Which is the best flipphone that Bell carries?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: ch00ch

I'm looking for a new flip phone, that has a good amount of features, as well as a color screen. I'm just wondering if i should until Nov11 when I get my 1year upgrade rebate, or just buy one now, any suggestions?

Posted by: Phantasma

If you buy any of their phones on a 1 year contract you are only getting a $50 rebate, minus the $35 fee your talking about a $15 difference. So unless you are planning to extend your contract for an extra 2 years at least you might as well buy the phone right now at the no contract price and that way atleast you dont pay the upgrade fee. I have no idea what the best flip phone on bell is. I have a Kyocera 7135 which is a flip and I find that to be a good phone. Battery hasnt caught on fire on me or anything...

Just be warned, neither support analog. Deffinitely stay clear of the Audiovox 8600....it's a total piece of garbage.

I'd stick to the Samsungs.

If you can afford it.. the Samsung A-500.. the only complaint i tend to have with it is the battery life.. but people tell me they can't even tell I'm on a cell phone.

Posted by: chris647

The Samsung A500 is a great phone. No complaints so far.

Posted by: jigga136

ya, i really like the a500 aswell. clear sound and plenty of features. only complaints were the battery life(needs nightly charge with moderate usage) and the lack of java

Posted by: ch00ch

Well i'm on a 2 year contract right now, and in November I plan on resigning once again. Battery life is key, I use my phone a lot. (i'm 19 and i club alot so, I need it for double-headers, meaning i can leave it idle for at least a couple of days before having to recharge). Now is the LG color screen, and how much is it retail(say if i walked into bellworld and decided to pick it up)

Hey, the LG is NOT colour display, good battery life because it is digital only. Price if you walk in and buy it is $150 plus tax!
Good luck

also, the lg does not have an external lcd display

Samsung A500 for sure..........no question

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

Posted by: tarek

Hah, if you're going to go for a Samsung you really oughta go for the A600, not that ugly A500 =) A600 rules all!

Posted by: shaner

Heh.

One phone to rule them all.

I must be the only person who hates the A500.

I have never seen such terrible firmware writing before in my life.

Examples...

1. I add a name in the phone book, it deletes another, yes even after the upgrade.

if I have a phone number for 'tim' when time calls, 'john' shows up on the call display

after keeping your phone on long enough, when you do a find, it does not show you any text

don't even bother using the find feature when SMS'ing, it doesn't work

no auto retry feature on the SMS

samsung's full bars...no bars..full bars...no bars

no auto save feature if I am trying a long messge and someone calls, the only thing that gets filed is the phone number.

It is such a garbage phone I can't wait until may and I can toss it

You got a lemon. Send it back, usually after at the third repair Samsung exchange the phone.

If you're still having those problems I highly doubt you have the latest software.

wats wrong with the 8600? 8500 i can understand, but the 8600 seems to be pretty decent for me. im not exactly a huge user, but compared to any sammy i'd say they're pretty close in terms of rf.

The 8600 has too many quality issues...like the screen blanking out and the faulty antenna connector that greatly affects the reception of the phone.

The A500 is an excellent flip phone overall, but if you can wait, the soon-to-be released sanyo 8100 will be worth checking out. If you can't wait, and don't wanna spend too much money, the slider is a smart choice as well.

Oh, boo no color.

Posted by: ch00ch

You know what, i think it'll be best if i wait...the 3586i is a good phone, too bad it's kinda big. =/
I'll wait for a flip phone with an exterior LCD display, and color screen that has solid firmware. I may be waiting for awhile, hehe.

Posted by: shaner

Yeah, you may be waiting a week until the Sanyo comes our.

A500 for sure

My 8600 hunts for signals where my old samsung has three bars showing (my living room). I'm close to downgrading back to my trusty N370.

You may have an antenna problem. Plus, Samsungs are notorious for overestimating signal strength.

Posted by: DC65

I've opened the phone up to check for the antenna connector issue. Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Nothing else that I can think of now that you've voided your warranty.
