Hi, (with Tmobile by the way)

I currenlty have a Samsung SGH-E715 and I love it. Samusung phones seem to be very nice. Much nicer than the Motorola T720i I had before it.

Anyway I now need a phone that has pda features for extensive business use as I am a Mortgage Loan Officer. Can anybody recommend what the best type of device would be for this? I know there is the palm os and windows os systems out there and I dont know which would be best either.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!

I was looking for the same thing and was (am) with T-mobile. I am currently in the 15-day trial period with Verizon and am strongly considering porting my number over to them.

I purchased the Samsung i600 and so far I really love this phone. The only thing it lacks is bluetooth. It's a little more expensive than T-mobile, but the internet speed puts T-mobile to shame.

With T-mobile and the $19.99 internet, I was getting around 30kbps. While this was fine to browse wap sites on the phone, when using the pocket PC, it was painfully slow.

Now on this phone with Verizon ($44.99 for unlmited internet) I get anywhere from 50k to 140k depending on how good my signal is. At home where I get 2 bars (out of 4) of signal strength, I get around 50-60kbps. However, at my office where I get a full 4 bars, I consistantly get around 130k-140kbps.

And that is their "slow" network. They are in the process of upgrading their network to a high speed of 300-500k. That speed is currently available in Washington DC and in San Diego. I'm in NY and was told by two seperate customer service reps at Verizon that NYC is the next market and should be done in 1-2 months. They plan to expand this to about a dozen cities by the end of the year.

So for me, I think it's worth the extra $25. Once the speed upgrade goes through, I think I may even cancel my home cable-modem access and just use the phone to access the internet from my desktop computer. Then I would actually save money.

You can't use the new network with existing phones, including the i600. You can only use pc cards with it. Verizon is getting phones for the new network but doesn't have them yet.

I also love my samsung i600.

Btw, there's loan analysis software out there for smartphones but I don't know anything about it.

Actually, two different verizon reps told me the i600 will work with the high speed network. They said if I was to go to Washington DC or San Diego right now it would work. One guy specifically explained to me that their high speed network is so great compared to EDGE because unlike EDGE, you don't need a new device to use the network. It will work on any phone which can use their 144k network.

Now, I don't take everything that customer service reps tell me as fact, but he didn't just mention this in passing. He went out of his way to explain this thing to me in great detail. Was he lying??

Lying, spinning or misinformed? Beats me, all I know is that they are wrong. I am IN Washington DC. I can spit and hit the White House. It doesn't work on the new network.

There's some info on this board in the Verizon forum, including news paper articles, which describe the new network and how it only works on pc cards right now.

Business usually means email - that equals BlackBerry

I went with the Samsung i600 after trying a Mot. MPx200, but taking it back due to coverage issues. My main consideration was size. Most of the non-flip phones are just too big. The Treo 600 (palm) looked nice, but the keyboard was just too small. Works OK standing still in the store, but dialing from a car or walking would be a pain. I've had no problems syncing business data, and with the high-speed internet access and ability for wireless sync, you should be delighted. The SD slot can take 1GB cards, so you should have plenty of space for spreadsheets, etc.

Business user, i take that you need email, fast/easy data entry. If price is not an issue, SE P900, Treo 600 and O2 XDA II will fit your need. So will Blackberry. The reason i suggested those is because they all have fast data entry system. Either a keyboard or touch screen keyboard. Blackberry simply for the email compatability.

There are only 2 pda operating systems: ms & palm. These will have the largest selection of available software. The handsets using series 60/70 or blackberry have very limited available software.

All cdma networks are forwards & backwards compatible. Therefore the csr`s who said that the i600 will work on ev-do were correct. However, it will only work at 1xrtt speeds.

Doh! You are right of course. While Eric5273 was speaking of getting the higher EV-DO data speed and I was saying he wouldn't, the phone will work on the newer network at the slower speed.
