VXXX Flash/Flex HOWTO

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Burchoid

I dunno why no one has written a decent how-to on this yet, so I thought I might as well Be warned, this is all done at your own risk. Don't come crying to me if you mess up your brand new V600.

There are basically three things you will need:

USB Data Cable

Get this from ebay or your local cell phone store.

Software

You will need to download these files from www.************ Use the nav bar on the left to select software. Just ignore all the spanish. The files are in enlgish formats
(this site is down often, and there are alot of dead links ... just keep trying it will work )

PST_6.7_GENERAL.zip
PST_6.7_Patch.zip
P2K_driver_2.3.zip

Set up and install PST_6.7_GENERAL. After doing this, copy the files from PST_6.7_Patch.zip into the C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST folder or wherever you installed PST. Overwrite the original files with what the PATCH provided.

Now, restart your computer.

The files from P2K_driver2.3.zip are the drivers your computer needs to communicate with your phone through your USB port.

Have these files in an easily accessable folder, as you will need to point your computer to the folder when and if it asks for a driver!

Flash/Flex FILES

Again, these files are found at www.************. Use the nav bar on the left to go to the firmware section (firmware requires flashing) and the flex section (the software your phone will use) I would recomend these files:

:FIRMWARE/FLASH:

TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.23R_reflash.part01.rar
TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.23R_reflash.part02.rar
TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.23R_reflash.part03.rar

:FLEX:

GI9V600000AA0E9.rar

Yes you will need a program called WINRAR to build/extract these files. (www.win-rar.com)

::Process::

Navigate to your C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST folder and open up MultiFlashFlex.exe Its a little gold motorola icon.

Check the box of what you would like to do, either FLASH with a firmware file (TRIPLETS ...) , or FLEX with one of the software files (GI9V600000AA0E9) Use the Browse button and go to your file you want to put on the phone and select it.

Check these boxes on the RIGHT: Overide existing phone software... and Master clear and Master reset.

**CAUTION** be sure to back up or save anything important like phone numbers and/or setting to your sim card. If you can't save them, write down what you need to save!!!

Under "Device" you should see your phone. If not, make sure its hooked up right, turned on, and that the drivers you downloaded for it are working.

When you are ready, hit START, and don't touch anything! It may fail the first time, especially when trying to FLASH. Don't worry, just power cycle your phone and try again. Took me 3 attempts before it actually worked.

I hope this helps all ya, and if anything here needs to be edited or if you have any input let me know! Thanks!

Right on... great post.
I'd like to add my experience here in the mix. After reading endlessly the bad translations of Altavista babelfish I decided to trust my senses and go for it.

All I did was flex. Got the flex file from v600.howardforums.com and went to work. Started Multiflashlfex.exe from the Motorola folder in Program Files, clicked Flex unclicked Flash, under flex selected the file, clicked master clear and reset and hit start. It took about 4 minutes for the flex to be done. After that I disconnected the phone from the cable and turned it on. It worked just fine.

First of all...great post Burchoid!!

Devis: I'm tempted to do the same thing you did. I don't want to update the firmware, I just want to flex the phone...mine is already at a V600 but I want to get the AIM feature that the GI9V600000AA0E9 flex has. One question though:

After flexing, do you still have the date under your provider's name and do you have that engineering menu??

Posted by: wu-wei

The 9.23 firmware is known to be buggy. I would suggest the 9.1DR_A instead.

I have the engineering menu and yes, I do have GPRS under the provider's name, but that can be cleared just by reregistering on your network... u know, menu settings networks, search new network. You don't have to power cycle the phone to get the date. The network way is faster.

There are about 15 ways to figure out how to do this in this forum alone.

This is a nice presentation, though.

In about a week everyone will be posting, crying because there's no step-by-step guide that they can understand. That seems to be just the way things go. You'd think folks would run a search and have some patience. I was here for 2 weeks, just reading and absorbing before I even posted a peep. So many users want the easiest answers just handed to them...

I sound like an old fart.

Posted by: dal

First of all, thanks a million for the post.
Second I have a stupid question: Can you flash/flex without the USB data cable? i.e. just using bluetooth?

Posted by: gedmunds

Well done!

Posted by: rsd_11

k, i know what flashing is, but what's flexing?

