My Inno-90 keeps shutting down on its own! =(

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: lpy

Here's what happened before i was struck:

I sent an sms and my inno 90 showed the "sending message" screen (with the envelope picture) for an unusually long time. After like half a minute, it told me "message sending failed" or something along those lines. Upon exiting the screen, the phone displayed "insert sim" and soon after, the phone hung. It auto shutdown after a while.

When i turned it on again, the problem continued. After a certain time (say 15 seconds), the phone will always hang and proceed to power off on its own. I can't even get past the "enter pin" screen. Can enter up to 6 digits for my pin but cannot "ok" it. Thought it was a problem with the sim so i used my dad's sim but the same problem came back to haunt me. Even tried replacing battery/charging the battery but nothing seems to work. In the end, i took out my sim card altogether and powered up my phone on SOS mode but the moment my wallpaper shows up, it hangs and shuts down once again.

Mine is an european phone with the dec 03 firmware and it has not given me any problems before this.

Can somebody please help me? pretty pretty please? i love my phone and i'm really distraught that it stopped working =(

sorry to tell you but ut sounds like your phone has some serious system problems and we probably can't help you. Your best bet is to try and contact innostream or buy a new one. Unless of course you could find a way to flash the phone, it may work but it may not stay on long enough to flash it

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Someone had a problem with phone crashing before. Did you upload any types of files at all into your phone? Because that ringtone/wallpaper/mflash file might be corrupting your phone.

Posted by: Spirals

sounds like a corrupted wallpaper, i had that problem once, it was a .vis file and halfway through playing, it would freeze up, so i had to quickly restart the phone and change the wallpaper.

However, yours might have the error at the beginning, and it can't even handle it.

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Oh yeah, he can't even get past the powering on part and all that. But can't he just go to PC Sync and try deleting the files from there?

Posted by: lpy

i don't think it's a problem with corrupted files cos the last time i uploaded stuff to my phone was days ago.
it just crashed all of a sudden.

Posted by: miffybb

that was me uploading a corrupted mp3 song onto my phone and it just auto-shutdown as well... I think just check out what you have uploaded on your phone lately and start from there to see which thing cause the auto-shutdown.
it's possible that corrupted files will autoshutdown the phone Ipy, a phone's memory is just like computer's memory when it finds errors it either stop loading that file, and instead just cause errors or something like that.. so the auto-shutdown is a symptom where there are either corrupted wallpaper/mp3 ringtones and/or anything you inputted to the phone...

Posted by: lpy

but i can't even on my phone now so how do i go about clearing my files?

Try deleting the files you uploaded. It's worth saving your Inno 90

but how? i only managed to delete my mp3 ringtones from the min or so of connection with the pc sync before it shuts down. all the rest of the wallpapers and photos taken with my phone require more time to access so cannot delete.

Can't you reconnect after it shuts down and then delete the rest of the files slowly?

as in keep powering on again after it powers off?
yes i can, but i need to hook on longer to remove the wallpapers and photos. the time my phone stays on is just not long enough to even remove a file.

Posted by: Javid

What you're lpy describing is EXACTLY what happened to me, word for word. I also have the dec 03 firmware. I tried deleting all the stuff off my phone and managed to get all of it, but still having same problems. I emailed the people at innostream more than a week ago, still waiting for somesort of reply... I highly doubt they're gonna be of any help, if they reply at all. I think flashing the phone is the only other option left but I have no idea how to go about doing that. I'm hoping that I didn't just waste my money... but after more than a week of frustration I think I'm gonna resort to using my old T68i until next month when I get paid and buy something that's more reliable.

