Sanyo VM4500 - Turning off Screen during a call?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey all,

I just picked up the VM4500 a couple of days ago, and i need a little help. The LCD screen stays on for the entire duration of a call, and tends to become somewhat hot after a while, plus I am sure it drains batt. life. Is there any way to make the LCD screen turn off after the call starts? Thanks for any help.

ACcording to my manual, if you bring up the main menu, then setting, then display, there are numerous setting for the backlight and led ,etc, etc., especially that annoying led.

On my 5500 it's surprisingly not the screen part of the phone which warms up, but the section with the buttons and battery--Since the main led dims after a few seconds anyway, this may not be a factor at all.

I checked through all of the display options, couldnt find anything to actually turn the screen off. Does anyone have a definite answer?

I know that with my 8100 the screen stays on during the entire duration of the call no matter what the sleep setting is set at. The only time the screen will sleep is when the flip is open and im not using the phone to call. Im sure it would be the same for the 4500.

I've read reviews for Sanyo phones on the internet, and it seems that the backlights on their phones dont turn off durign a call. Dunno why they would do this. Makes for horrible battery life.

There is No way to turn the screen completely off during a call. With sleep mode, it will black out while the phone is open and idle, but not during a call and while Vision or some type of application is in use.

It seems Sanyo has prepared for this because, like plane, all three of mine (5500, 8100, 5300) only warm up at the keypad and never the screen. Luckily the keypad goes out.