Posted by: Burchoid

Yup,

Flashing = replacing the firmware (the software that runs the hardware)

Flexing = replacing the Flex file (the software you see and use, the GUI)

Posted by: linuXshock

just flexed my v400 using this guide, and worked like a charm

Posted by: dantheman1

first of all GREAT POST SHOULD BE MADE INTO A STICKIE!!!!!!

if i only flex my v300 to v600 will it be a v600 exactly except for how the phone looks but all the features that the v600 has and the v300 doesnt will also be included (except bluetooth) will it have the v600 menu?wat will i also get i update the firmware as well

also wat is the differnce between these 2 firmware files :
TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.1DR_A_LP0039_JPG_0B_TRIP_0B_04.05 R_SE6446AXXF10F8_1FF

TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.23R_reflash

i want to know every thing differnt betrween them!

Posted by: cowboys93

Great post.

I have a V400 and have read the entire thread, tips, tricks, etc.

This posts has vut to the chase. In all the prior threads, the information needed to be successful is buried in pages of posts. I have used search and di not find a concise step by step instruction on how to accomplish the task. I will try flexing my V400 this weekend.

Posted by: 7-endless

Since the GPRS issue is still occurring, I may just wait for the next Flex...

Posted by: devis

I fixed my GPRS network not avaliable errors with the OTA of T-Mobile kindly posted by wu-wei. Here's the link...

https://secure.mouse2mobile.com/cli...leus/ota_care/#

I suggest all T-Mobile USA users take advantage of this after flex/flash. Much easier than scouring the web for the correct GPRS/Wap settings. I used the Motorola V400 as a my handset and it worked just fine. It creates a locked internet connection on the phone with the correct T-Mobile settings and I must say it is much faster than it was before with the settings I entered myself. That's where the class 10 GPRS comes real handy.

I tyed flexing my v300 using this the poFlash and flex files I downloaded off motclub but it can't find them. however when I go into my documents through my computer they are right there. I know I am overlooking something stupid I have been strugling with it for hours and am going insane can someone point me in the right direction. thanks

Posted by: 7-endless

The files downloaded from Motclub are archived in .rar format. You will need Winrar to unarchive the actual flex file.

BTW, you should only apply the flex and not the firmware flash...

Posted by: dantheman1

why should you only apply the flex?

Posted by: dantheman1

let me post this agin since no 1 answered my question

Only the developers who designed the firmwares would really know the difference...I would stay away from the .23R firmware as there were a few bugs with it...take a read through the stickies above to get a better idea...

Yes, flexing will pretty much give you all the options of the V600 except for bluetooth since the V300 does not have BT hardware

Posted by: devis

I'd suggest you only do the flex. For the flash I'd wait for a new one, that's why I didn't do it on mine. Besides I had the fear the camera would not be compatible with the flash so I left it alone.

Posted by: evolve454

just flexed my v300 to v600 worked like a dream had to fix the gprs with the link in this thread that also went easy. One question though, I was told to stay away from firmware flashing witch i did. I got the results that I wanted it has the layout on screen like the v600 and the extra options. so that leads me too wonder what the point of flashing is. can someone tell me. bye the way thanks 7-endless and dantheman for the help couldn't have done it without ur help

Posted by: devis

The flash is a software upgrade, fixes bugs and things of that sort.

Posted by: Burchoid

I would also only suggest the flex if you have a V300 or V400. The difference between the two firmwares are that one is straight from Motorola and has several known bugs. The 2nd one, the 23R is a beta version, and is newer than the first. Try both and see what ya like ... I have not noticed a difference between the two!

Posted by: Ch28

wtf...

i get an "Invalid Security Key Detected" but it shows that the phone is connected inside MultiFlashFlex

Heres another error I get before the program opens...

"Error: Cannot load the flash tool! Friendly Name: Flash Prog"

Posted by: 7-endless

Well, I threw caution to the wind and flexed my V400 using the GI9V600000AA0E9 flex file.

I have to admit that the menus are a hell of a lot faster with this flex and the AIM ability under Office Tools is pretty neat. As far as I can see the only drawback is that you can no longer see the date under your Provider's name, but I guess it's a small price to pay for some of the extra features...

BTW, what is Mobile QQ? Is this another IM type??

Posted by: devis

Great... i'm glad you are enjoying it...

