That said here is how to do it...

First things first > Download these utilities.

Sony Sound Forge 7.0
Sound Forge 7.0 Download

Yamaha .WAV to SMAF Converter
Yamaha SMAF Converter Download

1. Select a audio file you want to make into a ringtone.

2. Find a section that makes for a good loop and is NO MORE than 10 seconds. (10.15 seems to be the total maximum).

3. Cut the sound out around it, leaving that 10 second clip.

4. Click save as, then under that dialog box click custom.

5. In this boxes below, change the items to:
Format - PCM uncompressed
Sample Rate (Hz) - 8.000
Bit Depth - 16
Channels - Mono
Then click ok, then save the file.

6. Drag your clip to Yamaha WAV to SMAF Converter, name the file then click ok, MAKE SURE IT IS NO MORE THAN 40.00KB.

7. Transfer the file to your phone via EasyGPRS, Tagtag.com or any other service you use but I recommend these two.

8. If all went well you should have a new custom ringer, enjoi!

On a more technical note, if you see the sound file is clipping (if you don't know what this is don't ask) turn the frequency down 1.5Db.

I hope this has helped everybody, and taught a few noobs make their own ringers.

Moderators this has to be made a sticky, if you look into some of the ringtone forums you'll see so many questions on how to make ringtones along with people trying to request ringers every 4 seconds. I used to be a ringtone dynamo, that was when I just worked on my E715. Now I have so many phones to work on I could fill a stadium. I no longer have the time or patience to make 6 ringtones a day. So with this thread I hoped other people could make their own tones and not me or raab dispensing ringers all the time. This little tutorial marks the COMMON problems people keep making. So please, I (along with probably raab) beg of you to make this a sticky.

First ur tutorial is very useful.

I manage to add vib & led on a wav i made. But there's a problem. The lenght of the wav is 4 second and MA-3 doesnt play it till the end. It's cut at 3s.
Is this problem come from the empty.mid??

Yor obviously doing something wrong. redo the ringtone and follow the directions to a t, and they will come out at 10 seconds instead of 4.

no i have the same problem,we have made the ringtone fine,they are so easy to make, however when we add vibration it cuts the tone down and does not play it all, any idea??????

You need to stretch the wav when it's in the piano roll bar. It automatically shortens it but if you go to the end of the wav you should get an arrow with 2 ends, use this to pull it out and then keep trying it until it sounds the way you want it too.

Not unless you use another midi file which has other channels to attatch to as a base, don't think you'll get it to go with the music unless you create a special pulse midi for each ringtone.

When I follow this process, I end up with a 540k SMAF... Any way to reduce it, or am I just starting with something too "detailed"??

i believe you need to save it as a wav and then use one of the yamaha tools to convert it to a mmf

i dont know if this has been discussed before but is there a way to change the ringing so that it vibrates with the song and not 3 times before? i liked that on my nokia but with these samsungs that doesnt work so i hardly ever get to even hear my ringtones because i always end up picking up the phone before the ringtone starts.

If you program the Vibe into the ringtone as in PSM Player, you will need to set the alert to Melody only and not to Vibra+Melody. If you set it to Vibra+Melody, it will default to ring then vibrate or vibrate then ring.

can i take any song and do this?(soundforge and convert to mmf) like if i wanted to take an mp3,get tha chorus(ex. Sippin on Syrup) convert it to mmf and send it to my samsung 670 will it work? or is tha 670 not capable of playin songs with voices or w/e...

**also does tha 670 have a voice recorder,and then u could jus save thru that and make a ringtone?

How do you complete this process? Most of my ringers have to be cranked up a bit to hear them well on my P107. Makes it clip pretty bad but I can't find that command in Sound Forge. Thanks for the help.

When i change 44100--->8000HZ in Sound Forge, it sounds like it runs very slowly and it doesnt sound right anymore. How it can sound good with 8000HZ, help please!

Take a look again. You changed the "Playback Rate" you need to change the "Sample Rate". I can´t tell you where to find that option in SoundForge, because I´m using GoldWave for editing.

Also why can they only be 10 seconds? My buddy has a Samsung with sprint that has up to like 30 seconds.

HI

I tried to make mmf with vib+led using psm 3.80e but there was no led in the final ring.
Also the vibrator starts after 5-6 seconds.I want it to start with the tune.i have the following questions:
1)How do i make the vib to start with the tone?
2)How to get the led?
3)I tried to make the volume 500% using the same software through volume option but when i downloaded it, it was same as the earlier ringtone.What do i do?

I used 1999.mmf as input;it was not having any vib or led before.
I made volume 500% and went to Creat SMAF> SMAF 40 chords(selected vib and led) and saved the output using save as..

But i got the above results-no LED ,vib starts after 5-6 sec and volume has no change.

They are only music tones not voice tones.
i have psm 3.80e,psm5.0,yamaha ATS-MA3-SMAF-140-e.

And how can i increase the volume ?

I followed the directions and i made my first ringtone. Thanxs. Only its not loud enough? How can i make it louder? I use my LG L1200 but i dont think its my phone since ive loaded some tones in the past and they sound fine. Thanx in advance.

