I have a mitac 8390 with the SpeakerPhone..But i cannot figure out how to make the speakerphone work while the flip is closed...

Also is there another way to turn on the speakerphone while in a call besides holding down the send button because its really difficult to make this work.i hold it down and sometimes it goes to speakerphone and most times i have to hold it down various times before it works......

I don't think you can use the speakerphone with the flip closed. I just got a Samsung i600 and I've come across the same problem. When you close the flip, it hangs up any call in progress. Kind of a waste to even have a speaker phone then.

My larger concern is that it seems to also hang up any data connection when I close the flip. One of the things I want to do with this phone is to have an instant messaging program open so people can IM me when I'm out and about. I'm now wondering if this is even going to work or if it will just sign me off as soon as I close the flip. I'm going to try installing agile messenger tonight and see what happens.

Here are my observations:

The speakerphone will not work with the phone closed; the microphone is located on the "inside" part of the phone.

However, if you're using a headset, you can close the phone and it will not disconnect the call.

Also, it's been my experience that the internet connect is not lost when the phone is closed.

Yeah.....I'm guessing that is because it's a GSM phone. My Samsung is a CDMA phone. The good side of this is the fast data speed (144kbps). However, CDMA technology is different than GSM in that it treats data calls similar to voice calls. Instead of counting data in megabytes, it counts connection time. When you end a data session, the screen shows a little picture of a phone hanging up. So it does end any internet connection when you close the flip.

Makes me wonder if it's worth it. On one hand, you get the very fast data speed. On the other hand, when you use it, you will miss any incoming calls, text messages, and when you close the phone, it hangs up.