As for the mobile qq i've been trying to figure it out too without any luck...
If anyone knows anything, please tell us...

Posted by: kennycrft

To the people that flexed their phones from v300(A5R software) to v600, has the battery gotten better or worse?

Posted by: linuXshock

I dont use GPRS so i guess when you disable it .. then it shows the date

Posted by: BigDaddy5

Is it just me, or can Moto not make decent drivers? I'm having problems installing on a Win 2k system, the V400. I keep getting the "device cannot start" when I go to the device manager. Thanks

Posted by: Scoobyru1

FINALLY!!!!!!! I am now the proud owner of a flexed v400. This is awesome. Thank you so much for the help, it has been a long frustrating road for me.

Unzip the patch.zip file into the PST folder and overwrite the files when prompted. That should clear things up.

Posted by: hkalltheway

Thanks for this guide! Both flashing and flexing worked like a gem for me. No errors what-so-ever. Good job in making the guide clear and concise for noobs

I haven't had any troubles, but if you got the file from motclub, the password is ************

Yep I got it from ************ and thanks for the password
If you see the original thread that started the post the author said download everything from ************

Obviously left out a key piece i.e the pwd to unrar the files

Thanks again for the obvious choice in pwd :-)

Has anyone noticed other cons other than the missing date?

How is battery life after flexing?

Does the engineering menu tell you what band you're on (e.g., 900 or 1800 or 1900)?

Yes, you have to enable it though. It'll require a phone restart and the engineering menu will display upon turning on the phone. It won't tell you the exact frequency you're using in actual numbers (1903.4 or smth similar) instead it'll show you some sort of a code which denotes the frequency you're currently on. I saw a thread about it before... gonna try to dig it up. Here it is.
If someone now could explain what the rest of the selections mean... it'd be great.
Oh, almost forgot, to get out of the field test press the center upper soft menu key and the left soft key. To go back in, same deal. Remember though that when you enable the field test on the engineering menu, every time you power cycle the phone it'll show you the field test screens. I'm just mentioning it so that noone freaks out like I did

yea i know that rule sucks oh well

What is the worst that could happen when FLEXING your v400?

Posted by: Burchoid

Well, a stampeed of elephants could come running through and crush your phone -- maybe you too. Thats all I would worry about ... those elephants

Posted by: devis

or an FCC ban on those 900 lines...

Posted by: RPlay

thanks guys! Appreciate the mature responses!

Posted by: devis

hahahaahah relax man...

The worse it could happen is that the phone won't turn on anymore.

Posted by: tocsrechno

for all you that flexed your v400 to v600.

im in the process, but always seem to get this message saying something about the SECUIRTY KEY after i start the flex process.

hoping to get some feedback on this.....

Posted by: tocsrechno

dont reply to the message above.

1. i'm an idiot
2. my answer was on the pervious page.

Posted by: tocsrechno

everytime i try and get the patch.zip for pst6.7 from motoclub.com it gives me this http://www.misitioenlared.com/error.php , what in the butt juice is this.

can i get a spanish translater??

Posted by: linuXshock

use google.com to translate it, works perfect for me

Posted by: linuXshock

you can also use this website to get the patch.zip,
motclub was down for a day and i couldn't get it so i searched and i found this...
http://www.matrax.net/gsm_sec2/
i guess you'll have to translate that one too .. its in Polish

I've flexed my v525! Everything worked out just fine!
I don't mind GPRS under the provider...
Only thing that i regret is that with this flex (GI9V600000AA0E9 from www.v600.howardforums.com) I don't have status report for sms any more. Any idea how to fix this? Maby that engineering???
I noticed a bug too. When I try to record voice memo it goes well, i hold the voice key and so on... But when i try to record voice name for phonebook entery it says press voice key and say a name, but it doesn't react on voice key!!! I tried pressing or holding every ×××× key on the phone with no luck... Is that only with my phone or?
Is there any other stabile flex that has status report and/or fixes this bug?
Good stuff: I got video support, 6.5MB instead of 5 with voda flex, no vodafone softkey, no vodafone web sessions and other voda-stuff.

I just tried sending an SMS and afterwards I just go into the Outbox, highlight the message, press the Menu button and in there is an option for Message status.

I also tried the voice key and that worked fine for me as well. No problems reacting to the voice key.

Have you tried performing a Master Clear and Master Reset after flexing??

