be able to handle it. But if they use java aplets or flash, then I doubt it. If you know anyone with a Treo, ask them to check out the site and see if it will work. If you plan on buying one anyway, go ahead and get Vision, it's free for two months. If it doesn't work, then you're not out any money. If you're only looking at the Treo for trading purposes, it still won't hurt to try it out. Sprint has a 14 day return policy and most other retailers have 30 day policies.

thanks for your help...
I went to the sprint store to check out the speed of internet access and it took 15 minutes to access a site. It was 7pm and the rep said it was slow due to peak time on the internet...Is that for real? or is the treo just slow to connect to the web?
I didn't have that kind of problem even when i had 56k service a few years ago.
I just talked to Ameritrade again and the tech support guy said streamer automatically downloads the java aplets that use java script(?) he didn't seem to know or was not confident in what he was telling me.
I may have to buy it and return it if doesn't work and wait for the upgrade.
The sprint people said it can run anything that you can do on your pc...doesn't sound like that is a totally true statement..but i guess i'll find out.
Thanks again for your help!

No problem.
During peak times, loading webpages on the Treo can take a little while. Keep in mind you have to deal with the internet connection which could be slow along with actually loading images and all on the Treo. That itself will take longer because it doesn't have the processing power and resources of a PC.
Javascript and java aplets are two different things. Blazer (the Treo's browser) supports limited javascript but not java aplets.
The Treo can do a lot, but it can't do everything your PC can. You can do a lot on the Treo that you can't do on most phones, but it's defiinitely not browsing on a PC.
I'd recommend buying it so you have two weeks to really feel it out and see if it meets your demands yourself instead of listening to sales people.
Good luck.

Thanks again for the info.
Don't know if anyone has used this add-on to the Treo. A guy I work with put this on his Treo 600. The speed differnce was significant. He showed me with and without the browser.
He just got the treo and has not had time to run any streamers or applets. He says its supposed to run in real-time streaming data.
This is the website but I still can't figure out if it can run Java appets. I don't know the terminology enough to determine if it does or not. I hope someone uses this and can provide some feedback or knows of other products like this that may be better.

Reqwireless WebViewer is a fast HTML Web browser for Java-enabled (J2ME) mobile devices. WebViewer gives you access to the same Web content on your Java-capable cellphone or PDA that you get with any desktop browser. WebViewer is not a WAP browser; it's an HTML browser.
I don't know what the last sentence means on the text and what relevance it is.
If anything the browser definately speeds the connection to websites.
Any help on this product or similar products would be appreciated!