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

So basically, the Dec 03 firmware has a very high chance of corrupting the phone if you upload stuff into it. That really sucks =/

Posted by: Javid

I dont think this problem has anything to do with the Dec 03 version or uploading anything onto your phone. My friend got one last week with a Feb 04 firmware, used all the default stuff and one day in the middle of a phone call it just turned off, never to work again, just like mine. She just got her money back, lucky her. I painted mine black and etched some designs and crap on mine so I can't get a refund. :[ Looked cool while it worked though. I highly suggest that anyone thinking of buying this phone dont until there's some sort of resolution to this problem.

yeah - i emailed those people in january before i bought the phone with firmware questions...im still waiting...

in the meantime - i emailed again (mid-february maybe) - hoping that the other one got lost in the mix or something...no luck...

i wish i had more hands so i could give innostream's cs four thumbs down

im rick james ×××××...enjoy youself!

i dont know where that came from...sorry

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

My friend also has a Feb 04 s/w version and his stopped working. He can't even turn the phone on to delete the files =/ I have the same s/w version and now I'm afraid of uploading ringtones into it or anything

agreed - i havent had any problems with my dec firmware either

Posted by: lpy

oh well guess i gotta send it back to the ebay guy in US.
thank gdness i have a one year manufacturer's warranty.

i think everyone here's using the european version right?
anyone had problems or heard others having problems with the chinese version?

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Even if you do have a warranty, where can you bring the phone to? Innostream isn't exactly a big company for GSM so there's not much you can ask from them because their CS sucks

precisely

Posted by: johhnee

i think the problems with inno 90 r from the dec firmware.. i don't think there r any problems with the feb firmware chinese version

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Well, my friend has the US version with the Feb 04 firmware and it went dead as well. Can't even turn on now.

Posted by: cellfonexpert

Mine is the newest March 04 firmware and i don't seem to find any problems with it so far...

only the first chinese versions had problems all the newer ones don't. My december firmware is flawless. A while back I heard of a november firmware that had problems and people were not having any with the december but now it seems that some do infact have problems with the december so it may be phone specific and not just the firmware dates

Posted by: Trenton_net

A bunch of us have Chinese Inno 90's with the Dec firmware. No one has had any problems. On the other hand, I know some people who purchased the English version (Dec firmware) and have had varying degrees of problems, such as random crashes, to total death of the OS on the phone.

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Hey braindead, do you have the chinese version?

Posted by: braindead5400

nope, My only languages are english french spanish and portugese

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Nevermind, that doesn't explain why your firmware is perfect then.

Posted by: Trenton_net

Maybe it just hasn't developed a problem yet. Usually you need to do some funky stuff to get it started. After that the problems start to snowball. For instance a lost connection with the cable during upload, or a corrupt file, or changing a setting to something strange. Etc.

Uh oh, the discconection of cable during upload happened to me. Well, it wasn't during an upload but after connecting and uploading a few ringtones, when I was selecting another ringtone to upload it just suddenly said phone has been successfully disconnected and then I can't seem to connect anymore. I had trouble before connecting it before too, so I don't know if I can't connect anymore or I need more effort like before to connect it

Posted by: SilvaRSX

Sounds like there are quite a few problems with the phone so far.

I'm not sure if I read incorrectly, but it's scary to hear that the phone can permanently die from just from loading files from phone to computer/vice versa.

My girlfriend is picking up the phone tomorrow. (white inno 90, chinese, not sure about the firmware, but the phone is about 3 months old). Data cable included.

Do you guys think it's risky to get the phone? Like should we just sell the phone and get a different phone to use for the mean time, and then pick up a newer inno90 when everything is worked out?

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Chinese version should be okay. Check firmware on it though and make sure it isn't from the first batch.

Posted by: SilvaRSX

i'm guessing it's probably from december since it's like 3months old...

is that the first batch??

i read earlier in this thread that the dec.chinese was good?

or are the newer ones better?

what would i have to worry about from having an older batch?\

thanks tw_1_n_star

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Well if the phone is 3 months old, it doesn't necessarily mean the firmware is 3 months old as well. To check firmware just dial in *888*888# and then check SW version.