Posted by: ihaladin

In the message status it says "sent" but not "recived"...
Haven't tried master clear/reset... I don't use that option anyway.

I have had no trouble recording a voice name for a phonebook entry, but I used to be able to voice dial with the flip closed. Since flashing and flexing, it's been no joy on the flip-closed voice dial for me. That is the only issue I've had so far.

Posted by: BigDaddy5

Figured out my drivers problem last night, I had the prolific USB-Seriel cable, not a straight USB cable. I can't believe I forgot that, man it's been a while since I've used this cable...

I was never able to do voice dialing with the flip closed. I remember even being referred to the manual of the V300 by someone (can't remember if it was a Motorola rep or Rogers rep) where it shows on page 1 and 2 the different features that the phone offers. According to the person I spoke to, the "Voice" key is only shown on page 1 where the picture of the flip is open. On page 2 (where the picture of the flip is closed) there is no mention that the "Voice" key is available...so now that I know you were able to use it before the flex, I guess the rep was wrong...

I have a V300 and I used the steps to flash and flex my phone. I succesfully flashed it. However it wont recognize my phone now(unknown device) tochange the flex. Was I suppose to flex before flashing? if so, how do I reverse the flash to original?

You should have only flexed your V300...a lot of the new batches of V300's have different cameras and flashing your phone may result in you not being able to use the camera as the current firmware does not support the newer cameras...

Check the threads...there's quite a bit of talk about it...hopefully, this isn't the case with your phone...

Posted by: linuXshock

yea ive read alot about those problems even with some v400s, thats why i only flexed it to v600 and it works perfectly.
I heard rumours..but im pretty sure that its not true, that v600 supports video recording. Is that true? I even saw that in a review somewhere and i thought that was odd.

edit: by the way MPT recognized my phone as v600 after the flex

My wife's V300 (which I haven't, uh, tinkered with) does flip-closed voice dialling. Mine did it exactly one time after I flexed over the new firmware. I've kinda given up on it, but think about this - the big advantage (at least the one I've seen hyped) of the V600's bluetooth capability is voice dialling from the headset. Push a button on the headset, say the name and make your call. No need to even look a your phone. It's only logical that the same features would be available (albeit in a different hardware configuration) on the same family of phones...

Posted by: 7-endless

After my post last night, I decided to try voice dialing with my Jabra headset and the flip closed - and it worked. I just had to go into the Settings -> Headset and set "Voice Dial" to "On". Then with my flip closed I just pressed the voice button and spoke into my headset and it dialed out. Just too bad that I don't have a Send/Answer button on my jabra...now I'll have to get one!

Oh, I also tried voice dialing with the flip closed on my T720 and it didn't work on that phone either. In any case, I'm not too upset about it as even if I voice dialed with the flip closed I would either need a headset or open the flip to talk anyway...

BTW, which firmware and flex is on your wife's V300?

I have tried futzing with that setting to get my voice dial back, but it's just a stubborn phone, I guess. I'm glad you were able to get it working. I bought a BodyGlove headset with a send/end button, and that also doesn't work - even on my wife's phone. I'm curious as to whether there's a difference in the hardware between Jabra and BodyGlove.

[edit] Duh - of course there's a difference in the hardware between those manufacturers. I am curious as to the nature of the difference.[/edit]

Firmware: Triplets_G_0B.08.A5R
Flex: GS9V300TMB02NA0DB

Posted by: 7-endless

Think it's possible that it may be related to the 1DR_A firmware?? I still have the original firmware on the phone which is .9FR

Posted by: wu-wei

Yeah, I've considered that, too. But I've talked with jtopping who has also flashed, then flexed and he has flip-closed voice dialling. I had originally only flashed and was using the combo flex that gets installed, but when I heard from him that applying the flex over top allowed voice dial, I dove in and re-flexed. I'm pretty close to giving up on getting that feature back, but it has become the One Thing that I can't get fixed, so it irks me.

Posted by: 7-endless

Man, that's really weird...it would probably irk me too!

Have you tried applying a different flex and then reapplying the GI9V600000AA0E9 again?

When I took my V300 in to get flashed and flexed, I remember that the first time it didn't seem to go through properly and they had to reflex it again...maybe something similar is happening with your phone??

Posted by: wu-wei

Ah, a good idea.....

