GX-30 or GX-32??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: lawschi

Hi,

I am wondering which model of the GX-3x series looks the best? Without the funtionality concern, I know that the interface and area around the display is slightly different between GX-30 and GX-32. The reason I ask that is because I have friends work for both Vodafone(UK) and Smartone(HK) and I don't know which one I should get?? I only feel the vodafone logo under the external display is kinda ugly.... thanks

Posted by: Blazers4ever

Personally, I will be going with the Smartone version. I am tired of the black/red/white menus on my Voda branded GX20.

Posted by: ducvader

Smartone all the way baby!

It'll run Java alright, but GX32 supports different multimedia classes from GX30 (which are Vodafone proprietary).. Thus sound and graphic is handled entirely different on the two handsets..

sucks quite a bit.. not to exaggerate..

People who can't afford to pay the full price or don't want to. So then they sign a contract with O2 or whatever service providers have the phone available

Posted by: lawschi

Thanks for you guys opinions, my friend already got one GX-32 for me , I think he reserved for couple more. Then I can keep one and sell the rest

wow be sure to post a review up Btw around how much you getting each one for? Just curious if it's anything under $750 USD?

Posted by: 88DSL

I'm also wondering how much does it cost from HK? I've been offered a GX32 for $1000, but the Smartone site says it costs about $800CDN (I converted their HK price)...so I'm wondering would it be smarter to get someone to buy it from HK or buy it here. Thanks.

$800 plus shipping and then a huge chance of customs which could add up to well over $1000 =/ I suggest taking the $1000 here or wait a while if you're in no rush

Is the Smartone site's price accurate? My sister's best friend's parents come and go from HK every 3 months...so I was thinking of getting them to bring it back and then hopefully avoid customs? Heh, hopefully the price will drop significantly when they go back/come back.

So the GX30 has bluetooth, but the 32 doesnt? Why the hell would they do that?!

Man that makes the 30 one kick-××× phone - MP camera, flash, mp3, BT, SD memory, 262K Silcon...........W O W............ But exactly how big is this beast?

Posted by: lawschi

I gave $670 to my friend to get it. Since the headset itself cost around $620 and $30 for the shipping. Usually smartone will give discount to the employee but not for GX-32 though...It's lucky that my friend be able to get it on the first day.

I only asked my friend to test for dead pixel on the LCD so I don't think I will have any review on during this week. But my friend said the display is just perfect even though he is using GX-22.

Hope I can get it by Sat.

Posted by: lawschi

For those who are interested, I have already posted my extras on ebay no reserve price. So you guys can also enjoy this great phone at "not so high" price instead of $925 on some cell phone web site.

It will drop, but maybe not significantly. Probably around $100 CAD.

The GX32 has bluetooth?

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Yes, it should. I doubt they'd make the same phone without bluetooth and call it a different model number like how stupid moto was with the v400 and v500

It does, just check the Smartone website.

go with the smartone

Posted by: MITHRIL

Yea, I plan to buy the GX-32 from Smartone in May....I don't want to have any hassle, like buying a knock off one. Hopefully the price will drop a bit by May

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Well, prices of all phones will drop eventually. Even after you purchase your own GX32, in another month it'll drop by like another 20-50 bucks. Might not be much but with continuous drops, the phone could be affordable probably after a while.

Posted by: Blazers4ever

As soon as it hits the 500-550 (USD) range, I'm all over it.

I would have a hard time explaining to my wife why I spent $600+ on a mobile phone......she doesn't even understand why I would spend $400+.

Oh well, that's the same for me with my parents hehe. At least she probably doesn't make such a big case out of it like my dad

lol same with my dad...his theory of a good mobile phone is that it rings and dials

I'm just planning to get my aunt in HK to cover it up for me with my parents...gotta love relatives hehehe

Anyone who is waiting for the GX32 to drop in price you better forget it. Sharp GX phones are notorious at holding their price. The GX22 has stayed almost the same price thoughout its life at smartone, and the GX32 will do the same. Sorry guys.

Very true, Smartone only dropped the price by $400 HKD since its release (even when the GX32 is out) if you don't purchase is with a plan.

The GX22 was around $900-1000 CAD at one point. Now brand new ones are around $600 more or less. GX32 might be the same. And I'm not talking about buying from Smartone itself, I mean buying it from stores that sell some "water products" or whatever because there are so many in HK you can really never have the "original" product.

Somehow i don't think the GX32 is available as a water product. At least not this soon. I don't remember seeing a GX22 for $600 or less and even it it is it took several months for the price to come to that level. Since I don't keep any phone longer than 2 months I really wouldn't care.

Posted by: New Beetle

He is talking about the GX22s (the unbranded one). This was only released at a time when the model was coming to the end of its useful life as a top of the line model (IE: they knew they had the GX30/31/32 ready and the supporting networks Vodafone/Fareastone/Smatone) were ready for the new sharp phone.

So I guess if you want to wait until the GX30/31/32 is about to be replaced to get a lower price then by all means wait. But for me I would rather have a current phone than one that is about to be replaced by something new and superior.

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

There will always be a higher model or one that is about to be released. Can never keep up with technology these days =/ Oh well, I'm satisfied with my Inno 90 right now because of all the features. They might not all be top notch like 1mp camera but it's still got a camera for me to play with.

Agreed! It's impossible to get the most up-to-date models these days. Right now I'm thinking of just downgrading to getting the GX-22....the other GX-32 thread was talking about how there are bluetooth restrictions and other features that doesn't seem to be well developed.

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

It's actually quite funny how about a year ago when I was first interested in cell phones, I thought a friend's camera phone was really really nice and thought it could match up to a digital camera and had all these cool features. Now that I've tried a lot of nice phones, I find it stupid how i thought phones were really advanced back then since most phones don't even have a megapixel camera or a lot of features like built in TV or some other crap like that.

Posted by: MITHRIL

Yea I know eh? hehe maybe someone should just start a thread saying "What happened to the good old cellphones that are just cellphones?" All these features on phones these days are quite....overkill. Color screens are alright though. My dream phone, nice color screen, quad band and well/strong built.

Posted by: Blazers4ever

Perhaps the price of the GX32 might come down when this phone comes out?

http://www.gsmarena.com/index.php3?...om/phone645.php

EDIT: why the heck did it go to the X70?!? This is a link for the Sharp V801SH................

Posted by: tequilaworm

the panasonic x70?.....that phone doesnt even compare to the moto v600....

it is not even close to the same category as the gx30/32

LOL, somebody put the wrong link in I assume

You are fighting a losing battle if you expect the GX32 to come down in price by any real ammount.

What a load of bollox, of course they are not overkill. These features are what you call "product improvement". No longer do we have to settle for a boring old phone that can call and text. The more features the better. If you want a simple phone, you can still buy one.

i'm all for integration, without it, there would be no cd/radio in a car, etc etc..

makes everyone better off without you use it or not

That's like saying a car only needs the steering wheel and a motor. Who needs the air conditioning, heating, a radio, cd player, etc.

haha we all have different uses and needs for a mobile

The V801SH is for the Japanese market only. Its release will have no bearing on the price/demand for the GX32.

Hi guys,

I just got my GX32 yestersay, it was just amazing !!! It feels way more solid than my old GX22 The screen was just perfect and the camera is wow wow wow. Anyway, I am still charging it. By far I know it has 7 different colors incoming call indicate light, it support SD at least up to 256mb (the one I am using). The mp3 player is not bad at all. I still haven't a chance to test on other features, once I have time I will post a more detail review and pics taken by it.