The problem with the earliest batch for the Chinese versions have several different bugs/issues with them. Can't really remember them but the later versions should be perfectly safe. Check the firmware first and see if it's from a long time ago or more recently

Posted by: braindead5400

the first batches have november firmware

November 2003? It came out that late? I thought it came out earlier than that =/

Posted by: braindead5400

I'm basing that solely on the fact that I've never heard of anything older. When the first people on hofo got the phones, they complained about the november firmware and if I'm correct it was stated that those were the first batches and that there was a december firmware that would be better

Well if the phone he's getting is with 3 months of use. There's a very high chance it has November firmware. It may have December firmware but who knows =/

Posted by: braindead5400

its april so that places his phone in January but i don't think there is january firmware so its probably december, but its chinese anyway so who cares? Maybe my phone is secretly chinese

lol, a white-washed chinese phone? I've heard of that for people but not for phones

lol, well you said that you have the US version because it had English, Portugese, etc. But then if it's secretly a Chinese version then it'd be a white-washed chinese phone. Meh. Don't know what I'm saying. It's like if you're chinese but then you can't speak chinese like how the "secret chinese version" can't select chinese.... bah you know what I'm trying to say (hopefully)

Posted by: braindead5400

umm... I think are you saying white washed because its "supposedly" the english version (its really chinese just doesn't want to admit it). But I'm not white, so...

Posted by: SilvaRSX

gf decided not to get the phone..

too expensive for the mean time anyways...

thinkin bout goin for a e715 instead..

thanks for the help though!

Posted by: braindead5400

isn't it around the same price?

Actually E715 is about 100 bucks left.

I don't get where this forum is heading. I mean this forum is very confusing when it comes to the topic. It jumps from one to another.

Can someone explain what is going on?

Well, at first someone was complaining about crap firmware on their Inno 90. Then someone was thinking of buying one but wasn't sure if he/she should buy an E715 instead. In between is just braindead ranting on and on about nothing like he always does :P

Posted by: braindead5400

i need to stop doing that

really? I saw that e715 was around 100-200 after rebate, and i got my inno 90 for 100 before rebate.

Posted by: johhnee

I think this forum is getting no where. I mean it's supposed to talk about Inno 90 shutting down on its own because of uploading stuff on the phone.

But I don't get how it ended up to e715 and prices.

Posted by: cellfonexpert

lol...totally off topic guys...

Posted by: SilvaRSX

lol sorry people the E715 talk is all my fault....

Posted by: johhnee

I'm thinking of buying an Inno 90. Are there any problems from Inno 90s with the latest firmware?

Because at SimPro is having a promo right now.

Don't blame yourself. If you see a single post from braindead, you can automatically blame it on him

It's like playing the lottery Go take your chances and hope you get an exchange if anything is wrong with it. Even the latest March 04 firmware have a few problems with them, so... before buying it, make sure that you are able to get an exchange if anything goes wrong with it.

Okay.

when the thread goes on for 60+ posts, its bound to go off topic

Or maybe it's because the topic has already ended.

most likely, some things can only be discussed to a certain point and then there really is nothing else to add

Posted by: johhnee

Just like what we're doing right now!

Posted by: cellfonexpert

lol...let me guide u guys to the right topic...

mine is the latest March 04 firmware and i don't seem to find any problems with it yet...im very happy with my PEARL WHITE inno!!!

Posted by: tw_1_n_star

Oh yeah, I'm curious. How come they have a different firmware for like each month? It's not like Innostream actually fixes the firmware considering how pretty much the Dec 03, Feb 04 and some Mar 04 firmwares have been having problems.

Posted by: Javid

I thought my inno 90 was gone forever. But I seemed to have fixed it today. It was just sitting in my drawer for weeks. My friend got one recently even though I suggested she didn't, but she wanted the my faceplate that I cutomized. I had no use for it anymore so I switch the hers and mine. I decided to just completely pull my phone completely apart for fun and clean it. I literally took the whole thing apart. Every single piece that would come off i took off. When I put it back together, I turned it on one more time for the hell of it. To my great surprise, the phone turned on and stayed on! For more than 8 seconds. And all my stuff was still there. All my ringtones and pictures and crap. I put my old faceplate back on and it still worked. I don't know what the heck I did, but it works now. Good for me, but now I have to make a faceplate for my friend now that I'm using my Inno again. I still have no idea why the OS crashed in the first place or why it came back. Oh well, it works just fine now. :]

How do you make faceplates?

Has anyone had this problem with the Inno 99? or is this just for the Inno 90?
