Treo 600 GSM @ USD$600 - Good Price?

I went to a local Chinese phone dealer and was quoted a Treo 600 GSM at USD$600 cash. Is that a good price? Should I go for it?

Are you an existing customer with T-Mobile, Cingular or AT&T? If so, then the $600 would be an ok price since Handspring is charging $$699 for upgrade customers on their website.

If you're planning on being a new GSM customer, you can order it from Handspring directly for $499, or less depending on carrier chosen.

I am an existing customer of T-Mobile.

Checking my notes, I found out that during the same inquiry, the dealer is charging approximately $120 extra (over some prices I found on eBay) for Nokia 6600 which I also asked about. Therefore, this $600 can very well be $480 - that is if I can find it somewhere...

600$ is on the higher side for the Treo 600. I got mine for 400$+shipping from the T-Mobile Business Rep. I suggest that you fill out the Business request form on T-Mobile's website..and someone will definetly contact you the same day. Tell them that you want to activate a data line for 20$/month (unlimited internet plan), and that ur gonna need the Treo 600. They'll have it shipped to u directly from their warehouse in Maryland. Let me know if you need any help, I can refer u to my local rep (in Western Massachussetts).

I would definately like to get it from T-Mobile especially if I can get if for cheaper.
My question is, while you can tell the rep that you will activate the $20 data plan - do you REALLY have to activate that? Would the rep hold you against that?
Also, I read in this forum that some reps are refusing to honor the order or simple not to accept the order.
Any idea?

The rep will add it to your a/c...and they'll make you sign the paperwork authorizing the "activation" of a data line to your existing voice a/c. I've done it a few times, when I bought the Nokia 3650 and before that for the Treo 270. T-Mobile reps will definetly honor it.

I am looking for an UNLOCKED Treo 600 GSM; I am in Houston, TX. Does anyone know where to get one of these for under $600?

Web and phone references are acceptable.

Thanks in advance.

You might be able to get a T-Mobile or Cingular branded unlocked one for approx that price, although there are marginal differences between the OEM unlocked ones and the T-Mobile one. There are no T-Mo brandings on a T-Mo Treo. An OEM unlocked one runs for around 700$.

But I don't need and don't want to pay the $20 extra per month! If that's the case, then we are talking about $20 x 12 = $240. I might as well go for that $600 one I was quoted.
I guess I confused you - I need the Treo as my PDA (for contact and schedule, etc) but don't need to access the internet.

You don't need to have it beyond the first...ummm..2 days. The beauty of adding a data line to ur plan is..that it can be dropped down to a regular WAP a/c or just nothing at all..

So let me make sure I understand this....... I am an existing T-Mo customer since November. If I call up (or request a call from) the business services department, they'll sell me a Treo for $399 as long as I activate a $20/month data plan? Sounds too good to be true......... Especially if the data plan is not a 12-month contract. Something doesn't seem right...

OK- I did as you suggested and a T-Mo Business Rep got in touch with me today..... Thankfully I work for a large government agency (a School Board), but what would someone do if they didn't??

Anyway - they can send me a Treo for $499 if I activate a $20/month data plan.

Now I just want to clarify -

(1) the data plan is activated on my current number (same SIM), right?

(2) I have to ACTIVATE it, but I don't have to KEEP it for a year, right? I can't see why I wouldn't want to -- can you really use all the functionality of the Treo without it? -- but I just don't want to be on the hook for $20/month if I don't end up enjoying all the features......

Thanks in advance!! I hope it works out -- this thing looks so COOL!

Scott,
Sent you a PM regarding this. You're right..if sometime down the road you decide that the 20$ rate plan isnt your cup of tea, then it can be lowered to any other internet/WAP rate plan.

Enjoy the Treo 600, and dont forget to perform the f/w upgrade to 3.04 once you have it. The good thing abt T-Mo Treos is that the firmware is the international generic one (INT)..unlike Cingular (CNG) and AT&T (AWS) ones that are heavily customized. Other than being locked to T-Mo, they have no carrier brandings at all.

Decided on a Sony Ericsson P900 instead... Thanks anyway guys!

After seeing mine, the guy I work with (who originally wanted the Treo) decided to get a P900 from a retailer here in Houston.
