i wentto the sprint store today and the tech told me that some where on the net there is an upgrade to the sanyo 5000 software that makes it possible to download .wav and .mp3 clips to your phone. The tech told me that he would be in touch within the next 2 days to tell me what sit but i can't count on him.Has anyone heard or know where this upgrade to the software is we can all can download it?

Sounds interesting, but I don't think he was accurate in the info he gave you. An mp3 or wav file would be too large for the memory capacity on the phone. if you could download these files they would probably be 1 or 2 sec's long.

What does everyone else think?...

Any word on this? Even if it was only a few seconds of music - do we really think the 5K has the power/ability to decode MP3? Still, I would not be surprised to see an update to the firmware to allow contacts to be sync'd (and fix some bugs).

On an unrealted note - does anyone know how to turn OFF the security feature that reminds me I have to pay for WirelessWeb. I get enough of a reminder when my bill comes.

It would be possible to download low bitrate mp3 clips to the 5000, albeit, pretty brutal sounding, and still only a several seconds long.

Brutal sounding? Are you kidding? For a cell phone ringer? Even if its 64 encoded mp3 it will still sound better than the beeps the regular ringers use. Also.. there's not stereo sound on a cell phone ringer so honestly... you don't need anything better than a low bitrate mp3 if this is possible, but as someone else said, I doubt it's possible that the sanyo has the power to decode mp3, and if it did, it would mostly kill you battery faster than normal and we all know that the regular life is already crap. But anyway... low bit rate would be perfectly fine for a tiny, mono, cell phone ringer... It's not like the midi player for it has 512 instruments...