Ok, I have GPRS, and I found a program to change Midi's to mmf's. However, when I do this, the mmf's sound like complete crap. I need a conversion program that can change formats and still keep the nice sound of the Midi.
The program im using now is called Mobile Music Polyphonic. Phone im using is the x426

Thanks for the directions on getting the MP3>WAV>MMF. It works like a charm.

The question I have is in the latest version from the Yamaha site (MA-5 Authoring Tool Version 1.3.3.14) and it doesn't have the piano roll bar nor the other tools mentioned in this thread.

Have I downloaded the correct software? If not, what is the app version and link?

To edit MP3's in iTunes... I'm using iTunes version 4.7 on the Mac.
1. Open iTunes

2. Right click on a song (or ctrl click) to bring up the menu.

3. Choose "Get Info"

4. Choose "Options" page 5.
Set a start time and stop time (check both boxes and set times)

6. Click "OK"

7. Click on Advanced->Convert Selection to MP3 [or WAV] (if this is not an option that is showing up you have to go iTunes->Preference->Import-> and change it to MP3 or WAV encoder)

8. You will now have 2 versions of that song in your library - if you look in the time column one will be only 30" or whatever time you told it to start and stop at.

Then use the Yamaha to convert to Samsung format.

yeah does anybody have a code, since its trial software you can't DL it again, it was fun not paying for rigntones.

I have a Samsung D415 which I cannot for the ×××× life of me get to work. I've tried converting from MA-5 to MA-3, I've changed the bitrate, I've reduced it to 4 seconds and 14kb. I've done everything under the ×××× sun, and every time I try and download it I get a message "NOT ALLOWED" and also "FORBIDDEN". Does anyone know how to fix this?

you can make them as long as you want...but if you want to send it through easyGPRS then you can only send 40k which is only 10 seconds. If you want to send a longer tone, then load it up to wap site and download it

i tried that and that and the file didnt work on the phone.

No matter how long of wav file i have, the mmf always ends up at like 39k. Could it be a problem when converting with that converter? Should i be using a different sound converter?

What this problem means "Unspupported MMF contents type". This comes when I have added some vib and led effects to the my tone which work perfectly except this vib and led.

Any help?

I've been converting MP3s, and I was wondering, how do I make them sound like your ringtone files where it's not distorted, but just uses the cords available in the phone? For example, I downloaded your Linkin Park - In The End.mmf ringtone, and it sounds awesome. How do I take a regular mp3 file and make it sound like that? Does it have to be in MIDI, and if it does, can I use Sound Forge to do it? Thanks!

I wanted a long ringtone, so I made a 196kb ringtone and uploaded it to a wap site online (www.davidpye.com). However, when I try to download it with my e315, it says "Forbidden." What is going on?

It has to be less than 32KB, sometimes it allows 40KB

Or, is there some way I could transfer this into a midi? I know that midi's have very small file size.

I would find it very stupid for Samsung to not support mp3's and limit sizes of ringtones to 40KB because that does not even allow for anything over 10-15 seconds in decent quality unless you have a midi.

I'm still waiting for someone to post a step-by-step on how to get vib. and LED on a voice ringtone. Many people here want to know how to do this as well, so if anyone has the knowledge, please pass it on! I downloaded PSM Player and fooled around with it for a bit, but I couldn't figure out how to make it vibrate and light up. Any help will be much appreciated.

Ok, so it works but why is the sound quality so poor? I dont get it, its really quiet and muffled. On my LG 6k and my 8k its so loud and sounds great but this just sux. What can i do? I have followed the steps and it works, but i would like the sound quality to improve.

Ok I'm having a little trouble here.... I'm trying to get a song on my g/f's samsung x427m.....

The wav is 9.8 seconds song and the mmf file is 35.7 KB

I upload it to jhonny.org/wap and when I try to download the mmf to the phone it says it can't display the page...

I've done this before with the current song and it worked fine with jhonny.org....

I registered for tagtag and it's still not letting me on (saying invalid username) but I guess that's cuz I registered only 10 minutes ago? *shrug*

Any help would be appreciated... I'm just trying to get the beginning of that "Akon - Lonely" song b/c she think's it's a funny little diddy

I followed the guide EXACTLY and tried it a few more times making the cound a lil shorter and all.. *sigh*

I just wanted to point out that this works with the SGH-E315. It sounds rather bland @ 8khz mono, so I'm going to see if I can go any higher. Too bad I can't sync in led/vibe!

hello. i already saved the 10 sec file clip from a song i like ( i saved it in wav format...that was the default), but now i am having a problem with the yamaha converter. i opened it up and went to file...open. there i go to all file types and find my file. i click ok and i get the error message failed to convert. i get the same message when i try to drag it. it is driving me nuts. please help.

samsung ringtone formats are mmf rite and they arent that big so how come when i make ringtones it goes up to onli 10 secs when i kno i can fit atleast 30secs or more of the song to my phone?!??!