Maybe I'll give that a shot later this week.

haha ty ... also, I would recommend the FW from the http://www.v600.howardforums.com website. When you do this, it will flash AND flex your phone, so make sure you FLEX your phone again after you use this firmware file with GI9V600000AA0E9! gl peeps

Posted by: 7-endless

Actually for those who have the newer V300's and V400's you may just want to flex the phone only. I believe the firmware on that site does not have the software to support the newer or different cameras that the newer phones come with...

I am not able to flash my v600. When I try, it says "FLASH failed! Cannot access Motorola Flash interface". It recognizes the phone (I can see it in the list at the bottom). I am using PST 6.7 with the patched files. Anyone have any ideas?

Appreciate the help!

No I haven't. I would like to get the later firmware first. Any ideas?

I have a new v300 with the FR firmware. Can I FLEX (not flash) w/o probs?? Anyone know or have tried it?

Posted by: devis

Flexing isnt going to cause any damage... so go ahead and do it.

Posted by: originalgoast

I have cingular as my provider. Does anyone know how I could get my internet on my phone working again.

Posted by: devis

Call cingular and ask them to send you the settings over the phone or search the cingular forum. There's plenty of info there, and if you need help with deciding what's what, post here what u got from the cingular forum and someone will tell u what to do.

go to Cingular's section of HowardForums, they have lists of the settings for GRPS and CSD

Another bump for n00bs...

Mods, can we sticky this one too??

I think we need to also modify it somewhat to reflect "How to flash with MSS" as well though for the new .1FR_A firmware that is on www.v525.com

I want to flex to V600, but I must admit, i'm kinda frightened that I may damage the phone. I'm excited to see all the new additions but I don't want to lose or corrupt what I have. Will the flex to V600 remove the Cingular branding? or erase my ringtones, contacts and/or pictures? I realize that the answers to these questions are probably right here in this thread but I'd rather hear it from all you experts on here. I trust you guys wont let me down. I may have very few posts but i'm no Noob.

All help is greatly appreciated

yes it will undbrand it. I belive if you do Master Reset at the end of the flex (thats what i did-its an option that you can check while flexing) it will get rid of your contacts stored on the phone, ringtones,pictures..etc
Now im not sure if just flexing it without doing a master reset will have the same results.

Anyhow.. just backup everything using Mobile Phone Tools before you flex

::Process::

Thanks!

Great Post! I have all the software and the cable, but the drivers don;t seem to be recognized when i point to them. Is there a trick here that I am missing. Seemed pretty straight forward...

Alright.
How long should flashing take you actually ( a couple or minutes or so?)? And flexing?

Does it have to be an OEM cable? Or can I use this one from ebay?

OEM cables are like twenty dollars. Big difference in price. Any help on this would be great

that cable looks like it works... as long as it doesnt have a bump in the middle, its fine

i got my cable from ebay too

Would love to flash/flex my new V600. But out of curiosity. Is there any chance I can permenantly damage the phone? I really can't afford another 300.00+ phone. I mean, the way the instrutcions were written here, it seems easy enough.

Posted by: scottkim23

hey i just flexed my phone with these instructions... worked great. I did the flex because when I got voicemail i was getitng a text message showing _@. After the flex it works like the way it should. the only problem I have found so far though is that my games are gone. When I go to games and app it says "no installed MIDlet suites" anyone know what this means?

-thanx

scott

Posted by: devis

It just means you've got to reinstall your apps and games. Since there isn't anything there that's all it's going to show you. Once you install something it'll start the list all over again.

a few minutes for each ... flashing takes longer.

each time I double cleck multiflash.exe file it says "error reading file headier" then i press okay, then it starts up just fine. Anyone else gettin that?

Don't want to go ahead with the flex if there's an error on the install.

I've gotten that error some times but I didn't have any problems continuing on with the flash...

Just registered here, but i've been reading for some weeks now. Now I've got some questions..
I wonder. For installing this new firmware, is the way described in the startpost fitting, or has to be done in the "spanish way".
And second, do you have to flash al three flashes they describe on the spanish site?
And third, is the "camera-problem" really gone
(by the way, I'm talkin about V525 to V600)

The instructions in the starting post are fine as long as you are using a PST firmware. The latest .1FR firmware is available in two versions: one for PST and one for MSS.

