Symbain Versus SmartPhone.

Will be used on T-Mobile if that even needs to be taken into consideration! Also, it's replacing my SE T610 (also if that makes a difference).

Short list of suspects:
- Sony Ericsson P800
- Sony Ericsson P900 (assuming I can justify the extra cost with the added features...convince me here too )
- HTC SPV (or some variant there-of)
- Motorola MPx200

What I "need" it to do:
- MP3's
- Divx Vids at a playable speed
- NEEDS expansion media. SD preferred due to my digicam using this medium and although memory stick is no biggie, the 128mb limit is what is turning me off (having to split movies that won't fit and such).
- at least NES emulation, but would be nice if it can do SNES
- was thinking that I could survive without bluetooth since IR speeds are good enough for GPRS.
- Battery power needs to be as long as possible. Roughly able to play MP3's straight for around 4 hours or play videos for 2 hours or so.

Going for the P800 probably, but what I'm afraid of aren't as much slow video playback speeds as I am worried about the 4096 color display (which is why the MPX200 excels for me here even though screen has a lower resolution.)

What can run the P800 in landscape mode (I've seen some games, video players and a browser, but it appears it wasn't meant to do this from the factory)?

Also can the processor be overclocked using a prog? I couldn't find a Series60 o/c tool unfortuantely.

I just want to hear your recommendations and your opinions guys!

It states that WM2002/2003 is the better platform for gaming and has more applications that are closer to pocketpc spec since the code for ppc are easy to port to smartphones. Overall, which platform has the better progs?

Note: HTC SPV and variants have an SDIO slot, but I did some digging and found out that since it doesn't have 'SD Now!' that it won't be compatible with Wi-fi nor BT cards. If not those, I don't see the point.
Note: Symbian has a nice version of the SSH PuTTY client whereas the SmartPhone is real new and doesn't even have secure transfer of data. PuTTY is a must...

i say a pocket pc based phone like the xda2, i-mate, or mda2

it's pretty much a pocket pc with phone capabilities -- very powerful; has bt; iirc, there are ps1 emulators for ppc; possible to use sdio wifi cards; supports 1 gig sd; etc

i was never a fan of ms smartphone

You can't overclock a P800/P900 processor to my knowledge. Based on your criteria, as Rex already pointed out, the iMate/XDA II is the best solution. I own all 3..P800/p900/iMate. The iMate hands down beats the other 2 in overall performance....no questions. Just remember not to expect tremendous battery life and get a car charger if it is going to be used as a primary phone or a business phone that you will use at least 2 hours a day.
