T630 faceplate 4 T610

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dimushor

is it possible to put T630 faceplate to a T610?

Posted by: MoeSzyslak

for you question, no.

the only chance is you get a hold of t630 full housing including keypad and keyboard, and the on/off button etc. But then you will need to take your t610 apart completely.

Posted by: dimushor

thanx

Posted by: ymyl

that's mean I can put the T610 T616 in the Full housing of T630 (including, cover, back, keypad, switch, etc...)?

so, is that a YES?

Posted by: dimushor

I think that was a yes

Posted by: TheoSqua

I read a thread either on this forum or another that someone tried this, but the knobs for the buttons dont match up with the buttons on the t610 and so, although it fits perfectly, the buttons become useless....

Posted by: skagen

Basicaly the idea was that it would work but becuase of the button disparity, you'd need an entire T630 housing including the internal keyboard part.

At that point the cost of such a thing (if you can find it) might be just about same as selliing your T610 and getting a new T630 (which has a better screen anyway).

So not useful unless you get your hands on a T630 that got fried or something like that....

might be cheaper than you think.. you can buy all this in a kit on ebay for $40. original equipment. I am going to try it out, so i'll let you know.....

Posted by: TheoSqua

yeah once I get the $40 im going to get it as well

Posted by: chowxmien

Let me know how it works out. I'm looking to put a T630 housing on my T610 also.

Posted by: TheoSqua

I don't have the t630 housing yet, but I took my t610 apart and the LCD and keyboard come off really easily, so it wouldnt take much effort at all (about $100) to change it into a t630 (upgraded housing and screen) Youll need a terminator dongle if you want the screen upgraded and all I needed to take the phone apart was a flathead screwdriver (filed down slightly on one side so that it will fit the t6 screws)

looks totally possible to me...the phone cost me 160....add another 100 for upgrades...260 is a lot cheaper than what the t630 is selling for right now

Posted by: Vincent9V

after swapping a T630 housing, will the fitment of all the buttons and position be perfect and all the buttons/keypad are fully functional?

well my main concern right now is if the power button, + - button, picture button, internet button, camera position, keyboard and keypad of the T630 are in the exact same position as in the T616.

Do you need to swap in the T616 mainboard/LCD into the T630 inner housing or can you just use your T616 inner housing and just change with the T630 keypad/keyboard and the T630 exterior shell?

Posted by: TheoSqua

the inner housing comes off really easy so I dont see why you would want to use the t610 inner housing when your getting the t630s either way, Im almost 100% sure the upper buttons are in the same location, the only difference is the keyboard which you can purchase off ebay

Posted by: Vincent9V

1) Is the T616 inner housing and the T630 inner housing the exact same? same shape and the T616 electronic board/LCD fits into the T630 inner housing perfectly?

2) For the T630 keyboard, is it just plug and play/straight swap into the T616?
Do you need to change firmware or anything if you change to that keyboard?

Posted by: TheoSqua

1.) im pretty sure, yes

2.) dunno...i'll find out when I try I know the LCD screen needs new firmware

Posted by: mrwoll

When someone has achieved a complete change from a t610/t616 to a t630 (firmware, faceplate etc) they should definately post a guide with pictures on how to change it. I am sure alot of people are interested. I see someone posted something on removing the covers on a t610 which seemed a good guide.

What about the tft screen?

Posted by: TheoSqua

it costs another $55 dollars

Posted by: huong_chi

Do i need a new TFT screen in order to have it in the new housing? I'm really surprised more ppl than me want to do this!
Plus: Do i need new firmware if the screen is not replaced? I'm not too keen on the firmware stuff.

Posted by: SBCingular

from what i've read to you don't need the t630 screen to place the housing... it's the same screen size wise, just better quality TFT.....

Posted by: huong_chi

So in that case i don't need new firmware if i use my T616 screen? Although a better TFT screen would be niiiiice.

yup

but do u have to upgrade firmware if u change the keyboard and keypad?

Posted by: rickpaul

Confirmed

You can put a T610 in a T630 housing. You will need the t630 housing, as well as the t630 keypad and t630 keyboard.

I now have a T610 with T610 LCD and T610 firmware in a T630 shell.

The LCD swap will need a T630 firmware upgrade, but if you dont feel like hacking your phone, and just want a new housing, it is possible.

The white housings are listed at http://www.globalmob.com/cart/custo...p?productid=217 (a hofo advertiser). The black housings wont be available for a few more weeks.

Posted by: mrwoll

Rick, So i can get all the things i need to convert the housing of a t610 to a t630 from GlobalMob? Do i just need the SE T630 Keypad - Liquid Silver (White) and Sony Ericsson T630 Housing - Liquid Silver (white)?

Posted by: rickpaul

You can get everything needed at our shop.

If you wish to put a T630 housing on a T610, you will need the housing with keypad and the keyboard PCB.

If you wish to install the LCD, then you will need the LCD and a T630 firmware installed.

If you wish to completely convert your phone, you will need the housing with keypad, Keyboard PCB, LCD and a T630 firmware upgrade.

Just placed my order for the housing and keyboard pcb. Wish you had Torx T6 screwdrivers on your site, but I'll jsut grab one from the local store. Thanks and nice site. I may have to make a visit the next time I'm in Vancouver.

Posted by: TheoSqua

If you've done this successfully, could you please post some pics?

Posted by: SBCingular

here's the conversion....

T616 to T630 conversion

Posted by: Filipe

Wow, that's so cool. Now I'm deliberating whether to do that or save my money for a K700..........

Posted by: SBCingular

yeah, now i want to upgrade to the T630 TFT LCD, but i don't have a way to update the firmware myself....

Posted by: TheoSqua

Read in the description that you have to ask him to include the keyboard pcb which is an additional $11. These are www.cnn.cn 's auctions.

Black Housing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...3094372020&rd=1

White Housing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...3094058024&rd=1

sheesh your kidding really?

what did i order then and was told out of stock?

one keyboard pcb. the housing is in stock on cnn but no point in asking the guy to hold on to it waiting for the pcb to arrive in 1.5 weeks...

keypad contacts = keyboard pcb

UK english to US english, conversion of speech.

Or do you want to keep picking on my UK English grammar, Chowxmien?

why you linking to cnn's auction when I've already ordered and now cancelling?

I dont need to order twice for the same thing, plus the pcb which i ordered which is not in stock.

this just seems like sly adverts for cnn, so I'm going to order from www.globalmob.com because at least they are hofo advertisers unlike your vague misunderstandings of my original post.

Posted by: chowxmien

I did not intend to piss you off however your original post did not say that you attempted to order from them and them telling you there was a 1.5 week waiting period. You are assuming that I can read your mind now is that it? Well news flash, I can't do that. So flame me for that? Go right ahead. I meant no harm in posting some info in which I thought would be useful, but since it wasn't to you, you take offense and call me an idiot.

Posted by: rickpaul

We now have the PCB keyboard in stock . More housings should arrive in 8 days.

I would stay away from every ebay vendor from china that are selling T630 housing kits. Upon an ebay search, I noticed something. Every one of those vendors has been known to sell fake parts as OEM. Some may be selling real parts, but you may want to put their history and practices into consideration.

Here are some fake T630 detection housing hints:
1) The battery cover comes with the mirror, directly from SE, but on many of those housings, it comes separated.
2) If they sell the front cover in two separate pieces be wary, then it didnt come from SE.
3) One vendor sells the antenna cover without the logo.
4) The frame comes with a dark silver painted side. The OEM frames ones have freckles of paint that came in from the side button holes, typically. I dont think the knockoffs have these.