The instructions on www.v525.com apply if you are using the MSS firmware. If u want to use the PST version, then you can use the instructions in the starting post. Just note that with the PST version, you will need to apply the GI9 flex afterwards as the flex that comes with the PST version is incomplete...

Thanks. I'm expecting mij data cable any time now. I'm following several threads on Howard, and think I'll pick the MSS way (spanish, translated by Alta vista's babel fish)
there seem to be pro's and con's for both ways. Just pick one and hope it's the right choice.

Posted by: scottkim23

hey guys...

I have the v600 and I did the flex because I was having the problem where the _@ would pop up when I had voicemail. So I used the PST and flexed it. It seemed like it fixed it but now I can't get rid of the voicemail icon. I erased all the voicemail and the icon is still on my phone and won't go away. Any idea's?

Remove the password after the voicemail number and enter the password manually each time instead. For some reason, this works.

hi guys, i have a question to ask. The flash files mentioned in the 1st post were the 3 part one. how about this 4 part one:
TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.1DR_A_LP0039_JPG_0B_TRIP_0B_04.05 R_SE6446AXXF10F8_1FF.shx.part01.rar
etc.

any reason why one shouldn't use these files instead? what are the major differences?

thanks.

Excellent Post - especially for me as I'm real new to this part of technology.

My question - Is there a "Central Posting Site" where we can find the latest and greatest Flash / Flex files. I've been to the Spanish site and it's a little daunting when you don't speak Spanish.

Thanks for the help and guidance, especially for us newbies!

awesome thread. I'm new. I read it. I did it. Worked perfectly. v400 --> v600 flex. No regrets. I can use my tmobile service just fine now ;-)

I have a few questions concerning my Cingular branded V400. I have read the thread, just want to get a few things clear. I am only interested in flexing the phone. Can I backup my current Cingular flex, so I can always revert it back the way it was when I got the phone from Cingular? Also, does anyone know if flexing voids the warranty? In the newest V600 flex, is it possible to still display the date under the provider? Currently, even when I am roaming on other towers, my phone says Cingular/Cingular Extend. After the flex, will it say the actual provider that I am roaming on? Also, what are the other main disadvantages/advantages of flexing to the V600 flex? Thanks.

Posted by: halfsjj

Does anyone know if it is possible to set a time limit on the Front LCD after Flexing and flashing with the recommended triplets. I think someone wrote earlier in the post they had a version of the phone that you could modify that. I have successfully did the flashe and flex from ATT branded phone, but can't seem to find that option.

Thanks,

Video playback is the main one. Some report better battery life, although that seems to be less of discussion nowadays. It removes branding. Faster menus. Much more... and did I say video playback?

If you have engineering menu go in there and under phone capability turn off "GP auto" or something like that... don't have this flex no more so I can't check actual spelling...

but if you do that then you will disable GPRS i think.

That won't help as GPRS will show next time you use it to connect.

having problems flashing and flexing my phone.

iam using the flash and flex file from www.v600.howardforums.com

its a duel flash and flex file so i wanst sure if you have to flex it so i download the flex from v600.howardforums.com and used the flex from there.

when i try to flash i always get

Flash Failed! Cannot access motorola flash interface[16:31:00]

people have said ttry again which i haveabout 10 times, be4 i try again i turn the phone off and back on after 5 secs.

i also tried puting the flex first but when i try that i get
device is not responding and will not be flexed

again i tried truning of an on lots of time and still not working!!!

i have everything downloaded but before i go out and buy a data cable i need to know for sure, this question may hve already been answered but i have been trawling through various forums for hours and i my head not quite working

if i flex my v300, im not going to flash it cz people have been advising against it, will it remove ALL t-mobile crap including t-zones therefore you can use gprs settings from o2 to gon on wap

im not sure if i have even read if i can and i dnt wanna b a pain cz many ppl have probs asked but i dnt wanna do this if it wont remove it all

Posted by: linkins_kinks

anyone?

Posted by: linkins_kinks

i reeeeaaaallllllly need to know

Posted by: wu-wei

Links, the problem is that your question isn't terribly clear.

Flexing will remove branding (T-mobile wallpapers, ringtones, etc.)

It will also remove the web session files used for WAP, MMS, etc.

