Posted by: miffybb

it doesn't work.. I mean it just does nothing.. what's the latest firmware available right now? btw.... are there firmware upgrades available yet at service providers?

My SW version is Feb 19, 2004. 10:29 :-) B21EB18IA

I've got an older version
Dec 17, 2003
22:25:48
B21DL16SH

Kinda neat you can adjust the mic/speaker gains in here too. This engineering menu seems to really do a number on the battery, my battery level seemed a bit low, soon as i went in to play around the low batt warning sounded off a couple times, then the phone shut down.

i figured out sometime pretty amazing.
there's something that could boost up the reception a bit.

go into the service menu .. by pressing *811*811#
and there's this section called band
choose EGSM/PCS
normally at my house it only has 2 -3 signals out of 5.
but after setting it , it boosted to 3-4 most of the time.
and the clarity of the voice calls are much clearer.
try for u'rselves...
my provider is Rogers Wireless...

Ummm, will i f**k up my phone if I try changing to that? Can i change it back if it doesn't work? I dont' want to risk damaging the firmware for phone because obviously noone seems to have found files to flash the firmware or anything.

Don't you mean *888*888#?

Posted by: Kricket

when i first did it - the "gsm" was highlighted - im not sure if that means thats what it was set on - or if thats just where it starts when you enter the menu

That's where it starts off =/ Crap, we all lost our original settings unless it was at GSM

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Will switching band settings raise the cost per call or something?

Posted by: miffybb

yeah sorry.. my wrong..
it's *888*888#
heehee... if set to EGSM/PCS.
I found it to be sucking up the battery up fast too .. keekee
sollie.. just obviously I was testing out to see if there's a difference

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Do you know the original setting? Is it GSM only? I find not much difference when using different settings. It may be because I'm using Fido and get crap reception in my room though. I've only tested settings inside of my room so I'm not too sure if changing settings is effective or not =/

I get an extra bar

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Darn, lucky guy. With me, even though I don't get an extra bar, when I tested out a call, the speaker's kept fading in and out for pretty much all the different settings. GSM only, GSM/PCS, EGSM/PCS, all the same for me =/

Posted by: miffybb

braindead5400, which setting are u using currently?

Posted by: braindead5400

egsm/dcs

Posted by: miffybb

egsm/dcs... is the sound quality better with egsm/dcs?

I think so, I can't really tell since I basically have to carry my charger around with me already

its funny - as i browsed the forum and read your post - i heard a very distinctive "whaaaat!?" in the background

ah the sound of my inno 90 slowly dying...

Posted by: braindead5400

I just plugged mine in because it just turned itself off

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

wow, I don't get how the batteries run so low for you guys. How long did you charge the batteries for on the first charge? And did you guys fully discharge your phone and fully charge for like 2-4 hours each time afterwards for like first 3-5 times? Because that's what I did and my first charge was around 10 hours.

I charged both mine for about 12 each, then did the whole discharge thing 3 times

Hmm, you SHOULD have good battery life then because that's what I did except I discharged them both 5 times each and then fully charged for about 4 hours.

Posted by: braindead5400

but I DON'T!!!! At least my firmware is flawless

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Bah, at least I don't have to worry about not being able to make calls just because battery is low

Posted by: braindead5400

what good is good firmware when you can't power the phone

looks like i got the best of both worlds!

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

LOL, my firmware isn't that crappy. Only problem so far is the connecting to email thing. It'd be funny though if there's a firmware that won't allow the phone to power on :P
