RE: GX30 Performance
Hi, I have just purchased a GX30 via Vodafone & I am a little dissapointed with the in built restrictions on the phone & wanted to find out if there was a way to resolve some of my issue or provide feedback on the product that i have identified personally and via user forums. Is there a way to increase the allowed file size for viedo files as it is currently 400k, but you have provided a SD card slot that will allow 512MB therefore protentially allowing movies to be played on the phone. Bluetooth is a service on the phone, but most of its functionality is restricted, ie. phone to pc connectivity prevented. Also, MP3's can be played on the phone, but you can not assign them a ring tones. Additionally, ways to change the interface, ie. icons, colours, etc - maybe using skins? is this possible? Finally, syncing with MS outlook or other software based personal organisers, is it possible? I would be grateful if you could answer my questions, although i feel i already know the answers & therefore i would hope you take my suggestions that seem to be the general view on the web seriously in future models. Also, if you are unable to help, do you have some form of development kit that would allow me to address these issues?
Thanks, Stuart.

I will post their reply (if any)

Thank you for your email.

As explained on our website, although the mobile phone you are enquiring about is a Sharp product, this office does not actually have any involvement with the product. Instead it is imported, distributed and fully supported by Vodafone.

For Vodafone related sales ,network and repair enquiries please contact Vodafone on 191 or 07836 191 191

However, some basic information on Sharp mobile phones may be found on Sharp Telecommunications of Europe's website: www.sharp-mobile.com.
In addition, STE provide technical / operational advice ( but not sales, network or repair advice) on 0870 240 4595 . This number is manned between 09:00 - 18:00 Hrs, Mon - Fri, excluding bank holidays.

We are sorry that we cannot provide you specific advice but we hope that the information we have provided will enable you to obtain the help you require.

I wouldn't say "blutooth restriction", it's probably more a case of the additional profiles haven't been implemented yet. This is Sharp's first phone with BT as far as I know and it looks like they went for the juiciest BT profiles, the car and headset ones. I know, I know, some of us geeks are just longing for PC to phone BT dial-up networking but the vast majority of folks never ever use that. For them, Bluetooth is just about wireless headsets, if that. Maybe we'll see some additional profiles in the next models.

Just my 2c

That's possible but it's not really the BT to pc that bothers me (use a card reader/writer) as much as the lack of phone to phone through bt.