You will be able to enter your own web session info, including GPRS info. Your phone will not be unlocked. You need an unlock code (from T-mo) to unlock your phone. That will allow you to use a different SIM card and different GPRS networks. As I understand it, a locked phone means its locked to a specific carrier's network. Inputting a different configuration simply won't work for GPRS access.

Is that what you mean?

Posted by: linkins_kinks

the phone is unlocked actually, all i needed to know was that i would remove every scrap of t-mobile crap from the phone is all

The answer to your question depends on several things, first of which is whether the flex will even work on your V300.

Assuming the flex will work, it will remove all customizations from the phone. Think of it this way. The flash is for updating the firmware, much like the bios in a computer. It interfaces the phone with the OS.

The flex is like the OS. It talks to the phone and provides the customizations, such as screen displays, button configurations, etc. Changing to a different flex will change those characteristics.

When you flex, you will flex to whatever customizations are in that flex. It might or might not contain WAP settings that are locked in. For example, if you flex to the SE...F8, you will get some Euro customized WAP settings. A generic flash is the GI... flash. Which one is best for T-mobile is up to you to experiment with.

I flashed v400 cingular to b.09.1dr and flexed with gi9v6000..aa0e9

the voicemail indicator stays on. i removed the password from my voicemail retrieval and it goes off, but only if after checking voicemail from the celllphone.

if i check and erase a vm from a landline the indicator does not go away...

anyone with cingular have a fully funcional voicemail indicator and a newer flash/flex?

It may be because you are trying to make a V400 something that it is not; namely a V600. My Cingular v600 has the same flex with the 9.1FR_A flash and it works fine.

No need to get snippy. That's what we're all doing here, making our phones use the similar hardware that's available - regardless of what the housing looks like. My V300 now has video playback, just like your V600.

AFAIK, Cingular folks tend to have various issues with VM after tweaking...

@lwang, I'd suggest you keep reading through the forum and see if someone else hasn't found an answer for you.

ever since i flexed my v400 to v600(giv600000aa0e9. my battery life sucks i used to be able to leave my phone in my car for at least 3 days before charging it. now i leave the phone in my car and the battery is dead by the that night or the next day. thought it was my battery so i tested it with a non modified v400 and battery lasts anywhere from 3 to 4 days. anyone have any ideas.

Is there a v400 flex that has a working voicemail indicator while on cingular? Other than the one the phone came with (which i've flexed over...)

Anyone have any luck? What flex versions? v400, cingular, working vmi...

Thanks

I didn't mean to be snippy, just to point out that when you use software made for specific hardware sometimes you run into problems. I'm on Cingular with a V600 and don't have the VM problem that everyone else is experiencing when trying to upgrade. My flash is 9.1FR_A and my flex is the GI... generic version.

Fair enough - right after I posted I thought, "Maybe I misread that..." Sorry, I didn't mean to jump to conclusions.

And I completely agree about potential problems - I was moaning for weeks because I couldn't do flip-closed voice dials with the 9.1DR_A firmware on my V300. I just decided to be patient and wait for the next version to fix things...

this wont work with bluetooth?

Posted by: dmiat

sorry, I am a total newbie... I am considering buying a Moto v400g with Cingular. I have two questions:

If I flash or flex it to v600, will it have the same features as v600? Same reception etc?

Second: when you flash or flex the phone, does it become unlocked? I really want to unlock the phone eventually, so I could use it later on with carriers in Europe, but Cingular told me they won't povide the code to me...

Thank you

Posted by: cowboys93

The V400 comes unlocked already..at least min did!!!

Posted by: dmiat

do all of them come unlocked? even if I buy through inphonic? (And please, anybody respond to my previous question

Posted by: vvnnyc

Hi,
I am new with all flex/flash. I need upgrate v300 only to Russian language and leave the rest as it is. I never did this before.I do need your help.

Originaly the phone has installed TRIPLETS_G_OB.08.A5R.
I have :

TRIPLETS_G_0B.08.9FR_lang002E_reflash.shx
SE6426AXXU10DC.hs
SE6474AXXU10DC.hs
triplets_g_0b_08_99r_lang0034_flash.vf3
TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.1FR_A1_LP002E

So how can I upgrade only language?
Can somebody give me step by step instruction, please?

Also I have installed MSS and PST.
By the way, if you need something from above let me know and I'll try to send it for you.

