Should I return my 8600? Totally bugged!

Just got the 8600 and can return it if I act today. So far, I'm pretty unhappy and would like a few answers from those of you in the know:

-- The "Verizon Wireless" banner (inside and outside) is totally annoying. As far as I can tell there is no way to turn it off. There are rumors of an update, but I just got off the phone with Verizon and they say there is absolutely no way to disable it, even with an update. Is this true?

-- I can't download images and ringtones except with GIN, right? There SHOULD be 3 ways of getting ring tones and images:

1) GIN - screw that! I ain't paying $2 for something I've always got for free in the past.
2)WAP Download - Verizon has disabled this in the phone. It seems they have blocked the MIME types.
3) EMS attachment - doesn't work. I tried sending an image and ringtone through vzwpix.com as recommended, but I get the "Go to this webpage to view the attachment" message. A call to Verizon and they tell me my phone doesn't support images. Yeah right!

**Why is there a menu option for EMS images/ringers and downloaded images/ringers when both of these options are disabled by Verizon???**

THIS IS MY PHONE! I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WHAT I WANT WITH IT!

I would hack, get the data cable, whatever, if I could fix these problems, but I haven't read anywhere conclusively that you can get around these with the 8600, even with the data cable. Or am I missing something?

If you were me and it were your last day to return the phone, would you? And if so, what would you get instead?

PS - I was able to get the free WAP set up easily through waptunnel. At least Verizon isn't screwwing me out of that $5 a month.

The blinking wireless banner can be removed with the data cable. You have to edit the eri file so its a hack but look for a lead on removing the banner on the 8900 its the same thing procedure

Also ringtones and images can be added with the data cable

So you can get around things its jsut a matter if you want to

Get rid of it, the 8900 is WAY BETTER!!!!

I could not deal with the 8600's phone book search functionality. I swapped it out for the 8900.

Get the 8900, you won't regret it.

Hi!

I've got the cable, what sfwe(s) do I need?

And do I check here for procedures? or will the sfwe tell me how?

TIA!

OK, I've read about removing the banner with the cable, but where are instructions to upload ringtones and images. I've looked far and wide and haven't found anything that gives clear instructions and verifies it CAN be done with the 8600.

Probably will exchange for the 8900 anyway. Still, I'd like to know.
