I will be getting a sl55 soon and it will be used in a fairly loud environment sometimes. How loud does the speaker get during conversation? Is the phone good at blocking out background noise?

My main phone is a samsung s300, so if anyone has both, how would the 2 phones compare?

edit: one other Q... Does the phone have the capability to keep the keypad and screen constantly illuminated while plugged into the home/car charger

Hey,

I have a SL55 and a Samsung E715. I have noticed the volume on the sl55 is a lot lower than my 715 almost makes it a little hard to hear in a noisy place. You can turn on the speakerphone option but then your callers get a lot of background noise.

Just my opinion. The 715 is a much better phone, but you can't beat the look of the sl55.

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonT616/R201 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

Ok, i figured it would be low due to it's small size.

the SL56 speakerphone is horrible..its only good when you are in silent places ...if your driving or at the mall or something it is useless to me..i wish it was the same quality of nextels speakerphones

I don't agree. I had a call on my SL55 in a noisy pub the other day and I was amazed that I could here the call perfectly. I think It's not that bad.

Probably a stupid question, but have you set the volume to max?

This issue has been annoying me for the last year. I was hoping with the last firmware update siemens would fix the volume issue. used to have a nextel and speakerphone was awesome, I don't even use sl55 speakerphone cause it's so quiet.

Basically ear volume is ok, but speakerphone AND headset volumes are pretty miserable, but the mic is really good (so others enjoy my phone more than i do, haha)

Anyhow, if anyone can miraculously figure out how to make this phone louder that would be sweet.

Enjoy,
TB

P.S.-
As far as I know my hearing is in good shape and my volume is always on max...plus the ring tones can be ×××× loud, how come speakerphone is quiet?!

heh...I actually checked this out.
The phone will be fully illuminated when in use (duh) but when you switch to home menu it only stays lit for 3 secs. If you are in any other menu it dims and stays lit for a minute. And when charging it turns off after 10 seconds or so.

basically...no (as far as i know)

Don't get me wrong, I love this phone cuz it's sooo sexy...but as a phone/techaholic this phone is a little too buggy.

Enjoy,
TB

Okay, just got an used SL56...

Earphone volume on the phone is actually okay...about the same level of my previous 8890(although I still love hte 8890...:P).

Earpiece is another story. If you're using the "generic" earpiece, the volume would be horrifying...loud static and low volume...

IF you're using a Siemens OEM(I think there are 2 models; one with the answer/function button and one without), it's loud and clear.

So see if your earpiece/handfree is made by Siemens(or OEM) or just some generic one..the quality is very different. I think that Nokia and Motorola's handfrees are not too different in either OEM/Original or aftermarket. But for Siemens and Samsung models, get the OEM/original ones. The difference is very significant.

I'll check that out, my earpiece is generic.
But the speakerphone still sux....