Thank a lot for any help!
P.S Can I unlock WAP and Browser by MSS 3.6a?

If it is a Cingular branded phone, it should not be locked. I've never heard of a Cingular V400 being locked. Someone please correct me if you've seen/heard different.

As for features, applying a V600 flex to a V400 will give you the same menus & options as a V600. I believe just about everything is the same except the obvious hardware differences (i.e., no bluetooth, external LEDs, etc).

It might have something to do with your screen settings, make sure the screen saver mode is on and that it does not stay lit after you close the lid. Flexed yesterday and didn't realize this, corrected it and still charging...d'oh!

Posted by: Burchoid

Also, there is a battery save mode in the initial settings that should be enabled.

Actually I leave that setting off. It really cuts down on signal quality if you turn it on.

Is that verifiable? I've not heard this before, and I tend to be a bit skeptical...

[edit]
I don't necessarily want to get into any of the MAD SEEG type discussions I've seen elsewhere - I'm just curious.

Posted by: Bengdogg

I too am curious as to what exactly battery save does. Btw i am flas & flexing my phone right now! (525-600 using TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.1DR_A_LP0039_JPG_0B_TRIP_0B_04.05 R_SE6446AXXF10F8_1FF i am in the uk so i think this was a good choice

Posted by: Bengdogg

Well the flash worked so now its time for a flex

On my T720, whenever it was enabled, the signal quality always seemed to be lower. I charge my phone every night so I don't really care about battery savings.

my v400 still has that option even after the v600 flex...

Hi,

Great HowTo!!

I read the how to and I am just wondering, if this flex/flash would also work for phone purchased in germany.

I have problem to find the software which uploads the triplets onto my cell phone.
What I want to do is, to get rid of the vodafone "branding" on my mobile. Do I have to flash it or flex it?

Thanks

Schlaecht

Posted by: linuXshock

flex it, safer that way.
************ has all the tools you'll need.
but why would you want to flex/flash it since you already have v600?

Posted by: schlaecht

Hi Linuxshock,

as far as I (=newbie+ female) understood I can get rid of the vodafone features and settings which are stored in my cell phone.
e.g. the right smartkey on the cell phone is blocked with a bloddy "Vodafone live" feature which connects me via GPRS or wap to the wap-site of vodafone. I rather use this smartkey with another setting.

That's the reason why I want to flex/flash it.

Greetings

Schlaecht.

Posted by: beeker

Prolly doesn't help, but I've flashed and flex my v600 here in Australia without any problems (including British English language pack) All works fine here and should be the same there too.

Weird, anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for your feedback linux...

Posted by: marsha1979

I have a German Vodafone branded V600 and I live in the Netherlands, so I use language pack 039 (dutch selected ofcourse).

Since I want to get rid of the ugly (!) branded menu structure (some submenu's have red bullits instead of nice icons), I want to update the flex and NOT the firmware.

Do I have to redownload and place the language pack 039 back after the flex or will it remain on the phone when I flex it?

on my v400 .. ( v600 flexed) ..i can change the soft key function by going to settings->personalize-> home screen
and there i can change the functions of buttons.

Since you are in germany If you flex your phone with the v600 flex that i used.. im not sure if you gonna get the iTAP for German language.

I've had v525 Vodafone branded, so I wanted to get rid of the same things as you do. Then I just flexed it with GI... So i got rid of the softkey but Icons were still vodafone and i still had this red dots beside submenues!
This thing has changed after flashing, not flexing!
Now i have fully unbranded v600 (09.1DR_A fullflash)

the one from ************, I will reflex with the one from cjb next week and see if that helps. hmmm...maybe that will also fix the problem with not being able to use the speaker phone the way I wanted too (not as easy to activiate it with the new flex). Thanks for the suggestion!

copy the patch to the directory where you installed PST (where all the .exe files are for PST) then start the patch..end click patch untill all of the files have been successfully patched. Thats it.

Hi Ihaladin,

thanks. I am wonding where you get the fullflash? And besides, is there possibility to make a backup of my current flash version so I case I do something wrong I can overwrite it again with my old flash version?
So what do I need to do with my vodafone branded V600?

For best results, which one would you do first? Flex or Flash?

I want to update both to the latest but I am not too sure if I should flex then flash or flash then flex.
